00:00:29 Yes, hello and welcome to Ankara, Turkey for the conclusion of Super Saturday.
00:00:35 Now you can see things have, well, dried up a little bit.
00:00:38 We had a downpour, heavy downpour and heavy wind,
00:00:42 which meant that the competition was delayed, but we are now ready to get going.
00:00:47 The conditions are safe and everybody is now preparing themselves
00:00:51 for what promises to be a very exciting afternoon of petathlon action.
00:00:57 It's cold and it's a little bit windy still, but it's not as bad as it was before,
00:01:01 which is the main thing. 10 degrees Celsius, dropped from 26 a few days ago.
00:01:04 We'll get more into that in a moment's time, but let's just take a look at how the new format works,
00:01:08 which starts with qualifications where the athlete numbers are reduced to two groups of 18
00:01:11 with semi-final A and B taking place after the semi-finals.
00:01:14 We'll have the 18 best athletes who contest in the final,
00:01:18 the event taking place over a condensed 90-minute duration.
00:01:22 Five disciplines with 18 athletes up against each other and competing for those medals.
00:01:27 Today is the final day where those medals are won.
00:01:31 The riding rules point scoring system on your screens there.
00:01:34 We'll go into greater detail in a moment's time, because that's our first discipline of the day.
00:01:38 It's then over to the fencing bonus round for the one-on-one bouts
00:01:41 with the conclusion of the fencing action, which concludes the ranking round,
00:01:46 which happened a couple of days before.
00:01:48 It's then off to the pools for the heats of the 200-metre freestyle in Narenka.
00:01:53 It's a 25-metre pool, we conclude, with the ever-dramatic laser run.
00:01:57 Five laps of the 600-metre circuit with four laser shooting rounds
00:02:01 where the athletes have to shoot the five targets.
00:02:04 The first over the finish line, as always, is the winner.
00:02:07 This is the new format. It's fast, it's frantic, and a new challenge for athletes to overcome.
00:02:13 Five sports in 90 minutes. It's also Olympic year.
00:02:17 Strap yourselves in, everyone. Welcome to Montepetathlon 2023.
00:02:22 It's time to award some medals.
00:02:24 Those are the Olympic ranking points, and you can see Jean-Baptiste Mosséa.
00:02:29 That's a brilliant start to the season. He's top of the Olympic rankings.
00:02:33 He's not here, though, in this final today.
00:02:35 Emiliano Hernandez is. He's in second place.
00:02:37 Ahmed El-Gendiaf, that gold in Cairo, has leapt up the rankings.
00:02:41 He's in third place overall.
00:02:44 Valentin Bello in tenth place.
00:02:47 Charles Brown in today's final. We're hoping to climb up inside that top ten.
00:02:51 As for Todor Michalev, who is in today's final.
00:02:54 Plenty that could still change. You can see Jean-Baptiste Mosséa.
00:02:57 We're hoping to improve on what was a disappointing event in Cairo,
00:03:02 but I think he's a lot of people's favourite.
00:03:03 We'll hear more about that in the second half.
00:03:05 Let's take a look at the fencing action and some of the scores from the ranking round
00:03:10 when the athletes started to put together their results from the ranking round.
00:03:16 And there is an interesting headline to come from that ranking round.
00:03:20 And that is that Patrick Dogg made 27 victories.
00:03:25 A brilliant performance from him.
00:03:27 Chang Wang Sao is in second place.
00:03:30 And Mohamed El-Gendiaf is in third.
00:03:33 Mohamed Shaban in fourth place.
00:03:35 And in fifth place is Pavlo Timoshenko.
00:03:38 We will be nearly in with the action.
00:03:42 The athletes are getting themselves ready to go out onto the riding arena.
00:03:45 Patrick Dogg has actually joined us in the comment box.
00:03:47 We can't get any word from him at the moment because he's preparing himself to get into the ride.
00:03:50 But we will say good luck, Patrick. Best of luck.
00:03:52 We'll see you on the riding arena.
00:03:55 Right. We begin the competition then from the riding arena.
00:04:02 First up, it is Patrick's German colleague, Fabian Liebig.
00:04:07 Marian, we welcome you back into the commentary box.
00:04:09 Fabian, it's good to see you back on the circuit, isn't it?
00:04:11 He's back here competing and through to the final, which in itself is an achievement, isn't it?
00:04:15 Yes, I mean, his running performance was absolutely impeccable after a disappointing season last year.
00:04:23 He was out injured, wasn't he?
00:04:24 He had an inflamed Achilles tendon that needed surgery, which meant he couldn't compete.
00:04:30 Obviously, he had to take some time out. Disappointing year, as you say.
00:04:32 Yes, disappointing, I mean, in terms of injury, of course.
00:04:35 Yes, of course. Just to add some context.
00:04:38 But here he is back out riding and the German team are looking on nervously.
00:04:42 But the sun has just peaked through the clouds.
00:04:44 It could have been a lot worse. It was raining heavily, but the competition delayed.
00:04:48 I think probably the right decision. Would you agree, Marian?
00:04:50 Yes, absolutely. It was in no way safe enough for the athletes to compete in those conditions.
00:04:56 But here we are, Fabian Liebig with two fences to go.
00:05:00 So far, so good for Liebig.
00:05:03 29 heading towards 10 and...
00:05:06 Oh, just about gets away with it.
00:05:08 But it is a perfect 300 for Fabian Liebig on horse 6.
00:05:14 Kekakbi.
00:05:15 And, yeah, that's a good start to the riding.
00:05:19 It's a really solid ride that from Liebig.
00:05:20 He could be, I mean, he could make some progress there, couldn't he?
00:05:24 He's a good, he's a good laser runner, Liebig. Very fast runner.
00:05:27 Yeah, I think he made up almost 50 seconds in the semifinals.
00:05:30 So I wouldn't rule him out at all.
00:05:32 A bit like what we saw in the women's final, where we had Jintaro Venkauskaita and Blanka Bauer in 18th and 17th place.
00:05:38 We've got Fabian Liebig and Martin Vlach in 18th and 17th place.
00:05:41 Both quick runners, both good laser runners.
00:05:44 Let's see how Martin Vlach gets on.
00:05:46 He's in 17th place.
00:05:47 And we've seen him come from a lot further back, Martin Vlach, and get himself inside top 10 positions.
00:05:53 So if Vlach goes clear here, I would kind of back him for a top 10 finish.
00:05:58 Yeah, I mean, he's one of these athletes that continue to surprise us time and time again.
00:06:02 Again, with that solid laser run, you know, you can go a long way with that.
00:06:06 He's over four and five.
00:06:10 It's a sharp right hand turn into six A and B.
00:06:14 First one is a vertical.
00:06:17 Clears that into the oxford and clears that as well.
00:06:21 Well, we've yet to have a knockdown so far.
00:06:25 We are only one and two thirds of the way through our 18 athletes.
00:06:30 But Vlach is putting together a nice ride here.
00:06:34 Sharp left hand swing past the trees towards nine.
00:06:39 Good time as well.
00:06:41 It's 1.06, I think that's how. 1.09.
00:06:44 And heads towards 10 and clears it.
00:06:46 He does, yes.
00:06:47 Clicks on the way past.
00:06:48 But it is a perfect score for Vlach as well.
00:06:52 And Liebig and Vlach announcing to the rest of the competition.
00:06:56 We're not done yet.
00:06:58 We'll see those guys later on in the competition.
00:07:00 Yeah, definitely one of the names, two of the names to watch out for.
00:07:05 These athletes ahead will be looking to get perfect scores as well.
00:07:10 As Maric Gryc makes his way to the riding arena, also from the Czech Republic.
00:07:19 Maric Gryc alongside his teammate.
00:07:22 And Maric Gryc had a very good laser run in the semifinals to qualify himself for the final.
00:07:33 Bronze medalist in the 2021/24 European Championships.
00:07:41 He's 60 points off the lead.
00:07:44 What can Maric Gryc do here?
00:07:46 Well, the best thing he can do is focus on his competition.
00:07:49 And so far, no knockdowns at all, actually, from their first attempts at this course.
00:07:57 A tricky course.
00:07:59 The athletes are rising to the occasion, aren't they, Maric?
00:08:01 They are.
00:08:02 I mean, these are the 18 athletes who have shown the most promise in this competition.
00:08:07 And given that it is Olympic year, one of the best 18 athletes in the world.
00:08:14 Here we go then.
00:08:20 Final two fences for the third athlete in the arena.
00:08:24 Maric Gryc is doing well here.
00:08:27 Will he come out of this with a perfect score and just clips that number 10 at the end there?
00:08:32 It's going to be seven jumping penalties for Maric Gryc.
00:08:35 So a score of 293.
00:08:37 Pretty good.
00:08:38 Yeah, 293.
00:08:39 I think Gryc will be happy with that.
00:08:40 It's the first knockdown of the afternoon, but just seven points taken off of his score.
00:08:54 Next up, it is the Olympic silver medalist, Ahmed El-Ghendi,
00:08:58 comes into this competition on the back of gold in Cairo.
00:09:03 His fiancée sat in the commentary box to my left,
00:09:06 nervously watching on as El-Ghendi tries to make his impact on this competition.
00:09:14 Over towards two, right through the middle, clips on the way past.
00:09:18 That's fine.
00:09:19 Over the octa of three.
00:09:20 Sharp right turn now towards 4A and 4B.
00:09:26 4A is clear and 4B with a little clip on the way past.
00:09:31 Mariam takes an intake of breath.
00:09:33 I wish you could see Mariam's face there.
00:09:35 She is riding every part of this course with Ahmed.
00:09:39 Clears 6A and knocks down 6B.
00:09:43 That's okay.
00:09:46 It does mean he's now 62 points off the lead.
00:09:49 Can't afford really to lose any more ground if he does realistically have any hopes of a solid finish here.
00:09:56 Ahmed El-Ghendi is a good laser runner,
00:09:58 so don't be surprised to see him at the upper echelons of this competition later on.
00:10:02 Clears 9A, one to go here from El-Ghendi.
00:10:05 Oh, that's a knockdown on obstacle 10 and it's a 2.86.
00:10:10 But I think Mariam, well, he's not going to be happy with that, is he?
00:10:15 But it's still a good score, isn't it?
00:10:17 Yeah, it's an okay score.
00:10:19 I think he would have wanted to ride a bit better,
00:10:22 given that the rest of the field is pretty far from him at the moment.
00:10:28 The athletes behind him have obviously had perfect scores, but again,
00:10:33 that is an okay score by Ahmed El-Ghendi.
00:10:38 Miles Pillage up next.
00:10:40 Yeah, Pillage under the careful guidance of his riding coach, Giubina.
00:10:44 Now, look, Giubina gets a lot of mentions on this broadcast.
00:10:49 The British riding coach and probably other riding coaches will think,
00:10:52 "Why is she getting all the attention?"
00:10:54 But she is an icon in this sport, isn't she?
00:10:56 I think everyone would agree on that.
00:10:58 She's a real character in the circuit.
00:11:02 And produces good riders as well.
00:11:05 The British riders are very consistent.
00:11:07 All the riding from the British team really reflects on the experience
00:11:13 and expertise of Giubina.
00:11:15 So, Miles Pillage going well here, heading towards 6A and 6B.
00:11:20 Over halfway now with no knockdowns.
00:11:22 Pillage in 14th place on level score with his teammate, Charles Brown.
00:11:28 Both of them good laser runners, so again, could be dangerous from this point of view.
00:11:33 A knockdown there for Pillage on 8A.
00:11:36 So it will be a 2.93 if he can clear these last two obstacles.
00:11:42 Over 9, straight towards 10.
00:11:45 And it wasn't a knockdown on that final obstacle like we saw with Ahmed El-Ghendi.
00:11:50 Bringing it to solid, 2.93 from Pillage, who looks back and sees the...
00:11:57 El-Ghendi volunteer and put that 8A obstacle back on.
00:12:04 Good ride that from Pillage.
00:12:05 Yeah, solid ride from Pillage.
00:12:08 Again, these athletes at the bottom really are making it tough for those up top.
00:12:13 I mean, Meric Reach and Morten Black were a threat to begin with,
00:12:16 but those perfect scores, things can get tight pretty fast.
00:12:20 British team watching on there looks pretty happy.
00:12:23 Up next, it is Giorgio Milan, who is looking to climb up those standards.
00:12:31 It's quite congested at this point.
00:12:32 Oh, and it's a knockdown.
00:12:33 Early door then for Milan on obstacle one.
00:12:36 That's always an uphill battle when you lose points on that first obstacle.
00:12:41 So Milan, with work to do here, has got to consolidate this
00:12:45 and try not to make any more mistakes.
00:12:47 It doesn't look quite as smooth this ride so far, Mariam.
00:12:49 Give us your expert insight into this.
00:12:52 Well, the pace of the horse seems kind of off.
00:12:56 Milan is a good rider, but there's, I don't know,
00:13:00 there's some sort of lag with the horse there.
00:13:03 He's not approaching the fences the right way.
00:13:06 You see he goes steep, which makes him make mistakes on the fences.
00:13:13 So it's two knockdowns so far by Giorgio Milan.
00:13:17 Still has four more fences to go.
00:13:20 Seven, eight A and eight B.
00:13:23 He goes too deep into those fences.
00:13:25 You hear the knock of the hoof on the top of the obstacle.
00:13:28 Yeah.
00:13:29 Shows you just how close it is.
00:13:30 Nine and ten to go.
00:13:36 There we go.
00:13:37 And Milan with a 2.86.
00:13:45 I think, listen, 2.86 feels obviously a little bit more frustrating than 2.93, clearly.
00:13:56 But ultimately 2.86 is...
00:13:59 It's a good score, yeah.
00:14:02 It's a funny one, 2.86, isn't it?
00:14:04 Because it's like, OK, it could be a lot worse.
00:14:06 But at the same time, you have lost 14 points on those who have a perfect score,
00:14:12 which is ultimately 14 seconds.
00:14:14 And when you think how far...
00:14:15 14 seconds is a lot.
00:14:16 It just puts the pressure on, doesn't it?
00:14:18 You could then go into Laser Run and have four sub-10 second shoots
00:14:22 and you make up those 14 seconds.
00:14:24 But, I mean, for, you know, for example, for Giorgio Milan,
00:14:27 if he had hopes of a medal, those 14 points could well be what looters him that medal.
00:14:33 I'm not saying he would have got it, but you get my point.
00:14:35 Anyway, Charles Brown of Great Britain on the course, top 10 World Championships.
00:14:41 That's a bit of a slow ride from Charles Brown.
00:14:44 I think he needs to pick up the pace if the horse needs to rebalance himself before...
00:14:50 Oh, well, it's a refusal.
00:14:52 So Charles has to...
00:14:54 Go around again.
00:14:55 Just keep it calm.
00:14:56 He's got... He's losing a lot of time here.
00:14:59 He's just taking a little bit of pace out.
00:15:02 He has to compose himself, go again.
00:15:05 And it's a second refusal.
00:15:07 So, he'll have to go around the obstacles now.
00:15:13 There we go, back on track.
00:15:15 Oh, no, it's a third refusal for Charlie, which will sadly be elimination.
00:15:22 And obviously, Charlie disappointed there, but he needs to take encouragement
00:15:29 from what has been a really good competition up until this point.
00:15:32 And...
00:15:33 Talk to us about what went wrong there, Maria.
00:15:37 Yeah, so, obviously, the pace of the horse coming into that fence wasn't the appropriate one,
00:15:43 as well as his reins were a little bit loose coming into those fences.
00:15:48 It makes the horse lose confidence in their jumping ability.
00:15:55 But, again, he'll recover from this and get stronger.
00:15:59 I mean, Charlie Brown is one of the up-and-coming athletes in the field.
00:16:03 He's only 21 years of age. He is still a youngster, isn't he?
00:16:07 He's 20, I think. He's not even 21 yet.
00:16:09 He's 21. He just recently turned 21.
00:16:10 Do you remember last World Cup, the balloons?
00:16:12 Yeah, I remember.
00:16:13 Come on, Maria, keep up.
00:16:15 For context there, Maria helped out.
