Thousands Flee Rafah, Israel Tells Biden It "Cannot Be Subdued" With Threat To Halt Arms Supplies

Israel has massed tanks near Rafah after US President Biden warned he would halt weapon shipments if the IDF invades Gaza’s south. Residents in the east of Rafah also reported the sound of explosions in battles between Palestinian fighters and approaching Israeli troops. Israeli tank fire killed three and wounded others near a mosque in Rafah on May 9, residents and medics said. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees said about 80,000 people had fled Rafah in the three days since Israel intensified military operations. Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron asked Israel for a “ very clear plan” for how civilians will be protected in its operation in Rafah.
