Ravers descend on Ikea showroom for flashmob 'house party'

An 80-strong group of ravers attended a pop-up DJ set in an Ikea - much to the surprise of unwitting staff and customers.

The store, located in Eastgate, Bristol, was the unlikely setting for a drum and bass DJ set just after 6pm on Thursday, March 21.

The event was put on by Rumble in the Jungle, a Bristol-based event brand with two of the organisers entering the store posing as Ikea employees – complete with custom printed T-shirts.

They had scoped the showrooms a week earlier settling on a house showroom featuring a kitchen with dining room and living room area.

DJ Alchemist played at the seat which lasted about 20 minutes and was described by Rumble in the Jungle as a “flawless” and “epic”.

Jack Cottle, director of Rumble in the Jungle, said: “It was such a nice atmosphere, and everyone was enjoying the music, and enjoying the buzz of doing it somewhere where you probably wouldn’t ever imagine doing it.

“Even the actual staff at Ikea were laughing and enjoying the show.

“The manager of the store even made his way through the crowd and gave us an additional two minutes to play another song.

“It added to an incredible experience that they were so supportive.”

Jack, who also played part of the set, said the group wear fearful some staff had cottoned on to their plan but was pleased that staff seemed to see the funny side.

The group has plans for similar events in the future with this stunt part of a promo for a forthcoming event in Bristol in The Underground in central Bristol featuring acts such as Skepsis, Alcemist, P Money, Charlotte Plank, Dillinja b2b Randal and more.

Ikea have been contacted for comment.
