00:00 Halsey is weighing in on Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis.
00:04 The 29-year-old singer took to their Instagram story on March 23rd, following the Princess
00:08 of Wales' health update and defended Kate's right to privacy, even though she lives in
00:13 the public eye.
00:14 Penning, "Hope the people and the media who sensationalized a woman's desire for privacy
00:19 following a known health incident are experiencing regret and remorse.
00:24 And by the way, that would stand even without the terrible news of her journey.
00:27 I understand when you have a public life, certain things like this can get out of hand,
00:31 but God forbid someone needs a break for a few weeks or months, it's no one's business
00:36 why."
00:37 Halsey concluded with their own insight into dealing with the spotlight and how one's relationship
00:41 with it can change over time.
00:43 "And with respect to public life, who you are and how you're doing when you 'sign up'
00:47 for this is subject to change at any moment.
00:50 And the newly changed you in place, for whatever amount of time, days, weeks, years, may not
00:56 have the same stamina or tolerance," they wrote.
00:59 On Friday, March 22, the 42-year-old royal announced in a moving video released by Kensington
01:04 Palace that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy after doctors discovered cancer
01:09 had been present following her abdominal surgery in January.
01:13 Kate didn't go into specifics about the diagnosis, but she did explain the timeline of her medical
01:17 journey, revealing why she is undergoing chemo.
01:20 "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought
01:26 that my condition was non-cancerous.
01:29 The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been
01:34 present.
01:36 My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy,
01:41 and I'm now in the early stages of that treatment," she said.
01:44 The princess also expressed her need for continued privacy during this time, as she and her family
01:48 navigate their next steps.
01:50 "We hope that you'll understand that as a family, we now need some time, space, and
01:56 privacy while I complete my treatment.
02:00 My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when
02:05 I'm able.
02:06 But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery," she said.
02:09 Kate's shocking update comes as her father-in-law, King Charles, announced he was diagnosed with
02:14 cancer in February, shortly after he completed a procedure to correct an enlarged prostate.
02:19 As of March 26, the palace has not specified their respective types of cancer, but Buckingham
02:24 Palace did issue a statement from King Charles regarding Kate, which read in part, "His Majesty
02:30 is so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did.
02:33 Following their time in hospital together, His Majesty has remained in the closest contact
02:38 with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.
02:41 But Their Majesties will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family
02:45 through this difficult time."
02:47 Kate's video is the first time she had directly addressed the public since her January surgery.
02:51 "I'm so proud of her," she said. "I'm so proud of her. I'm so proud of her."
02:59 the family.
