Dan Nathan Discusses Rivian and Tesla

Dan thinks the Tesla stock heads back to the lows from June.   Dan also says that Rivian reminds him of Tesla 7 or 8 years ago.   He thinks Tesla has a whole host of problem and he is taking note of the way it closed on Monday.

00:05 I mean, like if we think about what Tesla just did, I mean, they missed their delivery

00:10 They didn't miss the number of cars that they supposedly made, or they didn't miss them

00:14 When you think about the difference here is that Tesla is selling to a consumer, right,

00:18 that is basically buying a very high-end car.

00:21 They have to do it outside the U.S., predominantly for growth.

00:24 They're dealing with the strength of the dollar here, all the other supply chain issues.

00:28 I'll take them at face value.

00:30 I just think that the Rivian story versus the Tesla story, it's kind of like getting

00:33 involved with Tesla seven or eight years ago now.

00:37 I think that at the scale in which Tesla is right now, they have a whole host of problems

00:42 I just don't see how Tesla hits that number.

00:43 I'll just say this, the way Tesla closed today, this was something really important for this

00:47 stock I think in this market cycle here, especially with the NASDAQ and the S&P surging.

00:52 This is the fifth largest stock in the market here, or six or something like that here,

00:56 closing very near the dead low.

00:58 But something fundamentally changed, in my opinion.

01:03 It was a bunch of nonsense, and then the delivery missed.

01:05 So to me, I think this stock probably heads back towards those lows from June.
