00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 It all starts right now.
00:13 All right now on this hump day.
00:16 Hump day.
00:17 Hump day, meaning that today actually is the official--
00:21 It's all downhill from here?
00:22 Pretty much.
00:24 Today is the official last day of February, but unofficially because it's a leap year.
00:29 Right, because we have tomorrow still.
00:31 Tomorrow still.
00:32 So those who are celebrating their birthday--
00:34 Happy birthday!
00:35 Happy birthday, and they don't get to do it for another four years.
00:37 Right, I know.
00:38 So live it up.
00:39 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:40 I am Bradley Perez.
00:41 And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:42 And today on the show, Bobbo, a town eatery, is here giving back with some cool baseball
00:48 morning data.
00:49 And you can find out how you can snag an item and some delicious food for a very good cost.
00:55 Okay, I love this because I love Bobbo's.
00:57 Have you eaten there?
00:58 I have not yet.
00:59 Brad.
01:00 What?
01:01 I know.
01:02 Yeah.
01:03 You gotta go.
01:04 It's so good.
01:05 Their lunch specials, they do a salad or a little soup or whatever, and then a pasta or a pizza.
01:10 And it's a really great deal, and I go there all the time, and I get the pesto.
01:14 Okay, my nutritionist is coming in today because he's switching my diet plan, and I will ask
01:18 him if I can put that on the list.
01:19 There you go.
01:20 See, maybe for a cheat day.
01:21 There you go.
01:22 I like it.
01:23 I like it.
01:24 There we go.
01:25 Bobbo's Games, they're in town right now, and we're getting a look at all the fun that
01:29 you can take part in.
01:31 This is, I literally, as soon as we started talking about this and the Highland dancing,
01:36 I immediately thought of Outlander.
01:38 Did you?
01:39 Have you seen the show?
01:40 Have you watched it?
01:41 Yeah, or the movie.
01:42 Like, there's a movie.
01:43 The movie?
01:44 Yeah, there's a movie.
01:45 Highlander, the movie.
01:46 It's way, it's like, oh, yeah.
01:47 Oh, but it's not Outlander.
01:48 It is.
01:49 Have you watched, has anybody in here watched Outlander?
01:50 Yeah, I've watched Outlander.
01:51 The TV show?
01:52 So I thought Outlander was part of the movie.
01:53 I don't think so.
01:54 I don't know.
01:55 Who knows?
01:56 It's a book series, and then they made it into a TV series.
01:57 Got it.
01:58 All right.
01:59 Cool.
02:00 And then I was supposed to bring my kilt, and I forgot my kilt.
02:01 Brad.
02:02 Well, it looks like you can't join in the dancing today.
02:03 No, but what I can do is give away some stuff.
02:08 That's right.
02:09 After around 9.30, somewhere around there, we're going to tell you how you can win tickets
02:12 to a spring training game here in the Valley.
02:14 Absolutely.
02:15 So you want to stick around for that.
02:16 And speaking of spring training, which is pretty cool going on right now, as I see the
02:21 lights up.
02:22 Are they playing nighttime yet?
02:23 I don't know.
02:24 I don't know.
02:25 Is this from the Dodger game?
02:26 Are we watching?
02:27 That's all of it.
02:28 We're just watching a promo.
02:29 Okay, so we're going to tell you about that later.
02:30 But yesterday, the half-billion-dollar man bat, and his name is...
02:35 For the Dodgers?
02:36 Say the name, somebody.
02:37 What?
02:38 The Dodger player.
02:39 Ohtani?
02:40 Ohtani.
02:41 What's his name?
02:42 Ohtani.
02:43 Ohtani.
02:44 Ohtani.
02:45 Ohtani.
02:46 Ohtani.
02:47 Ohtani.
02:48 Ohtani.
02:49 Thank you.
02:50 But he batted yesterday for the first time with the Dodgers and hit a home run, they
02:51 said.
02:52 Say it again, Ryan.
02:53 He batted his first time at a home run.
02:54 Okay, struck out the first time, hit a home run his third time.
02:57 Our resident baseball expert has just schooled us.
03:00 Yeah, Ryan, so you've got to pop up when we talk baseball, all right?
03:03 You're the baseball guy.
03:04 Thank you.
03:05 Yeah, thank you.
03:06 But yeah, so that was really cool.
03:08 Everybody's been watching him.
03:09 And tomorrow on our show, we're going to get an insight to that man from actually the L.A.
03:13 Beat Writer for the Dodgers.
03:14 Nice.
03:15 So it's going to be cool.
03:16 So nice.
03:17 Love it.
03:18 All right, let's do some trending brought to you by Gerber Injury Law, where we trial
03:19 the internet, the social media websites, our own backyard to give you something to talk
03:22 about.
03:23 And we thank Gerber Injury Law for doing that.
03:24 And we're going to continue on with baseball because last night was the Paradise Valley
03:29 City Lifestyle Magazine's little party they had.
03:32 Their like launch party.
03:33 Launch party.
03:34 And there was a special guest there, and he's on the cover.
03:37 I'm going to show you.
03:38 Yeah, show us.
03:39 Boom, there he is.
03:40 I snagged this early.
03:41 Beautiful.
03:42 I know Nadine will be in next week too.
