Yakuza, also known as gokudō (極道, "the extreme path"), are members of transnational organized crime syndicates originating in Japan and have been in existence for more than 300 years.
Many yakuza have full-body tattoos (including genitalia). These tattoos are known as irezumi in Japan. The ink is inserted beneath the skin using non-electrical, hand-made, and handheld tools with needles of sharpened bamboo or steel. The procedure is expensive and painful, and can take years to complete.