00:16:18 Or was it your sister that helped out buying the balloons for his birthday?
00:16:21 Montaz Mohamed is up next.
00:16:24 Montaz Mohamed is in good form.
00:16:28 He won silver in Cairo.
00:16:32 The local crowd didn't seem too bothered, did they?
00:16:35 We joke, of course, he was up on the shoulders of all the Egyptians
00:16:39 and having the time of his life alongside Ahmed El-Gendiy.
00:16:41 It was Egyptian 1-2 in Cairo.
00:16:43 Not sure that's going to be the case here.
00:16:45 But Montaz Mohamed is in a good rhythm here.
00:16:49 He heads past five, a little bit loose on the landing,
00:16:52 but he manages to hold on.
00:16:54 It's gone very wide in 2-6-8.
00:16:56 But this is a forgiving course time-wise.
00:16:58 Yeah, time-wise it's looking good for Montaz Mohamed.
00:17:01 But generally speaking, we've not really seen many athletes go over that 1-0-9.
00:17:05 Yeah, I think it's adjusted appropriately to most of the horse's speed
00:17:12 and it's one of the more slower horses, I'd say, we've had.
00:17:19 There we go, final two fences for Montaz Mohamed.
00:17:22 This could be a perfect score for him.
00:17:24 Over 9.
00:17:26 It's a bit of a wide there, but it is a 300 for Montaz Mohamed.
00:17:32 Yeah.
00:17:33 That's his horse.
00:17:34 Love that. Good score.
00:17:36 Fun ride that.
00:17:40 Perfect three.
00:17:42 He is wonderful.
00:17:44 So Montaz Cicinelli makes his way back onto the course.
00:17:57 Cicinelli on horse 19, the Poussat.
00:18:04 Music really sets the mood for the riding course, doesn't it?
00:18:08 Cicinelli ate the World Cup final last year here in Ancours.
00:18:13 Knocked down on 2 there.
00:18:15 It's a bit slow coming into 2.
00:18:17 You can see it is so congested that knocks him down quite a few places.
00:18:24 He's managed not to make any more mistakes so far.
00:18:29 Through to 6A.
00:18:32 Over 6B, drift apart the course there.
00:18:36 Left hand turn into 7.
00:18:41 If he manages to get away from the corner, he's going to be in trouble.
00:18:45 He's got to be careful.
00:18:47 Left hand turn into 7.
00:18:51 If he manages to get away with just those 7 penalty points, he should be OK.
00:18:57 Clips that but doesn't fall over.
00:19:00 We head into our final two fences.
00:19:03 Here we go, over 9.
00:19:06 Clears that and one more to go for Matteo Cicinelli.
00:19:09 And it's a knockdown on the last one.
00:19:11 You could tell that it wasn't looking good going into 10 there.
00:19:16 Between 9 and 10 is obviously a broken line and that broken line can really be tricky
00:19:22 if you're not properly counting the steps in between those obstacles.
00:19:27 I think that was the issue here for Matteo Cicinelli.
00:19:30 Turned right a little bit too late into that 10th obstacle.
00:19:35 But he will make do with 8 to 8. 6.
00:19:41 So Emiliano Hernandez makes his way into the arena.
00:19:46 Emiliano not quite having the competition he wanted in Cairo.
00:19:53 He's a gold medalist at the Pan American Games.
00:19:57 Second silver medal of course in the World Championships in Bath.
00:20:01 Third at World Cup Final 2023.
00:20:04 He's really found some form, hoping to carry it through this season.
00:20:11 His brother Ismael, a bronze medalist at the Olympics.
00:20:14 How much Emiliano would like to continue the legacy of the Hernandez name.
00:20:21 He's doing well here to keep the horse on track.
00:20:26 Yeah, I was just going to say.
00:20:28 Emiliano with the horse here has his heels correctly positioned.
00:20:40 He goes over 6 A and B.
00:20:42 This is looking good from the young Mexican.
00:20:48 This must be another perfect score here in Ankara.
00:20:53 Two more fences.
00:20:55 I think Emiliano could be quite dangerous from here.
00:20:58 But such is the score from Patrick Dogg.
00:21:00 You feel it might be difficult for him to catch the lead.
00:21:02 But let's see what happens.
00:21:04 Emiliano Hernandez with the perfect 300th.
00:21:08 In 9th place overall and holds on to 9th place.
00:21:13 Dan-Oli Kander has the brilliant line from Emiliano Hernandez.
00:21:18 In 2nd place.
00:21:21 Now in the arena, the Bulgarian Todor Mihalev.
00:21:31 Just over halfway done with the ride.
00:21:35 As we introduce Todor Mihalev of Bulgaria on the train.
00:21:42 The next elevator to the level.
00:21:46 Here we go then.
00:21:49 Todor Mihalev in 8th place overall.
00:22:03 Going well.
00:22:07 Todor Mihalev was 2nd in the European Climbing Jury in Kyrgyzstan last year.
00:22:12 Also 12th in the Budapest Indoors.
00:22:14 This is a really good competition for Todor inside that top 10.
00:22:18 This is a nice ride from the Bulgarian so far.
00:22:35 He's going deep into those fences but manages to get away with it.
00:22:39 He clips 8a but doesn't fall down.
00:22:42 2 to go for Todor Mihalev on track for the perfect score here.
00:22:47 Clears 9.
00:22:49 Broken line.
00:22:50 Broken line into 10 and there you go.
00:22:53 Another 300 and that is now 5th perfect score we've had.
00:23:00 So up next is Mohamed Elgendy.
00:23:04 Yeah, the third of four Egyptians in this final.
00:23:07 Mother of Mohamed Elgendy, Mohamed Elgendy looking to improve on his brother's score.
00:23:14 He's got a really good score.
00:23:16 He's got a really good score.
00:23:17 He's got a really good score.
00:23:18 He's got a really good score.
00:23:19 He's got a really good score.
00:23:20 He's got a really good score.
00:23:21 He's got a really good score.
00:23:22 He's got a really good score.
00:23:23 He's got a really good score.
00:23:24 He's got a really good score.
00:23:25 He's got a really good score.
00:23:26 He's got a really good score.
00:23:27 He's got a really good score.
00:23:28 He's got a really good score.
00:23:29 He's got a really good score.
00:23:30 He's got a really good score.
00:23:31 He's got a really good score.
00:23:32 He's got a really good score.
00:23:33 He's got a really good score.
00:23:34 He's got a really good score.
00:23:35 He's got a really good score.
00:23:36 He's got a really good score.
00:23:37 He's got a really good score.
00:23:38 He's got a really good score.
00:23:39 He's got a really good score.
00:23:40 He's got a really good score.
00:23:41 He's got a really good score.
00:23:42 He's got a really good score.
00:23:43 He's got a really good score.
00:23:44 He's got a really good score.
00:23:45 He's got a really good score.
00:23:46 He's got a really good score.
00:23:47 He's got a really good score.
00:23:48 He's got a really good score.
00:23:49 He's got a really good score.
00:23:50 He has to go back and reattempt it.
00:23:53 So, Mohamed had some bad luck in Cairo.
00:23:57 Oh, it's a second refusal now.
00:24:00 He has to move on to 4 and 5.
00:24:03 He needs to pick up the pace if he doesn't want to lose any more time penalties.
00:24:06 So, it will be at best a 280 here.
00:24:09 Oh, it's a third refusal.
00:24:11 And that, sadly, is an elimination for Mohamed El-Gendy.
00:24:19 Yeah, disappointing.
00:24:20 He's had some bad luck this year, hasn't he?
00:24:29 Yeah, well, that takes a little bit of a sting out of things, doesn't it?
00:24:36 Yeah, his teammate, Mohamed Chaban, is up next in the arena.
00:24:41 Yeah, Mohamed Chaban looking to put a disappointing Cairo behind him.
00:24:46 Mohamed Chaban winning many medals last year in every event apart from his home event in Cairo.
00:24:52 And he's inside the top six here.
00:24:56 Yeah, he's in a good position to get on the podium.
00:24:58 Yeah, I think medals definitely on the cards.
00:25:02 I think Chang Mang Seow is going to take some beating in this competition.
00:25:05 He's such a good laser runner.
00:25:06 If he can get through that ride cleanly, he would be my favourite.
00:25:09 Oh, no!
00:25:13 That was unexpected.
00:25:14 Is he okay?
00:25:15 Yeah, well, that's the most important thing, isn't it?
00:25:17 He's still down.
00:25:19 I think he's a bit sore in his lower back there.
00:25:22 That was a hard fall.
00:25:24 Yeah.
00:25:25 So, was it refusal?
00:25:27 But then he fell in front of the fence.
00:25:30 I think they're going to call a doctor.
00:25:35 Let's pray that he's okay.
00:25:36 That's the most important part.
00:25:38 This competition doesn't even matter if his health isn't fine.
00:25:40 None of this matters, does it?
00:25:42 It's someone's health that is the most important thing.
00:25:47 Could just be shock.
00:25:48 Could have just winded himself.
00:25:50 We're not going to speculate at the moment.
00:25:51 The medical team have gone over to see if he's okay.
00:25:55 And he's up on his feet.
00:26:01 Hopefully, he's going to be okay here.
00:26:03 Whether or not he'll continue in the competition remains to be seen.
00:26:13 I think we're all just in shock at this point.
00:26:16 Just hope he's okay.
00:26:18 It's tough for the Egyptian team, this, isn't it?
00:26:20 It's back-to-back eliminations.
00:26:23 He's walking gingerly, but he's walking away.
00:26:26 So, it's a good sign, that.
00:26:28 I mean, let's just say he doesn't look seriously injured.
00:26:32 Probably, I don't want to speculate, but you can see on the screens.
00:26:37 You can tell a lot by facial expressions.
00:26:39 I think he's okay.
00:26:41 Yeah, he looks okay.
00:26:44 Big clap from the crowd there.
00:26:47 It's good to see that he's walking away.
00:26:50 It's definitely a sore one, that, though, isn't it?
00:26:52 We'll find out from the Egyptian team if he's okay later, Mariam.
00:26:57 Yeah, we'll find out and let you know.
00:26:59 Yeah, but this is a...
00:27:01 This is a big shock, and I hate to pull this out of the bag,
00:27:06 but it is changing this competition.
00:27:09 As we speak, Mohamed Hakendi is out, Mohamed Chabane is out,
00:27:12 and I think two of them were favourites for medal positions as well.
00:27:16 They always are when those athletes are in a good position.
00:27:19 Yeah, just opens up the competition completely.
00:27:22 Let's move on from it.
00:27:24 Pavlo Timoshenko on the course now, the Rio silver medalist.
00:27:30 And Pavlo Timoshenko is quietly going about his business here, isn't he?
00:27:36 Yeah, he's definitely one of the most experienced riders in the field,
00:27:41 and I think he can get on with any hand he's dealt in terms of riding courses.
00:27:52 That was an ominous one, but we move on,
00:27:54 because this ride is looking good from Pavlo Timoshenko
00:27:57 as he takes a sharp right hand turn into 6 A and B.
00:28:03 This is good pace by Timoshenko, good control.
00:28:08 Moves past A and B.
00:28:11 That's a left hand turn into 7.
00:28:16 This is looking good from the Ukrainian.
00:28:20 Almost looked like it was going to be a refusal, but manages to get over.
00:28:25 Here we go, final two fences to go.
00:28:27 This could be a perfect score for Pavlo Timoshenko.
00:28:30 Is it going to be a perfect score?
00:28:32 And it is a perfect 300 from Pavlo Timoshenko.
00:28:37 No time penalties, no jumping penalties.
00:28:40 So a time of 1.03 gives him a score of 300 points.
00:28:44 Yeah, Pavlo Timoshenko solid as always, and in fifth place.
00:28:49 Keep an eye on Pavlo Timoshenko because he is looking on point here.
00:28:55 Up next, Jan Kuf of the Czech Republic, another very good rider.
00:29:00 And 16th in Ankara last season.
00:29:04 Silver medalist in Karo, European champion 2016.
00:29:07 He's picked up medals in this sport and is currently in fourth place.
00:29:11 A knockdown on obstacle one, and that straightaway drops him down to sixth place.
00:29:17 But Jan will be looking to put that behind him.
00:29:20 I think the issue was he was a bit off-center and he seems to be leaning more towards the right of the fence.
00:29:27 This could pose a problem later on in his course.
00:29:31 He's also pretty fast, but seems to be getting on well.
00:29:37 After that first knockdown over to 6A and B.
00:29:42 Yeah, it's a good recovery from Jan, who leans back heavily into 6A.
00:29:48 And left now towards 7 and then double obstacles 8A and 8B.
00:29:55 Last line into 7.
00:29:58 Oh no, he's clipped the back of the obstacle with the back of the heels of the horse.
00:30:03 So it's a 2.86 so far for Jan Kuf who drops more points.
00:30:09 His reins are a bit loose as well.
00:30:12 Oh dear, third knockdown then for Kuf.
00:30:16 And there you go, a 2.79 for Kuf.
00:30:21 Just to reflect on Mohamed Chabam, by the way, he's walking past our commentary position here.
00:30:33 Got a thumbs up, but is he going to stay in the competition?
00:30:39 Not sure, he's walking with the help of two other coaches.
00:30:42 So it doesn't look like it's amazing, but he is okay, he's walking.
00:30:45 That's a good sign.
00:30:48 Might have suffered a small injury, hopefully he's okay.
00:30:57 Here we go, we have three more athletes before we finish up this riding discipline here in Ankara.
00:31:04 Taisho Seto is next up in the arena.
00:31:07 Yeah, here we are then, into the top three as Mariam says.
00:31:10 And we are in the business end of things now.
00:31:13 Taisho Seto is making this an intriguing battle for third.
00:31:19 He's currently the highest ranked athlete.
00:31:21 It's quite slow and gingerly there through the back end of the course.
00:31:26 Yeah, it seems like he's having a bit of trouble controlling the horse there, but no penalties so far.
00:31:32 The horse doesn't seem like he's cooperating much.
00:31:36 Taisho Seto is looking really good for me, it has to be said.
00:31:39 Now, what you have to remember is this is the first time the athletes have ridden in the competition.
00:31:43 So they can look really good into the ride of the final and then they can come unstuck.
00:31:52 Yeah, so moving on to seven.
00:31:56 And it's a refusal, has to go back round and we attempt number seven.
00:32:02 He has to make sure he checks the horse with his reins and does so beautifully over 8a and b.
00:32:11 It's off to nine now.
00:32:13 Taisho Seto will get away with that one refusal if he manages to clear his final obstacle.
00:32:21 And he does, a 290 and some time penalties.
00:32:26 So it's going to be a 280.
00:32:28 They'll break away from everyone else.
00:32:50 There are some nervous people watching on the other team have come to have a look as well.
00:32:56 Taisho Seto, first time.
00:32:59 Trying to go clear here.
00:33:01 Real, real danger for the goal to check his service.
00:33:07 Push on.
00:33:12 He's in there, he's sticking the chain on his ankle, swinging the reins, clear two.
00:33:18 Yeah, that's sharp right.
00:33:20 Yeah.
00:33:21 It is, yeah, you need to steer your horse well while giving him the reassurance.
00:33:27 He needs to jump.
00:33:29 It was a bit deep there on number five, but manages to clear it.
00:33:34 His reins are a bit loose as well.
00:33:36 I'm not sure if that was done intentionally or not.
00:33:39 On to 6a and b, clears them.
00:33:43 This could be an exciting battle for goal to Fima just to carry on this performance.
00:33:50 Back into the horse and through the chain back to Seto.
00:33:53 Oh, nearly came unstuck there.
00:33:55 He's gone wild and looked a little bit broken.
00:33:59 Heading into 8a.
00:34:01 Away with him rather than confuse myself.
00:34:04 Now two to go.
00:34:06 And the checkmate, holding together.
00:34:08 One last obstacle to clear.
00:34:10 Oh, that's fine.
00:34:14 Well, in the end, it's just a 2a6.
00:34:19 It's not a chance for Seto.
00:34:21 It's not supposed to be.
00:34:23 And I think it's a real opportunity for natural goalie.
