Dutch psych-rock band DeWolff play Hastings’ Black Box on March 22 on their first-ever UK headline tour.

00:06 lovely this afternoon to speak to Luca, who is the drummer with the Dutch band Devolve.

00:11 Now, you are coming to the UK in March, having been to the UK as a support band last autumn.

00:18 This time you are headlining and you're playing Hastings among the venues you're playing.

00:23 Exciting times, your own headline tour in the UK, you must be very pleased.

00:27 Yeah, yeah, it's very exciting. We're really looking forward to come back to the UK and

00:33 play our own shows. Like, finally we can play two hours or more each night instead of like

00:39 the 30 minutes you get when you play as a support act. So, really looking forward to

00:44 play a full show.

00:45 Yeah, why the UK? Why is it important for you to come over here?

00:51 It's a logic step for us because we've been playing for 16 years now and we're, since

00:57 the beginning, we've been inspired by a lot of British bands, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple,

01:02 Black Sabbath, Humble Pie, The Faces, you know, so the Rolling Stones, of course, and

01:08 The Beatles.

01:09 I'm pleased you mentioned those.

01:13 Yeah, you know, the UK has such a good life circuit and it feels like a logic step to

01:21 go there. Like, we sing in English and we play inspired by British bands, so yeah, it

01:29 feels completely logic to go there. And the same in the United States, we really want

01:34 to go there someday.

01:35 That will happen, won't it, one day?

01:38 I hope so, yeah.

01:39 How did you find the UK audiences? Were people receptive and warm and friendly?

01:45 Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, you know, each country is different. I mean, when you play in Spain,

01:51 the people are really outgoing. If you play in the Netherlands, the people are more like,

01:55 "Okay, come and convince me." We were feeling very welcome in the UK and the response was

02:04 really good. And I think it's good that we're coming back so soon because now we're still

02:10 fresh in the minds of the people and they'll remember us and come to our shows.

02:16 You've been doing this for a long time. You started incredibly young in the band, didn't

02:20 you?

02:21 Yeah, I was about 12 or just 13 when we started playing. Yeah, and my brother, he was three

02:28 years older, so he was like 15, 16, and the keyboard player about 17 years old.

02:33 Wow, have you managed to keep the same lineup for those 16 years?

02:38 Yeah, yeah, you don't hear that quite often. But yes, we are just the three of us, you

02:46 know, still. Well, sometimes when we play bigger shows, especially in the Netherlands,

02:51 we bring a bigger band. So we have two backup singers, we have a bass guitar player, sometimes

02:56 three horn players and a percussion player. So then it's like the full outfit on stage.

03:02 But when we go to the UK in March, it will be just the three of us. So drums, guitar

03:07 and Hammond organ. And the Hammond player also plays bass with his left hand. So he

03:14 has like a Raymond Zarek style.

03:16 Wow, that's multitasking, isn't it? That's brilliant.

03:20 Yeah, it is next level multitasking. Yeah.

03:23 Brilliant. We're really lovely to speak to you and have a very happy tour to the UK.
