00:06 Democracy party in the European Parliament elections in June.

00:12 It shows the party lost 3% of its support between March and May, but still came out

00:20 It's been one year since Greeks went to the polls and elected New Democracy, led by Prime

00:25 Minister Hiriakos Mitsotakis, and the party appears to be retaining its popularity over

00:32 its moderate left-wing rivals Syriza and PASOK.

00:37 The Superpoll put Syriza in second place and PASOK third.

00:42 Mitsotakis leads Syriza's candidate for Prime Minister, Stefanos Kasalakis, by more than

00:51 Greece is somewhat of an outlier.

00:54 Most of the European ruling parties are likely to face setbacks in the elections.

02:13 Boleri is serving a two-year prison sentence in Albania for election fraud.

02:35 This political trend could lead to a change in women's rights, as it would move the EU

02:40 away from a feminist agenda.

02:42 Gender equality expert says that for many women, the EU remains irrelevant to their

02:47 "In Europe, there are 10 million women more than men, which means we are the biggest population

03:02 in Europe.

03:04 But still we are underrepresented."

03:07 European feminist organisations are unhappy at what they consider a lack of investment

03:12 to respond back to misinformation and anti-gender movements.

03:16 "Online platforms amplifying conspiracy theories and disinformation have emboldened the far-right

03:22 and anti-gender movement, allowing them to form strong social networks and assure AI-generative

03:29 disinformation through algorithmic bias.

03:32 And these anti-gender networks, they're well-funded, they have a wealth of resources to tap into,

03:40 and they're using that to create campaigns and bots on social media.

03:43 And in comparison to the feminist movement, we are underfunded and under-resourced, and

03:48 we face incredible difficulties in trying to combat this."

03:51 Women who decide to enter a political career have to weigh up greater exposure to violence

03:56 more than ever before.

03:58 Psychological, physical and online violence are some of the problems they face that can

04:03 lead to them giving up politics or becoming less vocal.

04:07 "I've noticed, I see today that all the attacks that concern me are attacks that aim

04:18 to delegitimize my speech, to discredit what I say, and always with an orientation that

04:27 is targeted at my gender identity, the fact that I am a woman.

04:32 A lot of criticism, a lot of insults, remarks about the physical, which always aims to create,

04:40 to arouse an environment of fear, an environment that destabilizes."
