The health secretary has responded to the findings in the birth trauma report, which found good care is “the exception rather than the rule”. Victoria Atkins said she "completely gets it", referencing her own experience giving birth in an NHS ward. "I've spoken about my own experiences about having a baby on the NHS. I want to shine a light on all of this and with this report, but also with my own personal commitment and I have prioritised women's health and maternity services as one of the priorities of this government," she said. 00:00 I completely get it. I am not only Secretary of State for Health, I'm also a mum and I've
00:05 spoken about my own experiences of having a baby on the NHS, some wonderful moments but also frankly
00:12 some darker corners to that as well. And I want to shine a light on all of this and with this report
00:19 but also with my own personal commitment and indeed I have prioritised women's health and
00:25 maternity services as one of the health priorities of this government. I am confident that we will
00:32 see changes not just in the far future but in the near term as well because I want mums to be
00:39 watching this programme to have confidence in the care they will get in the NHS.