00:34:28 Yeah.
00:34:29 He's got half an ankle, I imagine, and he hasn't got his place in the Olympics secured.
00:34:36 This could be one of the most important rides of the entire competition.
00:34:40 Too much pressure.
00:34:42 This is probably one of his most important rides of his life.
00:34:45 Into one.
00:34:47 A bit of a nervy stutter into one, but through.
00:34:51 27 hits.
00:34:54 Cranking round.
00:34:56 Steady.
00:34:58 Refusal to three.
00:35:03 So, well, it's a close-up.
00:35:06 It does matter. Patrick has to try and recover here.
00:35:09 Yeah, that's...
00:35:11 Yeah, that's circling around.
00:35:23 Here we go.
00:35:25 Through five.
00:35:27 6a and b to come.
00:35:30 Starting to get into a bit of a rhythm.
00:35:34 Just now gets away with it through 6b.
00:35:36 It's heart in your mouth moment here.
00:35:38 It's heart in your mouth moment here for Patrick Dogg.
00:35:43 In the latter stages here of this course, he's had those two refusals.
00:35:47 Background towards nine.
00:35:50 It's been a good recovery this...
00:35:53 In towards nine.
00:35:54 Oh, and there's the refusal.
00:35:56 And that is elimination for Patrick Dogg.
00:36:01 And just when you thought it was going to be Patrick's day.
00:36:07 This is...
00:36:09 This is a turn of events.
00:36:12 It happened quickly and unexpectedly.
00:36:15 So many elite athletes out of this competition due to the ride.
00:36:21 This is a whole different story now for all the other athletes.
00:36:26 We're going to see confirmation of the results soon,
00:36:29 which will kind of let us know where things are in terms of standings.
00:36:33 Well, you've got a feel for Patrick Dogg.
00:36:35 I mean, he was in such a solid position heading into that ride.
00:36:41 And it's worst case scenario for Patrick Dogg.
00:36:44 In terms of the competition, it closes things up and it's...
00:36:47 Well, we're going to see the standings in a few minutes time.
00:36:50 Here they come then. Chang Wang Seo leads by six points.
00:36:54 Timoshenko in second place.
00:36:55 Toda Mikhailov in third.
00:36:56 Saito is in fourth place alongside him.
00:37:00 Hernandez now, who brings himself right back into the competition.
00:37:03 That's Moultas Mohammed, by the way.
00:37:05 Yankov in seventh.
00:37:06 Martin Vla... Martin Vla... in eighth place.
00:37:09 Watch out, everyone else.
00:37:10 Miles Pillage, who, by the way, only could manage a...
00:37:15 Was it a 2.86 for Pillage? No, it was a 2.93 for Pillage, wasn't it?
00:37:18 Cisnelli's there. Grich, Malan, El Gendi.
00:37:21 I mean, this is a really...
00:37:23 It's a curious situation, isn't it?
00:37:26 Because it's really hard to predict.
00:37:29 I feel a bit like I've had a sort of punch in the belly here.
00:37:34 We've lost some of the big athletes and they've mixed things up nicely.
00:37:38 Anyway, we're going to say...
00:37:40 I think those bottom athletes who've all gotten eliminated still have a point to prove.
00:37:44 I mean, every single spot they go higher up, they get better ranking points.
00:37:48 It is, of course, disappointing, especially for the leader, Patrick Dogg.
00:37:51 But, yeah.
00:37:52 All right. Let's come back to things in a moment's time.
00:37:56 We are going to take a break and we will be back after the highlights from the riding.
00:38:03 [MUSIC]
00:38:06 [MUSIC]
00:38:09 (upbeat music)
00:38:11 (upbeat music)
00:38:14 (upbeat music)
00:38:16 (upbeat music)
00:38:19 (upbeat music)
00:38:21 (upbeat music)
00:38:26 (upbeat music)
00:38:32 (upbeat music)
00:38:36 (upbeat music)
00:38:42 (upbeat music)
00:38:45 - So that concludes the ride
00:38:55 of this men's final here in Ankara.
00:38:58 Here's how things move from the riding arena
00:39:00 to the fencing bonus round.
00:39:02 Again, a very short walk.
00:39:04 We'll have 17 bouts here with 18 athletes.
00:39:09 One touch is equivalent to two extra points added
00:39:13 to their names.
00:39:14 And yeah, a couple of eliminations in the ride,
00:39:17 a couple of unexpected things here and there.
00:39:21 I've definitely mixed things up,
00:39:23 but again, the fencing bonus round will start
00:39:25 in accordance to the ranking round results.
00:39:28 So we are almost to the start of this fencing bonus round.
00:39:37 We have our lower ranked athletes
00:39:40 who will be of course starting first.
00:39:42 And we go from there.
00:39:44 Just checking their equipment,
00:39:46 making sure everything is in order.
00:39:48 Four minutes away to the start of the bonus round.
00:39:54 Don't go anywhere.
00:39:55 We have some exciting stuff coming your way.
00:39:58 I mean, this competition just opened up completely.
00:40:01 We have Patrick Dog out of the mix.
00:40:04 We have Hannah the Gimby out of the mix.
00:40:06 We have Mahannad Shaaban out of the mix.
00:40:08 It's really hard to say who's got a stronghold
00:40:12 on this competition yet.
00:40:14 Merrick Greach in your screen there.
00:40:18 He will be fencing first.
00:40:20 He'll be fencing against the German athlete Fabian Liebig,
00:40:24 who actually is in a good position as of now
00:40:29 to gain some valuable points.
00:40:33 And I don't know, maybe even climb up
00:40:35 to standing significantly.
00:40:36 I mean, we've seen him do it time and time again.
00:40:39 He's made it through to this final
00:40:41 by the skin of his teeth.
00:40:42 So wouldn't put anything past Fabian Liebig.
00:40:46 Same cannot be said for his teammate though.
00:40:49 Unfortunately, Patrick Dog was far ahead in the lead
00:40:53 with 27 victories in the ranking round.
00:40:57 But it was all gone after that ride and elimination.
00:41:02 Just, yeah, his dreams of gold here in Ankara
00:41:07 are no longer a reality.
00:41:11 But again, he will be still fighting
00:41:13 for those ranking points as we look at the athletes
00:41:18 still up and running in that fight
00:41:24 for the medals Emiliano Hernandez in your shot there.
00:41:26 Emiliano Hernandez actually doing quite well so far.
00:41:29 300 in the ride.
00:41:33 And we just got word now that Mohamed El-Kendi
00:41:36 will not be starting the bonus round.
00:41:37 It seems like he fell a bit too hard in the ride
00:41:41 and prayers go out to him.
00:41:44 Of course, we wish that he recovers and does well
00:41:49 and makes an appearance in Budapest next week.
00:41:53 You can see there in your shot as well,
00:41:55 I think that's Mohamed El-Kendi.
00:41:57 He also was eliminated from the ride.
00:42:00 He had a really good chance of a podium today,
00:42:02 but all was done after that elimination.
00:42:06 He will be continuing on in the competition though.
00:42:09 So he has to change pretty quickly.
00:42:14 Now to head over to the fencing bonus round, Piste.
00:42:17 - So Shaban out of the competition,
00:42:23 which is obviously we wish him the best
00:42:27 and bad news for him, but ultimately,
00:42:31 probably bigger fish for him to fry this year.
00:42:33 I mean, he's got to make sure he's healthy
00:42:35 because it's Olympic year.
00:42:36 He has got that place for Egypt
00:42:39 after winning World Cup final last year.
00:42:41 So he's not gonna wanna,
00:42:43 if he has got some form of injury,
00:42:46 he's not gonna wanna antagonize it in the battle for.
00:42:49 - His health is obviously the most important thing.
00:42:51 - It's not been Shaban's season so far, has it?
00:42:54 He's not had the luck he had last year.
00:42:57 I said luck, it wasn't luck that won him medals last year,
00:42:59 but it hasn't had the same results, has he?
00:43:02 - Yeah, he was soaring last year
00:43:04 and I think hasn't had the same start this year,
00:43:06 but again, it's still the beginning of the season.
00:43:08 We've only had two competitions so far.
00:43:10 - Will he be in Budapest?
00:43:11 - I'm not sure actually.
00:43:14 - Well, we'll see now, especially after,
00:43:15 we'll see what happens in this injury, won't we?
00:43:18 But also when you start to get bad results,
00:43:20 it starts to put the pressure on, doesn't it?
00:43:22 And then when there's pressure,
00:43:24 sometimes you start to see a different side to athletes.
00:43:29 It can happen, can't it?
00:43:30 When you're really pushing and needing those results,
00:43:33 it can have the opposite effect.
00:43:35 Anyway, we wish Mohamed the best of luck.
00:43:38 - Yeah, so we're about ready to start this bonus round.
00:43:42 Fabien Liebig is first up on the piste.
00:43:45 We'll be going against Martin Vlak,
00:43:48 who moved up the standings quite a bit after that ride.
00:43:52 He got a 300 and moved up into ninth place.
00:43:55 That's a significant jump for Martin Vlak.
00:43:58 He was 17th before the start of the ride and now he's ninth.
00:44:01 - All right, here we go then.
00:44:17 Underway with fencing bonus round.
00:44:21 Martin Vlak versus Fabien Liebig.
00:44:25 Martin Vlak, who has really moved up the standings,
00:44:30 and actually now I think is a good shout for a medal.
00:44:34 Liebig getting himself a little bit unstable on his feet.
00:44:38 Here we go, underway.
00:44:43 Into the final 10.
00:44:48 Double touch.
00:44:49 (announcer speaking in foreign language)
00:44:54 And Liebig gets the touch
00:45:03 and moves up a couple of places into 12th place.
00:45:07 - We say thank you to Martin for welcoming our next athlete.
00:45:11 Our next athlete, rank 16 for the ranking round,
00:45:14 representing Czechia, welcome to the piste.
00:45:17 - So, we welcome next up, Marek Grich.
00:45:26 Grich versus Liebig.
00:45:31 Would have had an all Czech battle there,
00:45:33 but Liebig spoiled the Czech party.
00:45:36 Can he spoil it again?
00:45:37 Grich versus Liebig.
00:45:39 Liebig is, of course, a World Cup medalist in Sofia 2019.
00:45:45 Two points to his name so far.
00:45:49 Grich will be looking to see if he can stop that.
00:45:52 20 seconds left on the clock now.
00:46:02 Liebig gets down low and picks up another victory.
00:46:07 It's two for Liebig.
00:46:09 - We say thank you to Mark and welcome our next athlete.
00:46:12 Our next athlete, rank 15 for the ranking round,
00:46:17 representing Egypt, welcome to the piste.
00:46:30 - So, Liebig up against Ahmed El-Ghandi.
00:46:35 Ahmed El-Ghandi, of course, eliminated from the ride.
00:46:38 He's drying off his footwear.
00:46:49 Sorry, no, it was Mohamed eliminated from the ride,
00:46:52 Ahmed, with a 2.86.
00:46:55 - El-Ghandi on the left for Egypt, has priority,
00:46:59 Liebig on the right for Germany, two victories.
00:47:01 - For a second there, I thought,
00:47:02 "Wow, Mohamed really does look like his brother."
00:47:04 But it's easy to mistake those two,
00:47:07 they do look so similar.
00:47:08 Mohamed El-Ghandi will come up later.
00:47:15 It's Ahmed El-Ghandi versus Fabian Liebig.
00:47:17 And still, Ahmed unhappy with...
00:47:24 His footwear.
00:47:26 You can't risk it if you've got some moisture
00:47:33 on your footwear and you slip and get an injury.
00:47:35 It's just not worth the risk.
00:47:37 So, Ahmed is hoping to get this underway quickly,
00:47:42 but he needs to make sure he does so safely.
00:47:50 - It's on the ground, not on my shoes.
00:47:55 - Sounds like he's laughing underneath that protective.
00:48:00 He's giving the piece a bit of a wipe as well,
00:48:04 I think there's a bit of moisture.
00:48:05 We did have a very heavy rainfall earlier.
00:48:07 So, he pops the towel back and we get back underway.
00:48:17 (shoes squeaking)
00:48:20 Taking matters into his own hands here.
00:48:22 Larry laughing beside me.
00:48:25 A reminder that there was a heavy downpour earlier.
00:48:31 We're back underway.
00:48:38 20 seconds to go.
00:48:41 Again, he tries to get down low.
00:48:46 And double touch with the halfway stage reached.
00:48:50 - That's a touch for Ahmed Ogunzi.
00:48:56 - Ogunzi gets the win and as you can see,
00:49:00 moves 43 points off the lead.
00:49:05 Chang Wang's a pretty quick swimmer as well, isn't he?
00:49:08 I think Chang Wang wins gold here.
00:49:09 I'm convinced it's Chang Wang's competition.
00:49:12 It would be his first World Cup gold medal, by the way.
00:49:15 - Yeah, he's in fine form to do so and really,
00:49:18 well, if he does get a gold medal,
00:49:21 it is very much deserved by him.
00:49:24 I mean, he's had a fantastic competition up till now.
00:49:27 I don't see why he wouldn't run his way back to gold.
00:49:32 First, let's focus on this competition at hand.
00:49:37 We have Myles Pillage up next.
00:49:40 Myles Pillage of Great Britain.
00:49:45 - Yeah, Pillage secured a 2.86 in the ride.
00:49:50 - Myles Pillage has priority on the right for Great Britain.
00:49:54 - Pillage.
00:49:54 Well, we're looking to end this competition well, won't he?
00:50:02 Up against the Olympic silver medalist here.
00:50:07 It's a good battle, this.
00:50:08 Ogunzi with one win to his name so far.
00:50:14 - Ogunzi's keen on that attack.
00:50:17 He has less than 10 seconds to go.
00:50:19 He goes for a duck, but it's a double touch at eight seconds.
00:50:22 Time priority goes to Myles Pillage.
00:50:27 - Pillage is in ninth place.
00:50:32 Only 38 points off the lead.
00:50:35 These points could be useful for both these athletes.
00:50:37 And Ogunzi gets the touch with less than three seconds to go.
00:50:43 - They're good friends, these athletes.
00:50:45 - They are, aren't they?
00:50:46 You can see it over their faces.
00:50:48 Well, Ogunzi's climbing and climbing.
00:50:51 If he can get within 30 points of the lead,
00:50:53 you'd back him, would you?
00:50:55 - I would, I mean, I went pretty fast.
00:50:58 And you're putting me on the spot, by the way.
00:50:59 I can't say no.
00:51:00 - Who wins gold at this point?
00:51:03 - Chang Wang Tseo.
00:51:05 I'm sorry, the statistics speak for themselves.
00:51:09 - Yeah, it's hard to look past Chang Wang Tseo.
00:51:12 Hopefully, Ahmed, my ex-fiance,
00:51:14 doesn't listen back to this commentary later.
00:51:17 Just kidding.
00:51:19 Okay, Ahmed El-Ghandi.
00:51:21 He's a good swimmer as well, isn't he?
00:51:24 - Yeah, he is.
00:51:24 - I think he's...
00:51:25 - Everyone's having trouble with this heavy downpour.
00:51:30 - Yeah, there was a heavy downpour today, wasn't there?
00:51:32 - Yeah, it causes a bit of a slippery fencing piece.
00:51:37 - Fencing piece.
00:51:38 - So just taking a moment to clean and dry those trainers.
00:52:06 This is taking a little more to progress
00:52:11 through this bonus round due to that technical issue
00:52:16 with the rain.
00:52:16 Seems like we might have to push back the swim as well.
00:52:23 But we're not there yet.
00:52:25 - Why would that be, then?
00:52:26 - 'Cause it's taking a bit more time for these athletes to...
00:52:29 - Well, yeah, they've gone swim and fence at the same time.
00:52:32 But I still think it would be a 10-minute transition,
00:52:35 wouldn't it, between fencing and swimming?
00:52:38 - Yeah, probably.
00:52:39 We'll see.
00:52:42 Anyways, back to...
00:52:43 - Nothing you can do about the weather.
00:52:45 - Yeah, nothing.
00:52:45 - Just a reminder, there was a heavy downpour earlier.
