Croatia's ruling conservatives embrace far-right party in new government

The ruling HDZ party took a major decision on Wednesday to form a coalition with a far-right nationalist party, signalling a shift towards the right as the European elections approach next month.

00:10Today we had another round of talks between the Croatian Democratic Union and the Homeland Movement.

00:19We agreed on a partnership in the context of creating a new parliamentary majority.

00:25We said that demography is a key issue and demographic revitalization, the survival of the Croatian people, our future and competitiveness,

00:33but also the survival of the whole nation.

00:37That is why we are one of the first at the level of the European Union to introduce the Ministry of Justice for Demography.

00:44The Homeland Movement, also known as DP, has previously campaigned for anti-abortion and nationalist issues,

00:52but is in support of the European Union and Ukraine in its war against Russia.
