The European Commission will continue to fund the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) as probes continue into the alleged involvement of 12 staff members in Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel.

00:00 The European Commission has announced that the EU will increase aid to the Palestinian
00:08 people. A significant part of the money comes through the UN agency UNRWA, despite the fact
00:14 that it is currently under investigation for allegations that some of its staff members
00:19 were involved in the October 7th attack. Today the Commission has decided to proceed
00:32 to paying 50 million euro to UNRWA and to allocate an additional 68 million euro to
00:40 support the Palestinian population across the region to be implemented through international
00:45 partners such as, for example, the Red Cross and the Red Crescent.
00:51 This comes in addition to the foreseen 82 million euros of aid, bringing the total to
00:56 150 million, with the first payments scheduled for next week. This announcement arrives just
01:02 after the dramatic death of many people during an aid distribution in Gaza on Thursday. Hamas's
01:08 health ministry spoke of a massacre in which 104 people were killed and more than 750 wounded.
01:17 A representative of the Israeli army admitted that shots were fired into the crowd.
01:25 European leaders have condemned the killing of Palestinian civilians and asked for an
01:29 investigation into the matter. The European Union has called several times
01:41 for a humanitarian pause in order to help those in trouble.