00:52:47 Of course, the competition was delayed.
00:52:52 - Yeah, Jojo Malan is next up.
00:52:56 On the piste.
00:53:03 Jojo Malan with 286 points in the ride.
00:53:08 Level on points with Ahmed Gindy in terms of the riding.
00:53:13 Some extra points here could go a long way
00:53:17 for both these athletes.
00:53:19 Ahmed Gindy tries to go for an attack.
00:53:20 I think he's going in too deep.
00:53:22 Tries to go down for a foot touch.
00:53:23 Doesn't get it.
00:53:25 Wants to take that parry into a six.
00:53:26 Goes for an eight.
00:53:30 I'm getting nervy here.
00:53:31 This is getting fast, and it is a foot touch.
00:53:35 It was a bit scrappy, but well done from Ahmed Gindy.
00:53:39 His third win up on this piste.
00:53:41 Think he'll be happy with that.
00:53:45 Actually, I saw that it was a bit scrappy,
00:53:51 but seeing the slow-mo back,
00:53:53 I think it was pretty intentional.
00:53:54 You can see the Egyptian coaches cheering him on.
00:53:59 Charlie Brown.
00:54:00 So Charlie Brown will have had to put the disappointment
00:54:06 of elimination behind him.
00:54:09 Usually a very happy chappy.
00:54:12 It's hard to read him at the moment.
00:54:13 I'm sure he's going to be still bitterly disappointed.
00:54:16 But he'll bounce back.
00:54:19 And what better way to do it
00:54:21 than with a victory on the fencing bonus round stage?
00:54:23 No pressure now really for Charlie Brown.
00:54:26 Well, again, he could do with the points.
00:54:27 He's already picked up six.
00:54:28 How far can he go with this?
00:54:29 If he can move to within 30 points.
00:54:32 So it's a little slip there from Al Gendhi
00:54:35 that possibly taking his concentration away a little bit.
00:54:38 Maybe back Charles Brown in this situation,
00:54:40 but no, Al Gendhi's on a charge.
00:54:43 It's four in a row for the Egyptian.
00:54:45 And he looks pumped, doesn't he?
00:54:47 And he's, well, still a few wins away
00:54:49 from getting within 30,
00:54:51 but he's moved up another place.
00:54:53 It's good fencing, isn't it?
00:54:55 Yeah, that's a pretty good fencing.
00:54:57 I think his timing's really good.
00:55:00 He waited for that attack from Charles Brown
00:55:02 and went down for a duck.
00:55:04 Difficulty is fiery.
00:55:09 Yeah, well, they've got to celebrate, haven't they?
00:55:11 Because they've had a few disappointments.
00:55:13 And here we go.
00:55:14 Wow, what about this is?
00:55:17 Mutez Mohammed versus Ahmed Al Gendhi.
00:55:21 It is the gold and silver medalists from Cairo.
00:55:24 It is the young up and coming Egyptian protégé
00:55:28 versus the Olympic silver medalists.
00:55:31 An all Egyptian bout.
00:55:33 And as far as subplot goes,
00:55:35 this is one I think we're all going to enjoy.
00:55:37 Maybe the Egyptian team will be a little bit calmer
00:55:40 and they can't take sides here, can they?
00:55:42 But this is going to be fun
00:55:44 to see how these two fare up against each other.
00:55:48 A smile on the face of Ahmed Al Gendhi.
00:55:50 Mutet wants to win this, doesn't he?
00:55:54 What's your prediction? Who's going to win it?
00:55:56 No predictions.
00:55:58 No comment.
00:55:59 That's unlike you. You love a prediction.
00:56:01 I hate predictions.
00:56:02 You push me for predictions all the time.
00:56:04 Ahmed Al Gendhi with four wins to his name so far.
00:56:06 This will take him to double figures,
00:56:07 which would be ten extra points to his score.
00:56:09 That would be significant.
00:56:12 Mutet Mohammed is looking to try and end this run.
00:56:15 He gets scrappy in the middle of 15 to go.
00:56:18 Who wins it? Is it the young protégé
00:56:21 or is it the more experienced silver medalist?
00:56:23 This is a great bout.
00:56:25 It's going into the final five seconds.
00:56:27 Al Gendhi versus Mohammed.
00:56:29 Double touch with three to go.
00:56:31 Al Gendhi knows he has to make contact
00:56:34 with these last few seconds of this fencing bout.
00:56:37 Three to go. Four wins for Al Gendhi.
00:56:40 Mohammed has to defend.
00:56:41 Al Gendhi has to attack into the final two seconds.
00:56:44 And Mohammed gets the job done
00:56:46 in what was the most exciting fencing
00:56:49 bonus round bout of the day so far.
00:56:52 That moves Mutet Mohammed up into fourth place.
00:56:55 Friends off the course, teammates off the course,
00:56:58 but fierce adversaries on the course.
00:57:01 Great fencing bonus round bout.
00:57:03 Yeah, these both of them were actually quite aggressive
00:57:06 in that bout.
00:57:07 It was in the end, Ahmed was pushed for time
00:57:10 and Mutet took that opportunity and done so very well indeed.
00:57:15 Mutet Mohammed, by the way,
00:57:17 is proving to be quite the athlete.
00:57:20 Form is important in the Olympic year.
00:57:23 And he is...
00:57:25 You know what? I think last year we kind of predicted
00:57:27 the two athletes that will be going to the Olympic Games
00:57:30 would be Ahmed El Gendhi and Mohamed El Chabah.
00:57:32 And now it's a bit harder to tell.
00:57:34 I mean, things can change.
00:57:37 Yeah, that's the thing.
00:57:37 Who would you put as third at the moment?
00:57:40 Mutet Mohammed, isn't it?
00:57:42 I know you want to pick Mohammed El Gendhi.
00:57:44 No, no, that's not why.
00:57:45 He's actually risen to the occasion time and time again.
00:57:49 I think he's just having a bit of bad luck
00:57:52 since the beginning of the season.
00:57:53 Yeah, but I'm basing it on form.
00:57:54 And Mutet Mohammed is a silver medalist in Cairo
00:57:57 and is by all accounts going to finish top five here.
00:57:59 You can't ignore that.
00:58:00 That is...
00:58:01 That's the thing.
00:58:02 It's a fierce debate happening here in Ankara.
00:58:04 It is going to be, I think,
00:58:07 a strong battle from all four of these athletes
00:58:10 trying to qualify.
00:58:12 We're putting Mariam under pressure here, by the way.
00:58:14 She has close connections with this Egyptian team.
00:58:17 But from an objective point of view...
00:58:20 From an objective point of view,
00:58:21 I think all four of them have a chance.
00:58:23 All right, here we go.
00:58:23 Are you ready for the bombshell?
00:58:24 I think Mutet Mohammed is the in-form Egyptian athlete
00:58:27 at the moment.
00:58:28 That's pretty harsh on Ahmed,
00:58:30 given that he got gold in Cairo.
00:58:33 You're not wrong.
00:58:33 I mean, Mutet Mohammed is putting on...
00:58:36 Well, he's playing with that young, enthusiastic...
00:58:42 "I'm not putting too much pressure on myself"
00:58:45 can take over the world attitude.
00:58:47 And it's dangerous.
00:58:48 It's dangerous for other athletes.
00:58:49 Yeah, he's extremely ambitious and young.
00:58:52 Oh, but listen, he could medal.
00:58:53 He could medal here.
00:58:54 He could.
00:58:54 That would be back-to-back medals.
00:58:56 I mean, it's...
00:58:57 Yeah, anyway, listen, let's see what happens.
00:58:58 It's Muttel, it's Ciccinelli versus Mutet Mohammed.
00:59:02 There you go.
00:59:02 Ciccinelli goes, "Listen, don't worry about them.
00:59:06 What about me?"
00:59:08 And the victory for Ciccinelli.
00:59:09 He puts him back in the top ten
00:59:11 and moves Ciccinelli 38 points off the lead.
00:59:13 It's all very close and tight.
00:59:14 This is good stuff.
00:59:15 I'm enjoying this final.
00:59:16 You're enjoying it a bit too much.
00:59:21 I'm sorry, I'll enjoy it less.
00:59:22 Obviously, some of the athletes have had disappointing days
00:59:28 with the eliminations.
00:59:29 This is sport, though, isn't it?
00:59:30 It is, yeah.
00:59:31 It's stories of success mirrored by stories of disappointment.
00:59:35 You're only ever going to have one truly happy athlete
00:59:38 and there is only one gold medal to hand out.
00:59:40 Could it be this man here?
00:59:41 Emiliano Hernandez, Pan American champion,
00:59:46 world championship silver medalist,
00:59:49 brother of an Olympic bronze medalist.
00:59:53 But that is certainly not how he is defining his career.
00:59:57 Could Emiliano go one better or even more than his brother did?
01:00:01 We'll find out.
01:00:03 Ciccinelli versus Hernandez.
01:00:06 Hernandez lining himself up now to try and get his first fencing
01:00:10 bonus round win.
01:00:11 Ciccinelli has got such long reach, hasn't he?
01:00:14 He is extremely aggressive now.
01:00:16 He needs to make a move and he does it.
01:00:19 Another touch for Ciccinelli.
01:00:22 Yeah, I guess after Ciccinelli with a couple of points there
01:00:24 and that moves him up to eighth place.
01:00:26 Hernandez, 26 seconds of lead.
01:00:28 Martin Black, by the way, is in ninth place.
01:00:31 Martin Black is OK.
01:00:33 I'm going to make some predictions.
01:00:35 Why not?
01:00:36 Chang Meng takes gold, Black takes silver.
01:00:39 And bronze. Emiliano.
01:00:41 Sorry, Ahmed, maybe.
01:00:43 Yeah, listen, you know what?
01:00:44 We'll just have to wait and see.
01:00:46 You just have to win one bad shoot.
01:00:48 It's all it takes.
01:00:50 I know we're getting way ahead of ourselves to swim together,
01:00:52 but we know what's going to happen after the swim, don't we?
01:00:54 Chang Meng is going to keep sort of he's not going to lose too much ground.
01:00:57 Emiliano is not going to gain too much ground.
01:00:59 Chang Meng, we said Chang Meng, sorry.
01:01:02 Ahmed's going to gain a bit of ground.
01:01:03 Moultaz is going to gain as well.
01:01:04 Moultaz is going to gain.
01:01:05 This is going to be brilliant.
01:01:07 In some ways for the excitement of the competition,
01:01:10 you don't want Chang Meng to pick up any more points
01:01:12 because it just makes for an exciting final.
01:01:14 I want them all to win gold.
01:01:16 Matteo Cicinelli with three wins to his name.
01:01:18 Toto Michalev, we've not spoken about enough in this competition.
01:01:21 He's having a really, really good final, a really good competition here
01:01:25 and a top five finish for Toto Michalev.
01:01:28 Yeah, he's one of those athletes that work in the background.
01:01:32 He finishes almost always in the top ten and not talked about enough.
01:01:38 But very consistent.
01:01:40 I think he could end up at the Games.
01:01:42 Yeah, definitely.
01:01:45 He's in for a good chance.
01:01:47 I don't think he's going to medal here, though.
01:01:49 Who knows? He's not got the best legs.
01:01:51 Anyway, we'll see.
01:01:54 We just don't know what he's been working on behind the scenes.
01:01:55 He's been working very close with his coach.
01:01:58 And double touch.
01:02:00 Cicinelli looking to make it six points on three wins.
01:02:03 Ahmed El-Ghandi had four wins earlier.
01:02:08 Cicinelli makes it three.
01:02:09 He's pumped, isn't he?
01:02:10 Yeah, Cicinelli's moving up.
01:02:13 And look, it's not about just about winning medals here.
01:02:18 It's nice to win a medal, but finishing fourth is great pentathlon points.
01:02:22 So I think fourth place at any point in the season is something
01:02:28 you'd probably be happier with in another previous season.
01:02:31 So we continue with this conversation.
01:02:46 We welcome on the brother of Ahmed,
01:02:55 Mohammed El-Ghandi.
01:02:58 Phil from Ahmed. He's a lovely lad.
01:03:02 And he got his elimination in the ride.
01:03:05 And if he didn't, you'd be talking about him being a definite medal
01:03:08 prospect at this point.
01:03:10 Very quick footed as a fencer.
01:03:12 Quite difficult to predict.
01:03:15 Cicinelli gets down low.
01:03:18 Good defense that from El-Ghandi, but it wasn't good enough.
01:03:21 Cicinelli finds a way through.
01:03:23 Cicinelli's really starting to make an impact here.
01:03:28 Yeah, he's on a roll.
01:03:30 What do we fancy of Cicinelli's chances here?
01:03:31 Let's start talking about him as a medal prospect.
01:03:33 Eighth at World Cup final here last year.
01:03:36 Can he go better than that, do we think?
01:03:37 You know what, Cicinelli is, well his downfall again isn't his running.
01:03:42 It's his shooting.
01:03:43 He's had issues in the past and semifinals especially.
01:03:47 He almost dropped out of those top nine a couple of times
01:03:50 due to his shoot, so.
01:03:54 Yeah, so the next athlete that was supposed to be up on the piece
01:03:58 is Mohamed Chaban.
01:03:58 He's, of course, not continuing in the competition.
01:04:01 We wish him well as we welcome the next athlete up.
01:04:05 And it is Pavlo Timoshenko of the Ukraine.
01:04:07 Yeah, just a reminder that Mohamed Chaban has withdrawn
01:04:13 from the competition after being eliminated.
01:04:21 From the riding, so we wish Mohamed the best of luck and a safe recovery.
01:04:28 Can you?
01:04:29 So actually, we've just heard that Mohamed Chaban hasn't officially withdrawn
01:04:44 from the competition, he's just not taken part in the fencing.
01:04:47 So more to come on that.
01:04:51 Mariam's digging away and messaging her Egyptian contacts
01:04:54 and trying to find out a little bit of info.
01:04:58 Let's see if we can find out what's happened to Mohamed.
01:05:09 Meanwhile, it's a.
01:05:14 And to the final 20 seconds.
01:05:17 And Timoshenko, I thought it.
01:05:26 It's not a touch, not a touch.
01:05:32 And it's a.
01:05:35 And it's a.
01:05:37 And it's a.
01:05:40 It's not a touch, not a touch.
01:05:43 Here we go on the way to Chinaly with four wins to his name.
01:05:55 Timoshenko is defeated.
01:05:57 He's not happy.
01:05:59 He's not happy.
01:06:00 Timoshenko is not pleased with that, but Chinaly gets the win
01:06:15 and makes it ten victories.
01:06:18 He celebrated that one.
01:06:20 Mariam has some news on the Chaban.
01:06:23 Yeah, he's we're going to have an interview with him between
01:06:26 the fencing bonus round and the swimming event.
01:06:28 That's for the highlights.
01:06:29 So just in case you wanted to tell us for this live show.
01:06:32 He's OK, though.
01:06:33 He's OK. That's this night.
01:06:34 Our next rally, ranked number four for the ranking round,
01:06:42 representing Czechia.
01:06:44 Welcome to the beast.
01:06:45 Yonko.
01:06:46 Matteo Chinaly, five victories.
01:06:52 So Chichinelli on a roll here versus Koeff and it's six victories
01:07:04 for Chichinelli.
01:07:05 This is unbelievable for Chichinelli now picking up 12 points.
01:07:12 And we'll say thank you to Yonko and welcome our next athlete.
01:07:15 Matteo Chichinelli on a roll.
01:07:19 Six victories, 12 seconds in the laser run.
01:07:22 So Saito is next up.
01:07:30 Chichinelli is looking unstoppable at the moment.
01:07:33 Ranking number three for the ranking round, representing Japan.
01:07:36 Welcome to the beast.
01:07:43 Taichung.
01:07:48 Taichung Saito.
01:07:49 So Saito looking to stop Chichinelli.
01:07:55 Chichinelli versus Saito.
01:08:03 Chichinelli with six victories to his name so far.
01:08:05 Saito in good form here in Ankara and gets the touch and defeats Chichinelli.
01:08:09 Saito over the moon with that.
