00:00 Well, search and rescue teams have been in the area since that distress call went out
00:05 in the very early hours of the morning.
00:08 And they have been searching underwater with UAV vehicles and also divers as well.
00:13 We are told over 50 divers have been taking part in that operation.
00:18 We know that eight people fell into the water after the bridge collapsed.
00:24 Two of them were taken out of the water.
00:26 One was in a life-threatening condition and taken to hospital.
00:29 One walked away from the scene and did not require medical attention.
00:33 Six people currently unaccounted for.
00:36 It should be said that the company that they were working for, they were all construction
00:40 men who were working on the roads there on the bridge, their company is saying that they
00:45 are now presumed dead.
00:47 Let me take a step out of frame here and let me show you the scene behind me.
00:51 This is the closest you can get if you are not a medical worker or a search and rescue
00:57 diver here.
00:58 You can see the sheer carnage that was left behind when that tanker, that shipping vessel
01:04 hit the bridge.
01:05 On the left, the road, the level of the road, a couple of hundred feet above the water and
01:10 then the mangled remains of that bridge now laying over the front of that ship there.
01:16 That Singaporean flagged container ship, Dali, hitting the support beam, causing that to
01:22 fall down.
01:23 We heard from the governor of Maryland who said and confirmed reports that actually a
01:30 distress signal had been sent by the crew of the ship and that they reported that they
01:36 had lost propulsion and that they were about to crash into the support beam of that ship.
01:43 That Mayday call was given in enough time for the Department of Transport to stop other
01:49 cars from getting onto the roads and we are hearing that they were just about to tell
01:53 the construction crew of the danger when the bridge collapsed and tragically threw them
01:59 into the freezing cold waters below.
02:02 The water has been hovering around eight degrees Celsius all day.
02:06 Most experts say that the human body can stay alive for about one to three hours in those
02:11 kind of conditions.
02:12 So, it's looking very, very slim for the rescue teams out there and could very soon turn into
02:18 a salvage operation, but we're still holding our hope here in Baltimore.
