00:00 I'm Matt Lodi for Cleveland Baseball Insider on SI.com. Happy opening day
00:04 everyone. The Cleveland Indians will be on the field on Friday night taking on
00:08 the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field. The Indians got some good news on
00:12 Thursday as Major League Baseball announcing that they're expanding the
00:15 postseason from 10 to 16 teams. What does that mean for the tribe? It means a much
00:20 better chance of playing baseball into October. A number of American League
00:24 teams though will challenge the Indians for one of those spots including the
00:27 Boston Red Sox, the Los Angeles Angels, the Texas Rangers and from the AL Central
00:33 the Chicago White Sox who made a number of big offseason acquisitions with the
00:37 hope of being in the playoff hunt. As far as the expansion of the postseason it's
00:42 only going to be for 2020 so don't get used to it but for now an expansion of
00:46 the playoffs for this season along with all the other changes that we're going
00:49 to see should make it for a very interesting 2020. Again Major League
00:53 Baseball expanding the postseason from 10 to 16 teams starting in 2020 and
00:58 only for 2020. For Cleveland Baseball Insider on SI.com I'm Matt Lodi.