01:08:15 But Chichinelli leads with six victories, 12 seconds.
01:08:19 Well done, Matteo.
01:08:20 And we'll welcome our next athlete.
01:08:23 Our next athlete, rank number two for the ranking list, representing Korea.
01:08:32 Welcome to the beast, Changhwan Seo.
01:08:36 Seo on the left in Korea has priority.
01:08:43 So Saito with his customary celebration.
01:08:47 And he's now up against the one and only Changhwan Seo.
01:08:54 Things are really heating up here.
01:08:57 Saito versus Seo.
01:09:00 Could Saito make his way?
01:09:02 Oh, a slip from Saito. I hope he's okay.
01:09:04 Oh, that was a sore one.
01:09:06 And this is why it's so important to have dry footwear and a dry piece,
01:09:11 because that can...
01:09:13 I think he's okay.
01:09:14 I think he's okay, but that could be a bruise.
01:09:16 It's just those little things that can make a difference to your competition.
01:09:19 He's understandably requesting that it's dried.
01:09:22 The ongoing challenges these athletes have to go through is insane.
01:09:31 But again, it's all part of the sport.
01:09:34 Saito back on track.
01:09:43 He's aggressive, but Changhwan Seo is ready for that.
01:09:47 Good touch from Changhwan Seo and proves his 25 victories to be not a fluke.
01:09:52 Changhwan Seo adds to his collection.
01:09:54 Moves eight point clear of Timoshenko.
01:09:56 And now Patrick Dogg will be hoping to do the rest of the field a favor, won't he?
01:10:01 Because if he is able to defeat Saito, it means Saito is further ahead.
01:10:08 And I think Saito probably deep down is feeling like this could well be his competition.
01:10:26 Patrick Dogg calling for the crowd.
01:10:32 And he's still pumped even though he got that elimination.
01:10:37 He's very much a feel-good sort of guy, isn't he?
01:10:43 Very, very popular.
01:10:45 Popular and likes to stay positive.
01:10:47 Look at him, he's focused here.
01:10:49 Fenced the fencing rank around of his life.
01:10:52 And looking to pick up four extra points.
01:10:54 Patrick Dogg versus Changhwan Seo.
01:10:59 And there is the touch from Saito who makes it a maximum four points.
01:11:05 And Saito now moves ten points ahead of Timoshenko.
01:11:09 One thing I'll say for sure, Saito is walking away from a medal here.
01:11:13 And I challenge anyone to say otherwise.
01:11:15 I think the color could well be gold.
01:11:17 But listen, still plenty of twists and turns to go.
01:11:20 As the German team watches on.
01:11:24 It's good that he's still in good spirits after that ride.
01:11:27 Again, he knows that's part of the sport and part of the risk you take competing at such a high level.
01:11:36 So those are the scores then after the fencing.
01:11:44 Changhwan Seo ten points ahead of Timoshenko.
01:11:48 I'm going to leave you in the hands of Mariam to describe things.
01:11:51 And we'll be back with an interview with Mahala Chabana in a moment's time.
01:11:54 But Mariam, over to you.
01:11:56 Yeah, so some interesting changes in terms of standings for all these athletes.
01:12:01 I mean, a lot of people jumped up the standings after that riding.
01:12:04 A couple of people with some perfect points as Maric Gritsch and Vlach.
01:12:13 And so jumped up those standings and in with a chance for a medal.
01:12:17 But first, let's take a look back at the highlights of the fencing bonus round.
01:12:21 Don't go anywhere.

01:16:55 All right, listen, glad you're okay, and best of luck obviously for Budapest.
01:16:59 Thank you for joining us.
01:17:00 Thank you.
01:17:01 Thank you so much.
01:17:01 I'm sure we're all absolutely thrilled to find out that Mohamed Chaben is absolutely
01:17:07 okay, and that's the most important thing he said he'll take a couple days to recuperate
01:17:12 before heading to Budapest for the third World Cup of the season.
01:17:16 And this season is definitely not over yet, but he will be cheering on
01:17:21 for his Egyptian friends Mouaz Mahamed and Ahmed Gimli who are still in the running.
01:17:24 And could put on a pretty good score here as we take a look at Matteo Cicinelli.
01:17:32 Matteo Cicinelli had a good run in the Fencing Bonus Round Piste,
01:17:35 and he's a quick swimmer as well, so expect him to move up the standings.
01:17:39 Matteo Cicinelli will be swimming in heat number two, so we won't be seeing him just yet.
01:17:48 We will of course start with the first heat.
01:17:50 The first heat will feature six athletes and they've all had eliminations in the ride,
01:17:57 except for Meric Gric and Giorgio Milan, Patrick Dogg, Mohamed Higginby, Charles Brown
01:18:04 and Mohamed Chaben who will not be continuing on this competition.
01:18:08 So only five athletes of this heat number one.
01:18:12 Charlie Brown there I'm sure was not happy with that elimination,
01:18:19 but again it's give and take with modern pentathlon and one day you learn and one day
01:18:24 you're on top.
01:18:26 But here are your five athletes competing in heat number one.
01:18:30 Mohamed Chaben in lane number six will not be continuing on the competition.
01:18:34 Meric Gric in lane number one, Giorgio Milan in lane number two, Patrick Dogg in three,
01:18:38 Mohamed Higginby in four and Charles Brown in lane number five.
01:18:43 We welcome the judges and officials up to the pool now
01:18:49 and we will shortly be introducing the athletes one by one as they come up.
01:18:55 Here you go in your shot there.
01:19:01 Meric Gric swimming in lane number one.
01:19:04 Meric Gric is seventh in the World Cup final in 2022 and bronze in the 2020 under 24 European champs.
01:19:13 Meric Gric.
01:19:22 From the Czech Republic his teammate of course Martin Black will be starting further ahead in
01:19:30 the competition. He's starting in ninth but of course we still have the swim to go.
01:19:35 And swimming lane number two Giorgio Milan of Italy.
01:19:41 He's currently at the bottom of the athletes who made it through the ride.
01:19:47 The unfortunate event of Ankara.
01:19:54 Patrick Dogg has been eliminated from the ride but will continue on his competition
01:19:59 trying to gain some of those valuable ranking points.
01:20:02 As well as Mohamed Higginby who will be swimming in lane number four also eliminated in the ride.
01:20:09 We thought we would have seen him up there on the podium today but again a bit of bad luck here and there.
01:20:15 A bit of bad luck for Charlie Brown as well wasn't it?
01:20:18 A bit of bad luck.
01:20:19 Yeah Charlie Brown a very accomplished athlete this year.
01:20:25 I mean he's taken strides in his career past couple of years and
01:20:29 started the season out with a gold in the Budapest Open.
01:20:32 So those are the athletes then competing in this first of three swimming heats.
01:20:45 So
01:20:51 straight down the eye of the needle looking head on to our six athletes.
01:21:02 The pool very still and tranquil.
01:21:05 Five athletes of course because Shaban withdrew from the competition.
01:21:13 The world number one out of the competition.
01:21:17 So into the pool we go with heat number one.
01:21:24 Patrick Dogg is looking good here in the pool but it is
01:21:30 Giorgio Milan who's taking an early lead of this race.
01:21:33 They're pretty much all together now.
01:21:35 It is the first 25 meters.
01:21:38 This is looking fast from Giorgio Milan.
01:21:43 He does have the quickest time within those top five athletes.
01:21:49 28 seconds in the first 50 meters.
01:21:55 This is looking quick and just to his right there,
01:21:59 Marek Gric is closely behind him.
01:22:02 So Giorgio Milan going well here as we would expect.
01:22:12 It could be close to the two minute mark as you approach the halfway point.
01:22:17 It is sub one minute.
01:22:19 Solid time this from Milan.
01:22:20 Gric in second place.
01:22:22 Charlie Brown in third.
01:22:25 We are approaching the next turn and there's very little in it between these athletes.
01:22:32 Giorgio Milan so much pace in the pool.
01:22:34 Flying through the field.
01:22:37 Good to see him in final action here and getting his moment.
01:22:42 In the spotlight here as he leads this first swimming heat.
01:22:48 Giorgio Milan 10th in world championships.
01:22:52 Seventh in Budapest.
01:22:55 Bronze in Ankara.
01:22:59 From 2022.
01:23:05 So he's already picked up medals in Ankara before and is flying through the field and
01:23:13 making his way on these fast last few strokes.
01:23:16 It's going to be over two minutes but not by much.
01:23:19 And let's say 201.56 from Giorgio Milan.
01:23:26 Second place is Charlie Brown with Marek Gric coming home in third.
01:23:32 But I can't contain my excitement for this final.
01:23:46 I mean, laser run's got to be incredible to watch.
01:23:49 I know it is, isn't it?
01:23:50 It's gonna be hell for the athletes but it's gonna be incredible for us.
01:23:53 I feel Ankara lends itself to good races as well because there's so much that just...
01:24:00 Yeah, twists and turns.
01:24:01 I mean, you've got three different surfaces on the laser run.
01:24:04 Athletes sometimes say if the sun is setting it can be difficult to get your vision for
01:24:09 the laser shooting range but of course it isn't sunny today so that won't be an issue.
01:24:14 But it just feels like there's a lot more elements that can catch athletes out.
01:24:20 You get those good runs through the back of the forest as well.
01:24:23 These are the scores then after the first swimming heat.
01:24:25 Giorgio Milan top of the pile with a seven point advantage over Marek Gric.
01:24:29 And then there is the list of, well, athletes with Patrick Dogg eliminated of course.
01:24:36 So next up it is Kuf, Csikszentmihalyi, Glack, Agandí, Pilic and Liebig.
01:24:54 Jankov from the Czech Republic.
01:24:57 He's seventh overall now and he's could be one of those athletes finishing up on the podium.
01:25:08 Top six maybe.
01:25:09 Mateo Csikszentmihalyi is next.
01:25:15 Swimming in lane number four, representing Egypt, Ahmed Al-Gandhi, Olympic silver medalist.
01:25:41 You can see everyone in the background just watching quietly.
01:25:44 I think the nerves are really kicking in as these athletes make their way up.
01:25:49 Miles Pilic swimming in lane number five.
01:25:52 We should see a battle between Miles Pilic, Ahmed Al-Gandhi and Mateo Csikszentmihalyi in the pool.
01:25:57 Fabien Liebig, silver medalist, bronze.
01:26:03 Just double check, that's actually a comment.
01:26:05 It's still from a bronze medal that he picked up in Sofia. It was bronze in Sofia 2019.
01:26:12 Launched himself onto the scene.
01:26:15 There you go, there's your athletes and for Swimming Heat 2, Jankov, Mateo Csikszentmihalyi,
01:26:20 Martin Glack, Ahmed Al-Gandhi, Miles Pilic and Fabien Liebig will enter the pool for Swimming Heat 2.
01:26:28 It's cold out there.
01:26:33 It is. It's chilly in here and we're not at the block at the pool.
01:26:39 Yeah, I think the water temperature, which is a little bit murky, the water after the heavy
01:26:44 downpour we had earlier, I think it's going to be cold and a bit of a shock jumping in that pool, isn't it?
01:26:50 Here we go then. Silence.
01:26:57 And off we go. The arena explodes into life.
01:27:03 I think everyone learned their lesson after that disqualification, I mean, 10 second penalty from
01:27:10 Dallenbach in the semifinals. He kind of wobbled on the block and it cost him 10 seconds.
01:27:17 Take a look back at this heat. Miles Pilic is currently leading this pack in lane number five.
01:27:26 He should put in the quickest swim of the day.
01:27:31 Chichen Itza and Ahmed Al-Gandhi are close by as well.
01:27:33 Pilic is gonna really gonna try and push, I think, as fast as he can here.
01:27:38 As Samariam said, we've got some quick swimmers in the pool. Chichen Itza,
01:27:41 Pilic and Al-Gandhi will be battling for that top spot.
01:27:45 Pilic is pulling away.
01:27:47 Pilic just looks like he sort of climbs through the water, doesn't he?
01:27:50 He really gets so much.
01:27:53 Yeah, it does look, he almost looks effortless, doesn't that?
01:27:55 I'm not gonna show you it's not effortless, but it's 56 seconds for that first 100 meters.
01:28:00 This is gonna be sub two minutes, I'm confident of it.
01:28:02 So it is Pilic leading the way in the second swimming heat.
01:28:10 Could Pilic be an outside chance for Ahmed Al-Gandhi?
01:28:13 We know he's got a good laser one as well.
01:28:16 Could Pilic maybe?
01:28:17 You know what, this group is really hard to pick out six athletes who are gonna make it to the top.
01:28:23 I mean, it's all about the race and the conditions of the race.
01:28:26 We'll just know when we get there.
01:28:28 Miles Pilic, final 50 meters.
01:28:31 This is gonna be a quick time from Miles Pilic, Mateo Cicinelli in second and Ahmed Al-Gandhi in third.
01:28:38 This is what the field is looking like as of now.
01:28:43 Miles Pilic is pulling away more and more as we get closer to the end of this race.
01:28:48 Pilic in the final few stages here.
01:28:52 Sub two, sub two?
01:28:53 Definitely sub two.
01:28:53 I think it's probably gonna be a 1.59 just about.
01:28:58 Yeah, 1.59.11, the best swim we've had so far here in Ankara, Turkey for this whole competition.
01:29:04 Cicinelli in second place, Al-Gandhi in third.
01:29:08 And Pilic would have made up some good time there.
01:29:12 I think Pilic would probably be definitely in a top 10 position heading into the laser run.
01:29:20 How far up he goes.
01:29:23 We will see.
01:29:23 He will have potentially snuck above Ahmed Al-Gandhi.
01:29:29 He's got some big runners there, haven't they?
01:29:32 Vlak has lost 20 seconds on Miles Pilic in that swim.
01:29:37 This is where, because it was a around 10 seconds slower, I think, wasn't it?
01:29:40 Vlak, I haven't actually seen the official time yet.
01:29:42 I'm assuming that was the difference between them.
01:29:44 It could have even been more to be fair.
01:29:46 Because obviously every second is two points, isn't it?
01:29:48 So Vlak is gonna have his work cut out.
01:29:51 Yeah, Fabian Liebig also lost a bit of time in the pool.
01:29:54 And looking down on Heat 3, I see a couple of athletes who are gonna lose a bit of time.
01:29:58 But before that, let's have a look at the scores then.
01:30:00 So I'm more interested in Vlak.
01:30:02 So Vlak swam a 2.91, Pilic a 3.12 in terms of points.
01:30:08 So look at that.
01:30:09 That is 21 points that Vlak has lost in comparison to Pilic.
01:30:14 And that puts Pilic in provisional second place.
01:30:17 Which means the worst that Pilic could be is eighth heading into
01:30:21 the third heat.
01:30:23 But this is where things really get exciting with our final heat of swimming.
01:30:31 And yeah, the fastest swimming heat was definitely Heat 2.
01:30:34 These are the athletes in Heat 3.
01:30:36 Tseo Timoshenko, Mikhailov, Saito, Muhammad and Hernandez.
01:30:42 Timoshenko, Mikhailov are gonna drop down after this.
01:30:44 Yeah, true that.
01:30:46 Montez might make up a few spots with this.
01:30:49 So we'll just have to wait and see.
01:30:52 Chang'an Tseo is up first.
01:30:54 He is the current leader of this men's final so far.
01:30:59 Pavlo Timoshenko makes his way.
01:31:09 So the medalist of course from Riyadh, Todor Mikhailov.
01:31:17 Making his way out onto the swimming arena.
01:31:22 He's gonna lose some time here, Todor.
01:31:23 But let's see if he can close on the back of the laser.
01:31:26 Taishe Saito is looking pumped.
01:31:28 You know, Taishe Saito has that energy.
01:31:30 It's unmatched.
01:31:31 Oh, it's brilliant energy, isn't it?
01:31:33 He really pumps himself up.
01:31:34 He does.
01:31:35 He pumps us up.
01:31:36 He does.
01:31:37 Moultaz Muhammad, I think he's looking a little bit nervous there.
01:31:40 Because he's got himself in a good position here.
