00:00 Haven and Wynne care home was taken over by the council in November last year from Methodist

00:06 Homes in a move that saved the home from closure and has been very much welcomed.

00:13 The building is only 16 years old, so it's the most modern and spacious care home in

00:20 the county.

00:21 It's purpose built with full en suite bedrooms and a whole range of facilities.

00:29 We naturally want to see it used to the full by Ceredigion residents because they deserve

00:34 the best facilities we have.

00:36 It has 90 bedrooms, 50 of which were being used at the time of the handover and they

00:43 continue to be used, leaving 40 vacant.

00:48 Catrach Trageddyn in Bow Street is around half a century old and unfortunately no longer

00:55 meets Care Inspectorate Wales standards for room sizes and many other things.

01:03 Like all homes of this age, it does require considerable investment to bring it up to

01:09 modern standards.

01:13 Staffing an extra 40 beds at Haven and Wynne on top of those the council already runs across

01:20 the county would be almost impossible at present because of the nationwide lack of social care

01:27 staff.

01:28 We're already having to use agency staff.

01:33 So the challenge is to find a way to fully use Haven and Wynne without stretching our

01:39 available staffing resources beyond their capacity.
