00:15 I kind of think that Doctor Who belongs to the public in a way.

00:18 It's been around for 61 years now.

00:20 Everyone grew up with it.

00:21 Everyone.

00:22 It's a cultural thing.

00:23 So it feels like we're releasing it out to the world.

00:26 It's wrong to own it and watch it in our offices and keep it secret.

00:29 Out it goes like a wild, wonderful thing.

00:32 What an exciting time for this series where it feels like the message is unexpectedly

00:37 unexpected in a way.

00:38 I hope it's a little bit wilder.

00:40 I've tried to make it.

00:41 The more television there is, the more predictable a lot of it is.

00:44 So I wanted it to be bonkers and wild and fun and mad and a bit magical.

00:48 And I think we've done that.

00:49 What I always wondered though is when you left the last time and then there was that

00:53 banana and tofu and cucumber and years and years.

00:56 There's so many incredible dramas that came afterwards.

00:59 What I wonder in a writer's brain, is this stuff all rattling in there right now?

01:03 Are you already thinking about what you'll do after Doctor Who or during Doctor Who?

01:08 I think it's like anyone though.

01:09 You will have 27 plans in your mind.

01:11 What you want to do next.

01:12 Where you want to live.

01:13 What you want to do at home.

01:14 How you want to live your life.

01:15 What are your ideas.

01:16 We all have those minds.

01:18 It's like plate spinning.

01:19 You keep them all, if anyone remembers plate spinners when they used to be on television,

01:22 it's keeping them all at once.

01:23 That's all a writer does really is keep 100 stories spinning at once.

01:51 Well, Helena Bonham Carter is nominated tonight for playing Nollie, which is the life story

01:55 of Noel Gordon who was a soap star in the 60s, 70s, 80s.

01:58 And you know the funny thing is we realised arriving here today that television was quite

02:02 snotty in those days.

02:03 They didn't recognise soaps in the way that we do these days.

02:06 And I'm willing to bet that Noel Gordon never got invited to the BAFTAs.

02:09 Never.

02:10 All the posh actors did, she wasn't.

02:11 So I think today is a really lovely moment for her to be named and respected and remembered

02:16 somewhere if I believed in ghosts, the spirit of Noel Gordon is walking this carpet with

02:21 us and I'm really happy.

02:22 And one final thing, what we do here is celebrate things that have already come to pass and

02:25 we've seen.

02:26 The world loves a reboot these days.

02:27 You've got so many fantastic dramas under your belt.

02:29 Is there anything that you would go and have another go at again?

02:32 A bit like you've done with Who?

02:33 Oh, yes.

02:34 I'll tell you what.

02:35 I did a drama for ITV called The Second Coming, which I love.

02:39 Which Christopher Eccleston was amazing in that.

02:41 That actually demands a Netflix budget and 10 episodes, 12 episodes.

02:45 I could do that again.

02:47 That show is the exact show that made me fall in love with Russell T Davies.

02:50 Except also it wouldn't get made these days.