01:31:43 Moultaz Muhammad looking to try and get himself on the podium for a second consecutive event.
01:31:50 Emiliano Hernandez.
01:31:51 Dangerous from that position as well.
01:31:53 He's got to try and swim as quick as he can.
01:31:55 Because, yeah, I think we've got some interesting battles that will happen.
01:32:00 One of these athletes will take the gold.
01:32:03 Who it is, we'll find out.
01:32:04 Chang'an Tseo looking in a very good position.
01:32:06 But it's a battle for second and third that is also keeping us gripped.
01:32:10 Yeah, this is the final heat.
01:32:13 After this heat, we will conclude the swim and move over to the ever exciting laser run.
01:32:18 We certainly will.
01:32:19 There we go.
01:32:21 There are your six highest ranked athletes here in Ankara, Turkey in the men's individual final thus far.
01:32:30 But that will mix up.
01:32:31 Timoshenko, Mikhailov and Arkady Kuznetsov.
01:32:35 Three slower swimmers compared to the swimmers in heat two.
01:32:39 Here we go.
01:32:41 Primed and ready to go.
01:32:43 In to the pool are six highest ranked athletes go.
01:32:47 Making their way to the turn.
01:33:03 Pretty neck and neck so far, as you'd expect.
01:33:10 Chang'an Tseo is looking good form here and he can put in a good time.
01:33:15 I mean, he'll maintain his position.
01:33:17 A 2.05 for Tseo would be good.
01:33:19 Muhtasim Mohamed slightly ahead.
01:33:22 Tolu Mahalev maybe surprising a few here.
01:33:25 Putting together a solid first 50 meters.
01:33:30 It's all about longevity swimming though.
01:33:32 Muhtasim Mohamed is a little bit faster than Chang'an Tseo.
01:33:40 We'll see this put times at the halfway mark now.
01:33:42 As these athletes come to the wall.
01:33:47 There's the turn then.
01:33:49 So Muhtasim Mohamed still leads Chang'an Tseo in second.
01:33:51 And it's now Emiliano Hernandez who's moved up into third place.
01:33:55 I'll say this is the top three we expected with the halfway stage of the race having been achieved.
01:34:02 I can't wait to see that leaderboard by the way.
01:34:04 Muhtasim Mohamed in vision right now.
01:34:07 So approaching the penultimate turn and we will see what the gaps are.
01:34:19 Muhtasim Mohamed still leads nearly a full second ahead of Chang'an Tseo.
01:34:24 Emiliano Hernandez around the same distance back as he was at the last split times.
01:34:29 So there is Muhtasim Mohamed navigating his way through the pool.
01:34:34 A final turn.
01:34:36 This is looking quick for Muhtasim Mohamed.
01:34:39 It's going to be a time of around a 2.05.
01:34:42 Yeah here we go then.
01:34:45 Final push for these athletes.
01:34:48 Muhtasim Mohamed is giving this absolutely everything.
01:34:51 A 2.02 for Mohamed is a super score for him.
01:34:55 Chang'an Tseo as we said the 2.05 would be good for him which is what he's achieved.
01:34:59 Hernandez a 2.07.
01:35:01 Three pretty quick swims there.
01:35:03 Muhtasim Mohamed though with a very quick swim.
01:35:06 He's going to be delighted with that especially given that it's a slow pool as well.
01:35:10 Muhtasim Mohamed is going to be another prospect you feel for a medal here in Ankara
01:35:20 to follow on from his silt medal in Cairo.
01:35:25 Could he even go one better?
01:35:27 We'll find out shortly.
01:35:28 Muhtasim Mohamed is looking like an athlete without any weight on his shoulders.
01:35:32 No pressure on this young athlete's shoulders.
01:35:35 It's not expected for him to qualify for the Olympic Games.
01:35:38 Who knows?
01:35:39 Strange things have happened.
01:35:40 If he continues winning medals it's going to be hard to look past.
01:35:45 All right let's have a look at the standings then.
01:35:47 Chang'an Tseo is top by some distance.
01:35:53 23 points.
01:35:54 Muhtasim Mohamed is in second place ahead of Pavlo Timoshenko.
01:35:58 Chichen Eli is in fourth.
01:36:01 Khalev is holding on nicely in fifth place.
01:36:05 Myles Pillage has moved up into sixth.
01:36:07 He's just now six points off a medal position.
01:36:12 Emilio Hernandez is there or thereabouts as well.
01:36:15 Listen I think Chang'an Tseo is looking pretty solid here and will take some beating.
01:36:20 I can't see past Chang'an Tseo winning this bout but there is going to be an almighty battle for those silver and bronze.
01:36:29 Look at the Czech athletes 11, 12, 13.
01:36:32 They're gonna have a battle on their own.
01:36:34 Well Martin Vlach was there putting his running shoes on behind me but I think Vlach could fly through the field as well.
01:36:39 We'll take a look at the standings in a moment's time but let's just take a pause.
01:36:43 Look back at the swimming highlights then we'll move on to the ladies one in a moment's time.
01:36:48 Stay you're gonna drink you're gonna drink.

01:37:29 includes the swimming here and men's final it is super saturday we have our
01:37:34 three winners from the women this morning and
01:37:37 find out shortly where three winners are but first let's look
01:37:41 take a look at how things move from the pool to the laser run
01:37:48 second walk
01:37:55 four targets five green lights in order to progress to the next stage of your
01:38:00 race
01:38:02 as always
01:38:04 the first one over the line
01:38:07 the winner
01:38:09 was friends of rice and the women who will take gold
01:38:13 in the men's will found out soon the athletes and coaches are making their
01:38:17 way across the field
01:38:19 to the laser arena
01:38:23 james and taxes out in the field as well
01:38:26 trying to get you guys closer to the live action here in anchora
01:38:30 we've had uh... some strange weather here and uh...
01:38:33 pushed the competition back a couple hours but
01:38:36 has been good so far
01:38:40 all of the disciplines are now
01:38:43 and just a bit too more to go to laser on
01:38:46 running and shooting
01:38:49 and uh... we've had some dramatic uh... ups and downs
01:38:53 with the men's final especially we've had four eliminations
01:38:57 mhannad shahban will not be continuing the competition
01:39:00 some uh...
01:39:02 athletes we expected to be up on
01:39:04 the podium
01:39:05 uh... will unfortunately not make it today but uh...
01:39:10 close things down nicely between the top ten athletes and we should be seeing
01:39:15 some quick
01:39:16 quick races after the can be in your shot there
01:39:20 the shooting arena he is currently
01:39:23 starting and uh...
01:39:25 nine thirty eight i believe will get confirmation
01:39:28 on the results shortly miles pillage
01:39:30 also within that same range
01:39:33 he's too happy to have a a good shot of being up there on the podium yesterday
01:39:37 the egyptian coach in your shot there
01:39:41 he's uh...
01:39:43 still got to have beats and the mix of things he has a lot of indian markets
01:39:47 from a lot of comment is of course starting
01:39:50 in second place which is uh... absolutely phenomenal for my mean
01:39:53 he's one of the quickest runners out there i mean
01:39:56 when i say that
01:39:57 he entire field is that super quick
01:39:59 what does the hummus is uh...
01:40:01 was just something else in carter this year when he picked up dot silver
01:40:06 and now we're just waiting to see
01:40:08 how things unfold here in ankara
01:40:11 they would teach an alley
01:40:12 starting in fourth place moved up quite nicely after that swim
01:40:16 and uh... couple extra bonus points
01:40:18 on people in some peace
01:40:21 today have uh... definitely helped his case where
01:40:24 just under ten minutes ago to the start of this laser and is the athletes
01:40:28 prep themselves get their numbers on their kids
01:40:35 some shooting routines and
01:40:38 before the start of the laser on
01:40:40 this is uh...
01:40:42 the nurse kind of kicking for these updates
01:40:44 they have to focus on the shooting that's the most important part of
01:40:47 everything i mean
01:40:48 running you've already done your part
01:40:51 within your pcs in
01:40:54 and so it's all about that focus in
01:40:57 keeping your nerves under control charlie brown and how much
01:41:01 begin the cross paths
01:41:03 advocate their both these athletes have been eliminated from the right but they
01:41:06 will be competing against each other
01:41:10 in terms of a ranking points
01:41:13 for athletes of course are uh...
01:41:15 eliminated as we said
01:41:17 patrick dot com for a good thing
01:41:19 and it's not been and charlie brown
01:41:21 and just out of your shot there was a good thing
01:41:24 bobby and the big is uh...
01:41:26 currently in fourteenth place
01:41:28 drop down a bit after that's when he's uh... not the quickest of swimmers but
01:41:31 we know how fast you can run
01:41:39 begins he makes his way
01:41:41 to the shooting range
01:41:44 and we go to change in the field with an interview
01:41:48 trackside with the rebecca liner becky thank you for joining us all reflects
01:41:52 that firstly
01:41:53 on german athletes uh...
01:41:55 seems obviously solid patrick doesn't i mean
01:41:57 disappointment about tricking the writing
01:41:59 uh... didn't go his way but you know i think it's a you just have to take the
01:42:02 disappointments in your stride and you
01:42:04 yes sir uh... i'm very sorry for at the air for patrick because
01:42:08 uh... he had such a good position after the fencing and in the warm-up the
01:42:12 writing was perfect and he said everything is fine and
01:42:15 the hoist jumped everything and now
01:42:17 this happened but
01:42:18 you know that's been a lot everything can happen even if you're in a good
01:42:21 position so
01:42:22 we see it time and time again don't we athletes are up the rankings and
01:42:26 and missing out on the writing but now patrick just has to look at
01:42:29 finishing as high up as he can because there's still useful points to be taken
01:42:32 today
01:42:33 yes sir i think they
01:42:35 both of them will do a good come in fabian patrick and uh... yet uh... tough
01:42:39 race between the german team
01:42:41 uh... the boys are all very strong and they are strong runners they're very
01:42:44 close so they have to fight for every point
01:42:47 if they didn't leave it is back in the house to take you some time away from
01:42:49 that injury and the key is injury didn't need that
01:42:52 uh... obviously was a
01:42:53 required surgery please back in
01:42:55 as a quick run at a bit what do you expect to see from from him here now
01:42:58 all right actually i want to see a top ten place
01:43:02 and yet
01:43:03 that's what i want to see
01:43:04 in terms of your country's regalia so he should ask a question about it i mean
01:43:07 obviously wasn't to be fit for you here
01:43:09 uh...
01:43:10 but you know you want to be i think you first world cup medal last year didn't
01:43:13 you so
01:43:14 uh... good memories and and i'm sure you can take those kind of moments and and
01:43:18 apply them to a season this year
01:43:20 yes sir uh...
01:43:21 even now even this competition was a good competition for me i'm coming back
01:43:25 from injury as well
01:43:26 as injured for nearly four months so it's pretty good that i'm back now and
01:43:30 i'm going step-by-step to every competition
01:43:33 getting better and yeah i'm happy to be in ankara
01:43:36 and just finally uh... chang wang seo is is is miles ahead of the pack isn't he
01:43:40 i mean he's he's looked in very good form here
01:43:42 could be about to pick up his first uh...
01:43:44 world cup gold medal you've been impressed by him so far
01:43:48 obviously yes and what can i say he did a perfect competition till now and
01:43:51 laser run i think is his most strongest uh...
01:43:55 yeah discipline so i think he will rock this and
01:43:58 i'm cheering for him
01:43:59 becky thank you very much for your time best of luck to you for the rest of the season
01:44:02 we'll keep an eye on the german athletes as well thank you for your time cheers
01:44:04 thank you bye
01:44:09 the olympics
01:44:15 in tokyo twenty twenty and uh... looking forward to paris as well
01:44:19 she's uh... one of the strong athletes here
01:44:23 in ankara but uh... unfortunately didn't make it to the final
01:44:26 uh... she just came back from injury as well so
01:44:30 that's
01:44:31 the kind of stuff you
01:44:32 hear about behind
01:44:33 the scenes that you don't get to see within their performances like
01:44:37 you can watch an athlete and think oh they
01:44:39 haven't done that well but
01:44:41 you don't know what goes on behind the scenes
01:44:43 some of the athletes are recovering from injuries some are working on new
01:44:46 techniques
01:44:47 so
01:44:49 pentathlon is uh... definitely one of those
01:44:52 sports you consider
01:44:54 or seasons in general that you consider is a marathon and not a sprint
01:44:59 we of course have
01:45:00 the most important event of the year coming up in august the olympic
01:45:05 games and uh... all these athletes have their eyes
01:45:09 on qualification
01:45:10 so if an athlete does not finish on top of the podium today they will be looking
01:45:14 for ranking points
01:45:16 patrick dog and charles brown in your vision now
01:45:19 they've uh... both been eliminated from the ride as i previously mentioned
01:45:25 i had a little chat with patrick in the range actually mariam and uh...
01:45:29 surprisingly positive he's like it's pentathlon it happens
01:45:33 i do admire that
01:45:35 that mind frame
01:45:36 really shows maturity and uh...
01:45:39 experience from these athletes i mean they understand the risks it takes
01:45:43 to be on top and uh...
01:45:45 sometimes it's just not your day and we've seen
01:45:48 that uh...
01:45:48 top position
01:45:50 being eliminated in the ride multiple times we've had christopher patt
01:45:55 in cairo
01:45:57 i believe he was in first place and got eliminated in the ride and uh...
01:46:01 says that something
01:46:03 that happens often
01:46:06 surprisingly
01:46:10 we've been talking a lot about
01:46:11 cheng wang seo obviously and how well he's been doing here he's looking like an athlete
01:46:15 that's unbeatable
01:46:17 and let's uh...
01:46:18 let's see why
01:46:19 he's had a uh...
01:46:20 very good career so far
01:46:24 picking up three
01:46:25 uh... sorry two world cup medals
01:46:28 to date
01:46:29 and uh... he has a senior ranking of eighth and olympic ranking
01:46:33 of eighteenth let's see how he compares to others and
01:46:36 you'll see one statistic that suggests this could be
01:46:40 cheng wang seo's gold medal here he's
01:46:43 below average by five percent despite that still got twenty six touches in the
01:46:47 ranking round that already straight away
01:46:50 gave you uh... twenty five i think it was wasn't it
01:46:52 uh... but he's way above average with laser run and you'll see here
01:46:56 well yeah listen he's uh...
01:46:58 not didn't have the best competition in cairo but generally speaking
01:47:02 he uh... either improves or at least stays where he is
01:47:05 in terms of starting and finishing
01:47:08 in the laser run
01:47:10 in uh... angkor last year fourth and fourth in budapest eight and four
01:47:17 here he is
01:47:18 the man of the moment
01:47:19 cheng wang seo
01:47:21 who is
01:47:22 really an exciting athletes
01:47:25 and we wish him the best of luck as he looks
01:47:29 finish this competition as well
01:47:31 as he has started it
01:47:33 being impressed by cheng wang
01:47:34 absolutely i think he blew all of us away
01:47:37 no one was expecting
01:47:39 uh... his fencing to be
01:47:41 that good as you saw in the statistics he was five percent under
01:47:45 the average so
01:47:47 that's uh...
01:47:48 probably
01:47:49 one of the best positions he'll be in
01:47:51 ahead of the laser run and uh...
01:47:55 uh... let's take a look at uh...
01:47:58 pablo timoshenko
01:48:00 and uh...
01:48:01 how he's doing in this competition he starts in third place
01:48:05 and uh... he is of course an olympic silver medalist
01:48:09 and we'll see that reflected in the statistics
01:48:12 world championship medals two olympic medals
01:48:16 one and look at how many world cup medals he's won
01:48:19 a total of
01:48:20 fourteen
01:48:22 one of the sports most experienced athletes
01:48:26 world cup debut coming all the way back in two thousand and seven phenomenal
01:48:30 he's thirty eight so past his prime but very much in the mix he's in this final
01:48:36 slow down there, nineteen eighty six is a good year
01:48:41 uh... in terms of how he compares to average he's a very solid fencer we know that
01:48:46 about timoshenko
01:48:47 he is uh...
