00:04 When Hogwarts Legacy was first announced, it almost seemed too good to be true, fulfilling
00:09 every millennial and Gen Zers childhood dream of actually receiving that magical Hogwarts
00:14 acceptance letter, going to classes, exploring the wizarding world, and of course, earning
00:20 10 points for Gryffindor.
00:23 But after seeing the PlayStation State of Play deep dive, it actually looks like it
00:26 could deliver on all of that, and potentially much more.
00:30 Here are some of the coolest things that we spotted in the Hogwarts Legacy gameplay state
00:34 of play.
00:35 First up, you can become a member of any house.
00:38 Hogwarts Legacy has fully fleshed out the four houses of Hogwarts, and features some
00:43 areas that we've never seen before, like the Hufflepuff common room.
00:46 It's still unclear how exactly you'll get sorted into your house in the game.
00:50 Will it be random?
00:51 Will you have to take on some sort of test or exam?
00:53 Or will you simply get to choose at the start?
00:56 These questions are still yet to be answered.
00:58 But remember, just because you're a Slytherin, doesn't mean that you're destined to be
01:02 the next Dark Lord.
01:03 Unless, you want to become the next Dark Lord.
01:09 You also won't be confined to just the halls of Hogwarts.
01:13 Hogwarts Legacy is at its core an open world RPG adventure, allowing you to explore the
01:18 surrounding areas of the school on foot, broom, or magical beastie.
01:25 From Hogsmeade to beyond the Forbidden Forest, it seems like you'll be visiting plenty
01:30 of unfamiliar locations during your first magical academic year.
01:35 Just remember, when you start the game, you're only 15 years old, so don't expect to be
01:39 getting super messy on a bunch of butterbeer down the three broomsticks inn.
01:50 Hogwarts Legacy will have no microtransactions.
01:54 When we saw those base building mechanics, countdown timers, and three separate currencies
01:59 in the gameplay showcase, we all thought the same thing.
02:02 How much is this going to cost me?
02:05 But after the showcase, a community manager at AvalancheWB took to Twitter and confirmed
02:10 that microtransactions will not be in the game.
02:14 Party in the Ravenclaw common room?
02:16 Thankfully, it doesn't seem like we'll be needing to neck a bunch of liquid luck
02:19 before tearing open a bunch of loot box ancient chests in the hopes of landing that sick +7
02:24 Gryffindor scarf.
02:26 Was any of that even English?
02:28 You'll be able to bring your classmates along on missions.
02:39 It wouldn't be a Harry Potter adventure without a healthy dose of child endangerment,
02:44 and it seems like Hogwarts Legacy is keeping that tradition alive.
02:47 Not only will you be able to wander the wizarding world to fight fantastic beasts, goblins,
02:52 and wand-wielding bad guys, but you'll also be able to bring several of your classmates
02:57 along for backup.
02:58 We got introduced to three of these students during the state of play, and they all seem
03:02 to be members of different houses.
03:04 However, we didn't get any hint of dialogue options or story-based decision making during
03:09 the showcase, so it's still unclear how much agency you'll have over who you invite
03:14 along or what order you undertake these missions in.
03:20 Combat is going to be unlike any previous Harry Potter game.
03:23 It's always hard to judge a game's gameplay before you've got your hands on the sticks.
03:28 However, Hogwarts Legacy's combat is set to be combo-based.
03:33 It seems to be more like God of War or Devil May Cry than any previous wizard simulator
03:38 we've tried.
03:39 Juggling enemies in the air, blocking at the right time, and dodge rolling out of danger
03:44 seems to be the foundation that the magical action is based on.
03:48 Couple all of that with stat-based collectible gear and potions that can increase your power
03:52 or defence, and it seems like this combat might be deeper and more complex than we were
03:58 initially expecting.
04:01 There are a bunch of questions that we still don't have answers to, but that's not
04:27 got us any less excited for Hogwarts Legacy.
04:30 It's due to come to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC this holiday
04:37 season.
