Authorities are urging people to take precautionary measures as South Australia prepares for a blast of summer-like heat across the long weekend. Temperatures of 40+ degrees are expected as crowd gather for Womaelaide, the Adelaide Cup and other sporting events.

01:04 Racing SA is expecting an audience of 8,000 people at Morphet Wheel on Monday for the
01:08 running of the Adelaide Cup.
01:10 It's promising to keep the fans and the horses safe.
01:13 "They'll be doing all of the things that they can to keep the horses cool in the stables
01:18 before they come to the races, as they travel to the races."
01:22 Relief for everybody in the form of a cool change isn't expected until late next week.