01:48:48 yeah in the
01:48:50 uh... top eight percent
01:48:52 sorry eight percent above average should I say
01:48:54 uh... and he's just below average in the swimming but he's above average in the
01:48:59 laser run so yeah expect to see some good things from timoshenko in terms of
01:49:04 where he starts and where he finishes he's
01:49:06 been dropping places recently
01:49:09 in the world cup final last year he started in third place and will be looking
01:49:13 to get himself a first medal
01:49:15 of the year
01:49:19 up there
01:49:21 timoshenko's
01:49:26 statistics
01:49:33 I have to say I'm pretty nervous and
01:49:37 can't believe what the athletes are feeling right now in their positions
01:49:42 some of these athletes are about to start the race of their lives
01:49:46 Chang Wangseo, Muataz Mohamed as well
01:49:47 Chang Wangseo has won gold in
01:49:50 the
01:49:51 uh...
01:49:53 mixed relay before but never individually
01:50:00 he has a twenty three second head start over his opponent
01:50:04 Muataz Mohamed
01:50:07 it's bunched up together
01:50:08 Pavlo Timoshenko on twenty five, Matej Cinelli on twenty six, Tolder Mahalev on twenty nine
01:50:13 thirty one, Miles Pilliger, Emiliano Hernandez in thirty five but
01:50:19 it's all to play for here still in Ankara five seconds to go
01:50:23 yeah Chang Wangseo has never won a gold medal before
01:50:26 and he is beginning his quest here
01:50:30 in
01:50:31 Ankara
01:50:32 he won a silver in
01:50:34 world cup final in two thousand and twenty two here in Ankara, a season where he finished sixth
01:50:39 fourth and second
01:50:43 gradually improving on his results
01:50:46 uh... things didn't quite go his way
01:50:48 in
01:50:50 Cairo
01:50:52 but I'm sure he'll be looking to put that to the back of his mind. Muataz Mohamed and Pavlo Timoshenko are away as is
01:50:56 Matej Cinelli
01:50:58 Tolder Mahalev and Miles Pilliger
01:51:01 following outs
01:51:04 Emiliano Hernandez is out, Ahmad Gindi is out, Taisho Seto is out, Giorgio
01:51:09 Malan is out
01:51:11 Jan Koeff is out
01:51:13 and Mara Gric, Martin Vlak
01:51:16 are out as well, Fabian Liebig
01:51:18 is out now
01:51:22 we have the top fifteen athletes out and in the field
01:51:25 fourteen should I say
01:51:27 Fabian Liebig from fourteenth place, fifty three seconds off the lead
01:51:30 could be a menace to those in front of him
01:51:33 Martin Vlak fifty seconds off the lead could be
01:51:36 tricky as well, Cicinelli moves up
01:51:38 into third place, Timoshenko's fallen back
01:51:40 still the first lap, still early days
01:51:43 in Cairo
01:51:45 looked a little bit tired as well when running so it'll be interesting to see if he has
01:51:49 improved his running
01:51:51 since Cairo, we've got such quick runners now in pentathlon haven't we
01:51:55 as you mentioned at thirty
01:51:57 I think it was thirty seven years of age, Timoshenko, thirty eight
01:52:01 yeah he's uh...
01:52:03 he's up against some young fresh-faced young athletes like
01:52:07 Moultas Mohammed you can see in second place there
01:52:09 Miles Pillage has got a strong finish, Emiliano Hernandez and Ahmad El Gendi
01:52:13 he's already
01:52:14 storming through the field, El Gendi starting in eighth place, won a gold in Cairo
01:52:19 and is going to be keen
01:52:20 Dog
01:52:22 El Gendi and Brown
01:52:24 are the final three that are going to have a little battle between themselves aren't they
01:52:29 uh... here we can see Chang Wang is already at the shooting range by the way
01:52:33 and uh... he's got three out of five, four out of five for Seo
01:52:37 five out of five, Seo is out
01:52:39 and
01:52:40 there you go, we don't know the timing of that but we do know that it was a good shoot
01:52:46 so into the range
01:52:48 come the rest of our athletes, Moultas Mohammed is next
01:52:54 one out of the five
01:52:55 two out of the five, here we go, we've got the graphics now, bottom right hand side
01:53:00 Ciccinelli and Mohammed actually shooting a little bit slower than he would like to
01:53:03 no, that's a ten second shoot for Mohammed, that's a great shoot
01:53:06 an eight point six
01:53:08 what's that for Toto Makhalev
01:53:11 I said Toto Makhalev was out
01:53:13 I'm not sure that was right, no he's still in the range, Ciccinelli is out, El Gendi is out as well
01:53:19 so Ahmad El Gendi
01:53:21 I mean
01:53:22 he is in real form at the moment as well
01:53:25 I'll tell you what
01:53:26 the Egyptians are just a phenomenal team
01:53:30 Toto Makhalev now is
01:53:32 chasing down on Ciccinelli
01:53:34 I think it's uh...
01:53:35 we're not giving
01:53:37 Chang Wang Seo the credit he deserves because he's way out in front
01:53:41 but we've got such an
01:53:42 exciting battle unfolding in front of us
01:53:45 Moultas Mohammed, Matteo Ciccinelli and Ahmad El Gendi all battling for those final medal spots
01:53:51 and I know it's hard for you to reflect but I think Ahmad El Gendi
01:53:56 is in with a real chance for a medal here
01:53:58 yeah I think so, I mean he's got very solid shooting and I hope he continues on with that
01:54:03 but uh...
01:54:04 Fabian Liebig at the range by the way, the forty second shoot so
01:54:08 I think uh... there we go
01:54:10 Mohammed El Gendi with a ten second shoot
01:54:13 Charlie Brown with a thirteen and Patrick Dogg with a thirteen second shoot as well
01:54:17 just an interesting to keep an eye on, half an hour on that little battle
01:54:20 of the athletes that were eliminated from the riding
01:54:23 uh... okay Ciccinelli is closing in a little bit on Moultas Mohammed here
01:54:28 Moultas Mohammed is a quick runner though
01:54:30 and here we can see Chang Wang Seo
01:54:33 back at the range, let's see how well he's shooting
01:54:36 at the minute, makes his first
01:54:38 I think the time is a little bit over what it actually is so
01:54:41 we'll wait until the end of the shoot to
01:54:44 get excited about how
01:54:46 fast or slow it has been
01:54:49 struggling on this fifth shot a little bit here, Chang Wang Seo
01:54:52 oh my god he's gonna get sucked into that battle for first and second but
01:54:57 eighteen point nine the shoot for Chang Wang Seo
01:55:02 Moultas Mohammed at the range now
01:55:05 yeah makes his second shot as Amitai Ciccinelli enters the range as well
01:55:09 it's a close now, Ahmed El Gendi
01:55:12 is at the range
01:55:13 so great shooting that from Moultas Mohammed
01:55:16 Ciccinelli is away, Ahmed El Gendi
01:55:19 it's a nine second shoot for El Gendi
01:55:23 what about Toto Mikhaelev, Miles Pillage, Saito Hernandez is making his way into the
01:55:28 fold as well, Timoshenko is not a million miles away, ten second shoot for Saito
01:55:32 fourteen second shoot for Mikhaelev
01:55:35 what about Miles Pillage, he was trying to vlack with a nine second shoot, watch out
01:55:39 everyone the vlack is coming
01:55:42 twenty second shoot for Hernandez
01:55:46 Giorgio Mellan with a twelve second shoot, Greich and Kuf with fifteen and sixteen
01:55:50 respectively but that battle is as it was, it's strange how similar that battle
01:55:55 has been but El Gendi is starting to pick up the pace
01:55:58 does Ciccinelli jump off from here?
01:56:02 you know he's looking in very good form it's hard to say and we'll see the
01:56:05 split times and
01:56:07 at the checkpoint
01:56:08 but Changuang Tseu is just flying beyond any battle, look at that shoot from
01:56:13 Mohamed El Gendi, a six point six two, I think he's one of the best shooters in the world
01:56:17 yeah he's an incredible laser runner
01:56:20 and uh...
01:56:21 so Muhtas Mohamed is holding on to that lead nicely, Ciccinelli is holding on to bronze
01:56:26 Ahmed El Gendi, Ahmed El Gendi versus Muhtas Mohamed is one of the stories of the season so far
01:56:30 it's deja vu from Cairo isn't it?
01:56:34 Patrick Dogg and Charlie Brown having a good little battle between them actually
01:56:37 that's quite fun to watch in the back of the shot but Ciccinelli
01:56:40 is in third place and I'd say Ahmed El Gendi
01:56:44 has gained
01:56:49 about to approach the third round of shooting
01:56:52 Changuang Tseu, a little slip there from Ciccinelli, Changuang Tseu is at the range
01:56:57 one out of the five, two out of the five for Tseu
01:57:01 misses the third
01:57:03 three out of the five now for Tseu
01:57:04 Muhtas is joining in the range now, this is getting dangerous
01:57:08 quick, it's twelve point six nine from Tseu, that's solid
01:57:12 Muhtas Mohamed has closed down that gap
01:57:15 that was built there from Tseu, Muhtas Mohamed is flying through the shooting as well
01:57:18 Ciccinelli at the range, Ahmed El Gendi at the range
01:57:21 a twelve second shoot from Mohamed which is pretty good, can he catch Changuang Tseu?
01:57:25 we'll find out
01:57:26 oh that's an eight second shoot from Ahmed El Gendi
01:57:29 who steals
01:57:30 third place away from Ciccinelli with a twelve point nine nine
01:57:35 and now it is an Egyptian two and three
01:57:39 and can Ahmed El Gendi now close in on Muhtas Mohamed, we saw him overtake
01:57:43 at the final shoot in Cairo, Muhtas Mohamed is quick on his feet
01:57:47 has Ahmed El Gendi got, how's Ahmed El Gendi's fitness by the way?
01:57:51 any injuries or is he pretty healthy at the minute?
01:57:54 well he's pretty healthy at the minute, he has some issues with his shoulder
01:57:58 but
01:57:59 he's
01:58:00 been working on that with his coach but
01:58:02 Muhtas Mohamed is an incredible former, I have to say, if this ends as it does
01:58:06 I think Ahmed El Gendi is very happy to have gone from eighth to third
01:58:09 but he has got Muhtas Mohamed
01:58:11 in his cross hairs here
01:58:13 and
01:58:14 I'm wondering how far behind Changuang Tseu they are
01:58:18 let's have a look at the next split times as Mohamed El Gendi puts in another
01:58:21 solid shoot at ten seconds
01:58:23 Ciccinelli is not out of this by any means by the way, he's hanging on
01:58:27 to Ahmed El Gendi, these will be good points for Ciccinelli who started in fourth
01:58:31 and is still in fourth
01:58:33 Dogg and Brown still next to each other
01:58:36 I really want to see what that split time is
01:58:38 between
01:58:42 Muhtas
01:58:43 and Changuang Tseu, we're going to have to work it out ourselves I think
01:58:50 Ciccinelli is closing in on Ahmed El Gendi by the way, it's all going to come down to that final shoot
01:58:56 and
01:58:57 Changuang Tseu
01:58:58 is only about seven seconds ahead of Muhtas Mohamed, the pressure is on now
01:59:05 Changuang Tseu needs a good shoot here, he's dominated
01:59:09 he's at the range as Muhtas Mohamed closes in
01:59:13 so Tseu
01:59:14 starting this off well, this is good shooting from Tseu
01:59:17 misses his third though
01:59:20 still on
01:59:22 for Muhtas Mohamed and Changuang Tseu away with a 10.71
01:59:26 throws his cap off and Changuang Tseu now has a flat run for a potential
01:59:31 goal, oh Muhtas Mohamed just
01:59:33 faltered a little bit there, that's cost him an extra couple of seconds as he sets his eyes
01:59:38 on Changuang Tseu, I don't think he's going to have enough
01:59:41 to catch up with Changuang Tseu but he's going to give it a good go and
01:59:46 Matteo Ciccinelli keeps this really interesting, he's all over the back of
01:59:50 Ahmed El Gendy and Ciccinelli
01:59:54 well thinks about the overtake
01:59:56 but El Gendy has tracked position
01:59:59 and I know there's battles going on across the field as Martin Vlak
02:00:03 has come from nowhere, can he get involved in that battle
02:00:07 oh my goodness me what an exciting final lap, Changuang Tseu has a huge lead by
02:00:12 the way over Muhtas Mohamed, Muhtas Mohamed doesn't catch him at this point I don't think
02:00:15 this battle for bronze though is really exciting, Matteo Ciccinelli
02:00:19 all over the back of Ahmed El Gendy, Martin Vlak trying to make his way into the picture
02:00:25 he's focused on the back of Matteo Ciccinelli into the woods we go
02:00:29 Muhtas Mohamed is going to make it back to back silver medals as things stand
02:00:34 but it's this battle for bronze that has got us absolutely
02:00:38 on the edge of our seats, Martin Vlak isn't going to catch them from this point but a fantastic
02:00:43 laser on from him, so Ahmed El Gendy versus Matteo Ciccinelli
02:00:47 it's hammer time for Ahmed El Gendy now he's picked up a little bit of pace
02:00:51 and he seems to have dropped Matteo Ciccinelli in a minute we're going to see Changuang Tseu
02:00:56 crossing the finish line because he will be a gold medalist for the first time
02:01:01 Ciccinelli all over the back of Ahmed El Gendy but we pick up with Changuang Tseu
02:01:06 who is a gold medalist here in Ankara for the first time he grabs the tape
02:01:12 and screams in delight Muhtas Mohamed makes it back to back silver medals
02:01:18 what a season he is having and Ahmed El Gendy ever impressive ever consistent
02:01:25 starts in eighth finishes in third and it has been an Egyptian doubleheader on the podium once again
02:01:32 Matteo Ciccinelli comes home in fourth place Martin Vlak phenomenal as always
02:01:37 13th to 5th place and special mention here to Taisho Seto who's been in great great form
02:01:44 Emiliano Hernandez finishing strong Charles Pillage, sorry Miles Pillage is finishing the race well as well
02:01:52 Marat Gric coming over the line and he's being chased down right on the line there
02:01:57 but I think that's Toto Mihalev and there it is
02:02:01 Georgio Milan coming over the line Janko finishing and Fabian Liebig finishing strong
02:02:06 not a lot between them, we breathe
02:02:08 I can take a breath now that has been the single most nerve-wracking race I've ever commentated on
02:02:16 I mean Mohammed El Gendy is coming across the line now he's obviously been eliminated so he's gonna lose some more time
02:02:22 Pavlo Tomaschenko crosses the line as well he is in front of Mohammed El Gendy due to that elimination
02:02:31 but Mohammed El Gendy has done amazingly in the laser run by the way six second shoots through and through
02:02:37 Patrick Dogg and Charlie Brown are the last two athletes to make it across the finish line
02:02:44 Charlie Brown finishes in 17th and Patrick Dogg in 18th
02:02:47 Yeah Patrick Dogg sadly coming home in 18th but it could have been a different story for him
02:02:52 he had such a great fencing ranking round but there's your champion Chang Wang Sao
02:02:58 who gets a congratulations which is thoroughly deserved
02:03:02 right we're gonna head trackside and get some interviews Mariam over to you
02:03:06 yeah so that is the end of the men's and women's final
02:03:13 we of course had the women's earlier on in the morning but that is the conclusion of the men's
02:03:19 yeah what a day it has been a lot of things have changed and it's been an extremely nerve-wracking day
02:03:28 as we check out the replays from that race Chang Wang Sao started out in first and finished in first
02:03:36 pretty consistent athlete had some struggles in the range there but not too bad
02:03:41 held himself well while Mottaz Mohamed also started in second and finished in second place
02:03:49 so pretty exciting day all around the weather has been an issue
02:03:56 we kind of pushed back the competition a couple hours and we are now done with the men's final
02:04:05 the gold goes to Chang Wang Sao second place and the silver medal goes to Mottaz Mohamed
02:04:11 and third place is Ahmed El Gendi started out in eighth and came up all the way to third
02:04:18 had some interesting battles across the field it looked like Matteo Cicinelli was definitely one of the candidates to be on that podium
02:04:25 but it was Ahmed El Gendi's grit at the end there that finished the race
02:04:32 Matteo Cicinelli will be on the podium of course in fourth place
02:04:35 the first six athletes get mentioned on the podium
02:04:39 it was a good battle between the Egyptian and the athlete from Italy
02:04:48 Chang Wang Sao is just continuing to surprise us
02:04:53 I mean no one expected that fencing ranking round from him
02:04:56 but again he's shown his expertise and evolution in the sport
02:05:06 and I think this is just one win of many to come
02:05:09 Mottaz Mohamed and Ahmed El Gendi just hugging it out there in the end
