Momota told a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday that the Thomas Cup finals to be

held in Chengdu, China from April 28 to May 5 will be his last outing with the Japanese

national team.

Momota won the World Championships and Asian Championships back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.

He also won a total of 16 World Tour titles, 13 of which in 2018 and 2019.

He held the Guinness World Record for winning the most badminton men's singles titles in

a season, with 11 titles in 2019.

He last played competitively at the Badminton Asia Team Championship in Shah Alam in February

Momota was involved in a road accident on his way to the airport after winning the Malaysia

Following his return to Japan, he underwent surgery to repair his fractured eye socket,
