Conservative opinion poll woes lead to growing calls for snap election
  • last month
Rishi Sunak faced a significant setback in efforts to boost Tory support as two new opinion polls revealed Labour's substantial lead widening within a week. According to Redfield & Wilton Strategies, Labour extended its lead by eight points, with 47% compared to the Tories' 21%, down three points from the previous week. Deltapoll showed a similar trend, with Labour leading by 23 points, up by six points. These numbers arrive amidst discussions of replacing the PM, especially after recent controversies, including a race row involving a major party donor. Despite this, Prime Minster Sunak remains defiant, stating the country is on the mend and dismissing Westminster plotting.

Some in the party feel that a snap election may be the best option with concerns that the conservatives fortunes may only get worse by the autumn which is the expected election time.
