00:00The social media platforms attract the attention of Lebanese people away from the economic and social crises that they are experiencing.
00:11The percentage of users of the internet in Lebanon has reached more than 86% of the population,
00:18which is about 4.7 million people in the second month of January 2023.
00:24And according to the digital transformation network in Lebanon,
00:27the use of WhatsApp or Instagram has attracted 4 million followers,
00:32while the use of TikTok has seen a surge in this framework
00:36due to the ease and speed of obtaining financial income through this application.
00:41It is clear to us that among Lebanese people,
00:44for example, to take one application on WhatsApp,
00:46we have 1,850,000 Lebanese people using it.
00:51But we have Syrians and foreigners of different nationalities.
00:55The number of WhatsApp users is about 4 million.
00:58On TikTok, it is all people, young and old.
01:01We are seeing 6 million people using TikTok,
01:05almost daily,
01:07in a time span of 4 to 6 hours a day.
01:10This is very dangerous.
01:11This time is worth it for everyone.
01:14On social media, they are reducing its productivity
01:18and sending it to unsuitable places.
01:21This poses a threat to the Lebanese national fabric.
01:25Some studies show that the contribution of influencers
01:28on social media on the Lebanese economy
01:31ranges between $120 and $150 million annually
01:35as a result of the content they provide.
01:38However, the risks of using these sites remain double,
01:42especially for children,
01:44who use applications for a long time daily
01:47without the supervision of their families and the state.
01:50Today, applications vary from one to another
01:52on how we can work on them
01:54and how we can contribute to a personal income
01:56or even to the economy in general.
01:58We feel that TikTok is different today.
02:00Why?
02:01Because TikTok encourages individual income
02:03more than corporate income.
02:05That's why we saw this boom on TikTok.
02:08The danger, let's say, with TikTok
02:10is that the age of TikTok users
02:13is the largest today,
02:15ranging from 12 to 17 years old,
02:17and from 17 to 24 years old.
02:19These two groups of people make up
02:21about 75% to 80% of the users of this app.
02:25What's even more dangerous is that
02:27these people, at a very young age,
02:29are seeing that it's easy for them
02:31to invest money.
02:32TikTok allows you to invest money
02:34in the number of views on the videos
02:39regardless of what kind of video it is.
02:41From here, we can see the level of content
02:43that is being created,
02:45because they find that this allows them to invest money.
02:47In line with the issue that shook public opinion
02:50in Lebanon and abroad,
02:52in the TikTokers gang,
02:54which is gradually raping minors,
02:56the demand for TikTok applications
02:58in Lebanon is rising,
03:00and the implementation of new laws
03:02and strict punishments
03:04to protect users, especially children.
03:07Facing the risks of social media applications
03:10remains a shared responsibility
03:12between parents, educational institutions,
03:14and users, as well as local authorities,
03:17with awareness of the importance of monitoring
03:20and following content and guidance.
03:23The most important thing is to inform
03:25the security services in case any violations
03:28harm individuals or groups.
