Newry City coach Dermot McVeigh spoke to the Newry Reporter in the wake of his side's 2-0 loss at home to Dungannon Swifts.
Transcript
00:00 Obviously another disappointing result, just want to get your thoughts on the game.
00:04 Yeah as you say massively frustrated, we've conceded a very soft goal in the first goal
00:09 and obviously the penalty at the last minute, there's no option to keep him down.
00:13 Questlove will have said we'll need to have another look at it, it's frustrating having lost a player.
00:18 Afterwards it was official afterwards, 0-0 from a captain, it's a massive chance, Georgie Point has had a great chance.
00:25 I think their goal was their only shot on target all day, which makes it even more frustrating.
00:30 Georgie Point dwelled on it, lost a game Tuesday night and they're very low.
00:34 Yeah you've mentioned the missed chances there, probably fair to say you did have the better chances certainly in the first half
00:39 but it's just small margins isn't it?
00:41 At the minute it's, as I've said previously, it's small margins, it's killing us.
00:46 Obviously missed penalty against Roosiers, missed penalty against London Wolves, she got a penalty last week.
00:50 Missing those chances in my opinion should be goals.
00:54 But we can't blame nobody else, we are in control of them for such reasons and it's us that isn't taking opportunities
00:59 and we just need to make sure if they come on Tuesday night that we take those opportunities.
01:04 On the flipside then, the second half, was it frustrating that you maybe weren't able to create more when you were 1-0 down?
01:09 Frustrating that we weren't able to create more, obviously we were against a breeze first half, sorry second half.
01:15 I think our back nine were sitting too deep first half, we squeezed a lane, we made it more of a bottle,
01:20 they didn't have it to come down the way they wanted, we dug in and out possessed them basically.
01:24 We tried to play and suck you out of position, I think we squeezed them well,
01:29 although we didn't get as much good opportunities, we still had a few, but we didn't get them.
01:34 I know you don't want to probably dwell on that late moment with the penalty incident and Barney Beacon getting sent off,
01:39 but that could have massive implications there for these last three games.
01:42 It can, Barney's a massive player for us, a huge loss, but it gives other players an opportunity,
01:47 other players will have to step up, there's three cup finals left, hopefully two play-off games after that.
01:53 As you say, no time to dwell on it, we just need to move on and get ready for Tuesday.
01:57 I suppose it's probably an obvious question, but now it's must this be your day now, isn't it, from here on out?
02:02 100%, there's 5.73 games to go, we're not stupid, we need results Tuesday night in football,
02:07 we need to go quicker than that, which gives us a faking chance the last two games.
02:10 Players are in there massively disappointed, can't fault any player through effort,
02:15 it has been like that since we got in, at times you just don't get the rub of the green.
02:18 It's fair to say you probably make your own luck by not taking those opportunities we spoke about,
02:23 so it's up to us to put it right, sit and find all the excuses we want,
02:26 but obviously it hasn't been good enough, it needs to be better in these final three games if we have any chances.
