Saltock opens new store in Skegness

Saltrock has opened a new store in Lumley Road, Skegness, and is already reporting record sales.

00:06 And we want to put a good big banner opening.

00:09 And don't all wish at once, as you know the world's over it.

00:12 So I'm going to casually cut the ribbon now and announce the opening.

00:29 Hi, I'm Tash. I'm the area manager for Salt Rock.

00:34 And we're opening our lovely store in Skeg this weekend.

00:37 Now you must be really excited to finally get this store open.

00:42 We've been looking for a site in Skeg for quite a long time.

00:46 Being a local Lincolnshire girl myself, Skegness is a place that holds a lot of memories for me.

00:52 So it's great to be finally opening a store here.

00:55 What does it mean to you to get in the main shopping street in Skegness?

01:00 Because it is something different isn't it for the town?

01:03 Yeah, absolutely. And we've opened in a lot of towns like Skeg and we perform really well.

01:08 And it's definitely our customer. We obviously cater for the beach.

01:13 We've got some amazing changing robes, Four Seasons jackets.

01:17 But we also do an amazing range of t-shirts and hoodies which obviously is where we started with originally.

01:23 So everything you need when you come to a seaside resort.

01:27 Absolutely.

01:28 [Street noise]

01:30 Judy Chapman, I'm the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce.

01:33 I'm here today in the very new, open today, Salt Rock Skegness.

01:38 It must be really exciting for you to see a brand coming to Skegness.

01:43 It's fantastic news. I mean it just shows that there's a lot of confidence in Skegness and its future.

01:48 And that's the most important thing.

01:50 Because obviously we have lost some stores recently.

01:52 But we want these new, exciting, these new brands.

01:56 This is what people are buying these days.

01:58 And I think that's the most important thing.

02:00 Skegness, yeah the beginning of the season. It just feels really positive and fantastic.

02:05 And obviously we've got the work starting on some of the shop fronts.

02:09 That must also be encouraging.

02:11 Exactly. I mean like I say, some of the places are ready for a change.

02:15 And these new shop fronts brighten up the place and it's for everyone's benefit.

02:20 I am told there is still money to be had for the landlords of some of the shops down Lumley Road.

02:28 And I'm told it's also a great deal.

02:31 What would you say to some of those landlords?

02:34 Because even sort of looking down Lumley Road as we were waiting to come in here now.

02:40 There are some shops that just a lick of paint on the front would just make such a difference to people's experience shopping.

02:47 Exactly. I mean obviously the scheme was promoted widely and quite a number of landlords took advantage of it.

02:54 Those schemes are now happening and people can see that it's real.

02:58 And I think that's the important thing.

03:00 That now people can see it, they're perhaps be motivated to put themselves forward so that they can benefit as well.

03:07 And that in addition could attract more brands like this to Skagenest.

03:11 Absolutely. Because people will move to places that are progressive and doing positive things for the town.

03:18 And this is positive.

03:21 You know we know that a lot of town centres are really suffering but this one is making a big revival and it's fantastic.

03:29 Well the shops only been open for a short time and it's already buzzing isn't it?

03:34 Fingers crossed.

03:36 In a couple of minutes it's come like this.

03:38 It just shows you people are interested.

03:41 I'm just waiting to hear the tools ringing because that's obviously what they need as well.

03:45 We'll in a minute because I think I'm going shopping.

03:51 It's called put your money where your mouth is.

03:53 I know, absolutely. Well thank you.

04:02 Clearly you're pleased to see Salt Rock opening in Skagenest.

04:06 Oh yeah definitely. We normally travel down south to be fair.

04:09 Just typically go to a Salt Rock shop.

04:12 The clothes are just of great quality and everything. I love it.

04:16 So what have you bought today?

04:18 I bought myself a t-shirt today.

04:20 Okay and what have you been buying?

04:23 I bought a t-shirt as well.

04:25 But we'll be back.
