00:00This is Scott Dowell from Autospray Systems, based in Stoke-on-Trent, and he's showing
00:07me a baby crop spraying drone.
00:10This is only one third of the size of the biggest ones, Scott, and this is the latest
00:14thing imported from China, designed for spreading rice fields.
00:18It is, yeah, spreading and spraying anything from liquid fertilizer to granular fertilizer.
00:24So the biggest ones are actually three times bigger than this?
00:26It is, yeah.
00:27This is only a 16 litre tank, the big ones are 15 litres.
00:29And it runs on petrol?
00:30Battery-operated.
00:31Battery-operated, okay.
00:32And, Scott, why will farmers be using these in the future?
00:36So time of year, we've got a farmer that sprays liquid fertilizer at times of year when he
00:43can't get his vehicle into the field.
00:46Also places where you're hard to reach, like shading greenhouses with shading paint, or
00:52particular terrain that you struggle to get normal vehicles up.
00:55So farmers will buy them as a necessity, but it's more going to be your contractors that
01:00will be providing the service, and they will use this bit of kit as part of their...
01:04So it's the shape of things to come?
01:06Yes, we're late to the future.
01:09These have been used for the past 10, 12 years abroad in various other countries, so we are
01:14very late to the market.
01:15But with that, you know, the thieving problems have ironed out in the early years and we
01:20get a good product to operate here in the UK.