02:05:14 they've been partners on the podium before earlier in Cairo it was a gold silver for Egypt
02:05:19 and now it's a silver bronze the Egyptians are absolutely dominating modern pentathlon
02:05:25 watch out for the Egyptians
02:05:28 Korean team all congratulating their teammate Chang Wang Sao
02:05:34 let's take a look at the current standings
02:05:37 those are your winners Chang Wang Sao, Mottaz Mohamed in second and Ahmed El Gendi in third
02:05:43 Matteo Cicinelli missing out on the medals in fourth
02:05:45 Martin Flack who came up from 13th place all the way to fifth
02:05:49 and Taisho Saito came up from ninth to sixth
02:05:53 Emiliano Hernandez starting seventh finished in seventh
02:05:56 Miles Pillage dropped down to eighth from sixth
02:06:00 and Mark Merrick-Reach finished in ninth
02:06:04 let's take a look further down the order
02:06:08 again these positions are valuable in terms of Olympic ranking points
02:06:14 the higher ranked you are the more points you get towards your Olympic quota
02:06:20 but here you go 10th goes to Totor Mahalev, Giorgio Malano in 11th
02:06:24 Jan Koeff in 12th
02:06:27 Jan Koeff just dropped one spot he was in 11th dropped down to 12th
02:06:31 Fabian Liebig in 13th, Pavel Tomaschenko in 14th
02:06:34 and the four athletes that got eliminated in the ride
02:06:38 Patrick Dock in 15th, Mohamed El Gendi in 16th
02:06:40 Charles Brown in 17th, Mohamed Chabane who did not start the laser run
02:06:45 the swimming or the bonus round in 18th
02:06:49 and let's go to James with one of our winners
02:06:54 Ahmed, I mean listen that was an incredible performance from you
02:07:00 you started in eighth place you finished in third
02:07:03 talk to us about the race because you really had to work for that one didn't you
02:07:07 the battle with Cicinelli was very exciting
02:07:09 it was a very exciting race, a very hard race
02:07:12 today the laser run was so competitive we were all very close to each other
02:07:17 and I'm very happy about this medal actually
02:07:20 bronze medal, felt like gold because there were 16 victories in the fencing
02:07:26 two knockdowns in the riding
02:07:29 so I'm very happy with the performance today in the laser run
02:07:32 the last shooting series would have made me like fighting for the silver or the gold
02:07:38 but it's great for me
02:07:41 I'm satisfied with the result, I'm very happy with the result
02:07:45 I hope the season continues like the first World Cup and this World Cup
02:07:50 two medals in two World Cups so it's very great for me
02:07:54 reflecting on Cairo a little bit as well
02:07:56 you and Moultaz Mohamed, there seems to be a nice little rivalry emerging here
02:08:01 it's nice to see him doing well but equally it's great to see you both fighting for medals
02:08:06 yeah actually I'm very happy for Moultaz
02:08:09 he's still young and he's still a junior and he has a very good chance in the seniors team
02:08:18 silver medal in Cairo, silver medal here in Ankara
02:08:21 in both World Cups we have been fighting for these medals
02:08:27 but I think all the Egyptian team is very strong
02:08:33 and unfortunately two of us will go to the Olympics
02:08:38 but we hope that the two that will go to the Olympics can achieve two medals
02:08:44 listen well done for today, I know you've got many fans watching back home
02:08:47 so just a quick message in Arabic for your fans back home
02:08:50 I'm very happy with the bronze medal today
02:08:53 it felt like a gold medal
02:08:56 I'm happy with the laser run today
02:08:59 from the second place to the third place, it's something we're very proud of
02:09:04 I hope the season continues with the same strength
02:09:07 and I'd like to congratulate Moultaz Mohamed on the medal today
02:09:12 and I hope we can be strong in the Olympics
02:09:17 Ahmed well done, two medals from two events in 2024, keep it going my friend
02:09:20 thank you, thank you James
02:09:23 what an amazing performance from Ahmed El-Ghindi
02:09:26 running from 8th all the way up to 3rd
02:09:29 he mentioned that his last shooting could have gone better
02:09:33 maybe even pulled him in that race for gold and silver
02:09:36 but still very satisfied with his result
02:09:39 a very strong Egyptian team
02:09:42 and we go to James again with one of our three winners
02:09:46 Moultaz I'm getting used to these interviews with you
02:09:49 it's back to back medals for you
02:09:51 two silver medals in two events
02:09:54 you must be feeling amazing right now
02:09:56 it's very amusing to have two medals in a row
02:09:59 it feels really great
02:10:02 after the first medal I said to myself
02:10:06 I need to be consistent on the podium
02:10:09 and once again I'm in second place
02:10:12 and this time I also have shared with Ahmed El-Ghindi
02:10:15 so it's feeling good
02:10:18 there was a moment on the final lap when you just left the laser shooting range
02:10:21 where you looked ahead to see where Chang Lang Sayo was
02:10:24 for a moment did you think maybe you could catch him and take the gold?
02:10:26 yeah maybe, before the last shooting series I said to myself
02:10:29 I can catch him
02:10:31 and at the last shoot
02:10:34 I got nervous again
02:10:38 but this time I didn't shoot very well
02:10:41 but after I finished the shooting series
02:10:44 I said I will do everything I can
02:10:47 so I will try to catch him
02:10:50 if there was more like maybe 300 metres
02:10:53 I could catch him but he's great, he's so hard to catch
02:10:56 keep putting performances together like this and who knows
02:10:59 you could even qualify for the Paris Olympic Games
02:11:01 I know there's a lot of very talented Egyptian athletes
02:11:04 but this must be on your mind as well
02:11:06 it's a dream, I have dreamed of this from like 4 years ago
02:11:09 even before Tokyo
02:11:12 I have dreamed of the US Olympics in Dakar
02:11:15 but it was postponed so I couldn't participate in it
02:11:18 so my dream was after Tokyo
02:11:21 when Ahmed got the silver medal
02:11:24 I told myself that's a dream
02:11:27 I want to be an Olympian, I want to get a medal
02:11:30 I want to make my family proud
02:11:33 and on that note just a quick message in Arabic
02:11:36 for everybody watching back home who is so so proud of you
02:11:39 First of all I want to say thank you God that I got this medal
02:11:42 I want to thank you all for your support
02:11:45 I hope you don't think I'm a bad person
02:11:48 I hope my parents will make it to the Olympics
02:11:51 and I hope we will do a good job, thank you all
02:11:54 Well done Mohtaz, thank you my friend, we'll see you again soon
02:11:57 Mohtaz Mohamed with the silver medal here in Ankara
02:12:00 he got the silver in Cairo, he got the silver in Ankara
02:12:03 and that is the name of the game, consistency folks
02:12:06 and Mohtaz Mohamed has it down
02:12:09 what a wonderful competition he's had
02:12:12 a mediocre fencing ranking round
02:12:15 but with his running that's all he needed
02:12:18 but we're back to James with our gold medalist
02:12:21 Well Chang Wang, we spoke to you before the competition
02:12:24 about your ambitions here in Ankara
02:12:27 a location that's been successful for you in the past
02:12:30 how happy are you with your performance and this gold medal?
02:12:34 As we said before, you said that
02:12:37 you were able to give Chang Wang a good energy
02:12:40 how do you feel about doing something good here again?
02:12:43 First of all, I've always had good results here in Ankara
02:12:51 and I don't know why but I've had a good feeling about it
02:12:54 and I've also been able to win a lot of medals
02:12:57 in the weakest fencing competition
02:13:00 and I've been able to focus on the final round
02:13:03 thanks to my good results
02:13:07 In Ankara, I always get some good scores here
02:13:10 so I think thanks to this
02:13:13 I get a good score again here in Ankara
02:13:16 and I already said that my fencing skills
02:13:19 are a little bit not strong
02:13:22 so this time I think I get a good score in fencing too
02:13:25 so this is why I did best in my competition
02:13:28 Yeah, I think you did a good job
02:13:31 and I'm sure you'll do well in the competition
02:13:34 Yeah, 25 hits in the fencing was very very impressive
02:13:37 and talk to us about the race itself
02:13:40 because you seemed very cool and relaxed
02:13:43 when you were at the front
02:13:46 I know that's not always the story
02:13:49 how was the laser run from your point of view?
02:13:52 Were you nervous?
02:13:55 I was a little worried because there were so many good fencers behind me
02:13:58 but I thought if I just focused on my race
02:14:01 I would be able to win the first place
02:14:04 and I think that worked out well
02:14:07 I was a little worried because there were so many good fencers behind me
02:14:10 but I thought if I just focused on my race
02:14:13 I would be able to win the first place
02:14:16 and I think that worked out well
02:14:19 I was a little worried because there were so many good fencers behind me
02:14:22 but I thought if I just focused on my race
02:14:25 I would be able to win the first place
02:14:28 and I think that worked out well
02:14:31 There were a lot of best sportsmen behind me
02:14:34 but I think focusing on myself only
02:14:37 and believing in myself
02:14:40 and I can do it
02:14:43 this is how I ended my competition in a successful way
02:14:46 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:14:49 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:14:52 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:14:55 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:14:58 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:15:01 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:15:04 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:15:07 And just finally, how much confidence does this give you now for the rest of the season?
02:15:10 I always wanted to win a gold medal
02:15:13 but I think I was a little nervous
02:15:16 but I think I won a gold medal
02:15:19 but I think I won a gold medal
02:15:22 and I gained a lot of confidence in the next competition
02:15:25 and I gained a lot of confidence in the next competition
02:15:28 so I think I can get good results in the next competition as well
02:15:31 so I think I can get good results in the next competition as well
02:15:34 so I think I can get good results in the next competition as well
02:15:37 I got a gold medal that I didn't think I could get before
02:15:40 I got a gold medal that I didn't think I could get before
02:15:43 and that's why I believe in myself much now
02:15:46 and that's why I believe in myself much now
02:15:49 so I can do best in my next competition too, I believe that.
02:15:52 Many congratulations and best of luck for the rest of the season.
02:15:55 Thank you once again Changwon.
02:15:58 That was Changwon Seo, your champion here in Ankara
02:16:01 That was Changwon Seo, your champion here in Ankara
02:16:04 didn't have the best of luck in Egypt
02:16:07 but turned things around with a gold medal here
02:16:10 and he's been through a couple days of competition
02:16:13 so let's just take a look at how he reached this amazing achievement
02:16:16 so let's just take a look at how he reached this amazing achievement
02:16:19 and Changwon Seo's road to the top.

02:17:59 Championship, but again these athletes will bask in the glory of these medals
02:18:10 we have again as a quick conclusion Changwon Seo in gold
02:18:15 Mu'taz Mohamed in silver and Ahmed El-Gindi in third
02:18:19 we will also be mentioning fourth, fifth and sixth
02:18:23 as we welcome James back into the controversy
02:18:26 [Music]
02:18:29 Saito picking up those extended podium positions
02:18:33 Mu'taz Mohamed is a very likable character isn't he?
02:18:38 He's just competing without fear isn't he?
02:18:41 and I think that is a really good attribute to have as a pentathlete
02:18:45 as an athlete in any sport
02:18:48 Those younger athletes were dangerous to the rest of the field
02:18:52 an honorable mention to sixth place Taishu Saito of Japan
02:18:58 Martin Black proving never to give up
02:19:02 he starts in 13th place, finishes in fifth, flew through the field
02:19:06 Matteo Ciccinelli
02:19:09 He's happy with that place
02:19:12 He hasn't been on the podium in a long while
02:19:15 Good to see him back up there in form
02:19:19 Yeah agreed
02:19:22 These athletes have really fought through
02:19:25 and just because there's no medal doesn't mean they haven't done the job right
02:19:31 Martin Black
02:19:37 is always impressive
02:19:42 Ciccinelli had a great event
02:19:45 I'd worry for the rest of the athletes if Martin Black gets better in the fencing
02:19:49 I'll tell you that
02:19:50 Martin Black got a 20 in the fencing ranking round
02:19:53 that would be a problem for the rest wouldn't it?
02:19:56 Here we go then
02:20:01 Our Olympic silver medalist, Werder Gendy
02:20:06 who makes it back to back podiums
02:20:09 a gold and a bronze to start the season off
02:20:12 and he said himself that gold feels, that bronze feels like a gold
02:20:18 And there goes our gold medalist, Werder Gendy
02:20:21 with a silver medal
02:20:24 Bronze then for Ahmed El Gendy
02:20:35 as he continues his somewhat dominance in this sport
02:20:44 A bronze medal, big smile on his face
02:20:47 and a proud Maryam Amir sat next to me in the commentary box
02:20:52 I'm proud of both Egyptians
02:20:55 They're continuing on this streak for Egypt
02:20:59 Who does, Mohamed?
02:21:02 Very very pleased
02:21:04 He always looks on the verge of good emotional tears doesn't he?
02:21:08 You know what, Matas is one of those who feel
02:21:12 who feeds off the crowd
02:21:15 There's a bigger crowd, he runs faster, he swims faster
02:21:18 He's just that kind of guy
02:21:21 and brought it home in silver
02:21:24 If I were any other team other than the Egyptians
02:21:27 I'd be scared
02:21:29 These Egyptians are really making it tough for the rest of us
02:21:32 Here we are, it's now four medals for Egypt
02:21:36 and the men's individuals in the first two events
02:21:39 One gold, one bronze, two silvers
02:21:42 That's a very good return isn't it?
02:21:44 I don't know if you've still got the likes of Mahana Shaban
02:21:47 and Mohamed El Gendy to pick up medals
02:21:51 I wouldn't be surprised if at some point we see a podium
02:21:54 consisting of all Egyptian male athletes
02:21:56 I think the last time that happened was the Youth World Championship in 2018
02:22:00 And here he is, our gold medalist for the first time
02:22:06 Chang Wang Seo has done it
02:22:09 He was absolutely on fire today
02:22:12 Yeah, he's understandably delighted
02:22:15 Chang Wang Seo is an in-form athlete
02:22:18 You know what, listen, he didn't expect himself to get 25 victories
02:22:23 He isn't the strongest of fencers
02:22:26 He said it himself, didn't he?
02:22:28 Yeah
02:22:29 If this becomes a passing phase
02:22:31 then that's him dominating the sport, isn't it?
02:22:34 If you flip things around for a second
02:22:36 Martin Black, 25 victories
02:22:38 Back-to-back podiums for sure
02:22:40 Martin Black gets 25 victories and he lapsed second place
02:22:44 Chang Wang Seo, gold here in Ankara
02:22:51 for Antoine's collection of medals
02:22:53 He was of course a silver medalist in the World Cup final in 2022
02:22:56 17th in Cairo at the beginning of the season
02:23:01 And Mataz Mohamed, by the way, had 16 victories and 17 victories in the ranking round respectively
02:23:07 Yeah, they've turned us around, haven't they?
02:23:10 Right, we pause now for the national anthem of Korea
02:23:14 National Anthem of Korea
02:23:20 National Anthem of Korea
02:23:25 National Anthem of Korea
02:23:53 National Anthem of Korea
02:23:57 The gold medalist and the champion here in Ankara
02:24:18 It is of course Chang Wang Seo as the national anthem of Korea rings out
02:24:23 And that concludes Individuals Day here in Ankara, Turkey
02:24:32 Congratulations to Chang Wang, Moutaz and Ahmed who take gold, silver and bronze
02:24:39 Thank you to everybody who tuned in as well
02:24:41 Hopefully that race was as exciting for you as it was for us
02:24:46 So we've crowned two medalists here in Egypt
