Moyes relief after West Ham snatch late 3-1 Everton win
Transcript
00:00 "Scanning the room here to see some old faces. There's one there. Sorry. Hi. Hi.
00:18 "OK guys, who wants to kick us off?
00:20 "David, what impression are you most about the Man Ulbrichtons performance today?"
00:24 "Look, to come here and win, I think the result was harsh on Everton, but our goalkeeper made four or five outstanding saves.
00:36 "But look, we scored three goals at Everton. Everton don't concede too many. We scored four in midweek against Brentford.
00:42 "So we've done the job. I think the Premier League teams and games are really tight at the moment. I don't think there's an awful lot between the teams.
00:50 "We've just gone through six or seven weeks where very little has gone for us today. I don't know if that's the right word, 'went for us',
00:57 "but our goalkeeper made saves, which he's there to do. So I have to say, thrilled with the win. A wee bit of a throwback, but I really enjoyed it."
01:06 "How do you know the game? I noticed you went up to Ariadna. You don't normally do that. What do you say to him?"
01:11 "I just said it. He probably made the difference. His performance was terrific. A lot of goalkeepers get praised for different things,
01:20 "the use of the ball, etc. But I think most people from where I come from, it's the ones who save it with their hands and stop the ball going in the net most of the time.
01:28 "I thought he'd done that really well today."
01:30 "And lastly, would it have been harder to drop Dani Alston if that had happened?
01:39 "I think he's got incredible spring, which people wouldn't probably see. You might not see it. He's got athleticism, which is probably as good as Emdi at the club.
01:51 "I think it's his genes and what he's got and where he comes from. I think all those things play a part in it. But he's just really good. He brings off some terrific saves.
02:03 "He's been very good for us. There's bits we'd like him to improve on, distribution a bit, different things. But overall, he's done great for us since he's come into the team."
02:12 "I think that's more points now than it was in the last season."
02:16 "Yeah, it does. Thanks for that, Joyce. What I was going to say was, yeah, we've had a difficult period. We've won a couple of games back-to-back.
02:29 "But we're still hanging in there. I thought we had to hang in a wee bit today. We had to be resilient a couple of times when Everton and the crowd got right behind the team.
02:39 "When they went 1-0 up, the crowd got right behind them. We had to find a way of staying with it. We've just about done it and no more.
02:47 "The keeper made a save. We got up the pitch and we scored from a corner kick to equalise it. It was a really tight game and the small margins went in our favour today."
02:57 "David, a few minutes ago at Everton, did you have in your mind that you still wanted three points?"
03:04 "Absolutely. When we went a goal down, it was how we were going to change. We changed the players' positions a little bit as the game was on,
03:13 "trying to find ways of being better, maybe making more chances, finding a way of getting up. We found it tough, I have to say, probably for the 20 minutes at the start of the second half especially.
03:24 "We rode that a little bit and grew into it and done enough to get a few goals."
03:31 "Just on the Suchet score, have you seen the score go like that in training?"
03:35 "That was a brilliant goal. Suchet scored the goal here during Covid, very similar. I think we won 2-1 here late on.
03:43 "I think we've lost four out in the last 16 in the Premier League. We're knocking at the door, we're maybe not quite good enough yet to be challenging in that position,
04:01 "but we're trying to keep it going. We've had two really good wins from a really difficult period over January and February. For the ones who don't know, us having Lucas Paquetta back in the team is completely different.
04:14 "It makes us different, it makes us play better. He's still getting back to his full form. It was quite harsh on Everton today because they had done a lot of good things at Everton and we'd just done enough to get in front."
04:28 "You said you had a really good period with the club, especially after the game against Arsenal. Have you seen that confidence back?"
04:34 "Yes, I've said to the players, now we're going to Europe on Thursday night, third year we're in football after March and we've got to try and take the confidence.
04:47 "We've had a good win away from home, we've had a good win at home. Can we take that into the fixture in midweek, which we know will be an incredible atmosphere and it'll be a really tough game.
04:57 "We look forward to it now."
05:00 How important is Edson Mambares as a defender?
05:07 "Edson's been really, really important for us. We've lost England's best player in the summer and we've had to try and replace him. I think people might only begin to recognise how good he was and what he'd done for us over the seasons we had.
05:24 "We've had to try and find a way of, some weeks we've been able to do it quite well, some weeks we've not. I think Eddie's settled in really well. I think he's still finding the 90 minutes in the Premier League tough.
05:37 "I think if you ask him, I think he's finding getting through 90 minutes really tough. He's settled in well, he scores a goal today. He broke away, I thought he had no energy and then I see him running 70 yards up the pitch, so maybe I've got him wrong."
05:54 Thank you.
05:55 "Cheers."
05:56 Thank you.
05:57 Thank you.
05:58 Thank you.