03:43 I'll talk about this.
03:44 But there we go.
03:45 He is on the cover.
03:46 He is Randy Johnson, as we know, the unit who helped us win a, of course, national championship
03:53 and some more.
03:54 But there we are together.
03:55 Oh, so cool.
03:56 So yeah, me and Randy.
03:57 And the thing is, Randy's a lot taller than me, just so you know.
03:59 He was bending down to take a picture with me.
04:01 Oh, wow.
04:02 How tall is he?
04:03 He's almost, I think he's like 7'8" or 7'10".
04:05 No way.
04:06 Like he's huge.
04:07 When you come- 7'10"?
04:08 Yeah.
04:09 No way.
04:10 Yeah, he's like, he's big.
04:11 He's a tall guy.
04:12 He's really, literally, he bent down to take a picture with me.
04:15 Somebody Google how tall he is.
04:16 Somebody Google it.
04:17 But the cool- 6'10"?
04:20 Not 7'10".
04:21 6'10".
04:22 6'10"?
04:23 7'10"?
04:24 I could see, I could see maybe 6'10".
04:25 Not 7'10".
04:26 Randy Johnson.
04:27 7'10" would be like- He's huge.
04:28 I'm telling you.
04:29 That would be like a giant.
04:30 Wait until you see him.
04:32 You know- I'm sure 6'10" is very tall.
04:34 He's 6'10"?
04:35 6'10" is very, very tall.
04:36 7'10" would be like a foot taller than he would be like hitting this thing.
04:41 Well, when you see him, right?
04:42 We're going to try to get him here in person because one reason why he's on the magazine
04:46 is that he's a photographer.
04:47 And a lot of people didn't realize that he actually went to school for photography.
04:51 So that's what he was studying in college.
04:53 And then he traveled the world to take pictures.
04:55 This is an exhibit on Africa that's over at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts.
05:00 Wow.
05:01 Is he local here in town?
05:02 Yeah, he lives here and he loves it here.
05:04 And so it's really cool.
05:05 He just had knee surgery, he's saying, so he's going to be sticking around.
05:07 So we're going to try to get him on the show and go over and see the exhibit.
05:09 But that was pretty fun last night.
05:11 I will say, if you want to pull the picture up really good, because I just want everybody
05:16 to know, I'm in my sweats.
05:18 Everybody else was dressed fancy and I felt bad.
05:20 I just wanted to stop by and say hi and I get there.
05:23 You get there and it's like a super fancy party and you rolled up in your sweats.
05:27 Brad!
05:28 I guess that's better than me though because I didn't even go.
05:32 I was working out so I had to go to work out and stuff to get ready for this thing I'm
05:36 doing.
05:37 So I was like, yeah, stop by really quick.
05:39 Well, I want to show off really quickly because we've been talking about this for weeks now.
05:44 And you guys, my bathrooms are almost done.
05:47 They're not quite done, but we have some before and after photos.
05:50 Let's look at the, this is our guest bathroom.
05:53 So on the left is the before.
05:55 You can see that old, crusty tile.
05:58 That tile was probably there from before I was even born.
06:01 That is old and crusty.
06:02 And so now we have the updated on the right hand side.
06:04 We're still waiting on our mirror, but we're really close.
06:06 And then let's look at the master bathroom because this is the one I'm so proud of.
06:09 Oh, look how pretty she is!
06:11 So this is the bathroom that's in our master bedroom that I use.
06:15 So this is our fancy, like new, nice cabinetry and tile floor.
06:20 Can I make a little design suggestion?
06:23 No, it's already done!
06:25 No, this is something very easy and I'm loving doing this.
06:29 But wallpapers in, and I can see that with some really cool wallpaper in that bathroom.
06:34 I'm definitely not putting wallpaper in.
06:36 Oh my gosh, I would love to go wallpaper that.
06:38 That is way beyond my capability.
06:41 Absolutely not.
06:42 I just wallpapered one of the rooms.
06:44 I want to do it again.
06:45 Really?
06:46 Yeah, it was awesome.
06:47 I agree that wallpaper is coming back for sure.
06:48 I just saw a blank wall, but you said when the mirror is up, it won't be blank.
06:51 The mirror will go up and then it'll be blank.
06:52 All right, hey, after the break, guys, Awkwafed is helping you sell your house without all
06:58 the hassle.
06:59 So stick around.
06:59 We'll be right back.
07:00 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by OfferPad.
07:17 The housing market statistics have come out saying that Arizona housing market is on the
07:23 rise.
07:24 So if you're looking to sell your home, Courtney Reed of OfferPad is here to help.
07:27 Without the hassle, which a lot of people get into, and so it's good to have you here.
07:32 Let's make sure people understand, OfferPad has been around for how long now?
07:35 Oh, we're seven or eight years and we're actually headquartered here in Arizona.
07:38 Yeah, so you guys know what's going on with the market here in Arizona.
07:41 We're seeing people moving in, moving out.
07:42 Right.
07:43 But the big part is people selling their homes.
07:45 And that's something that you guys have pretty much made kind of hassle-free for people because
07:49 we're seeing more and more people doing it.
07:50 Yeah, we try to take out all the friction.
07:53 So the old way of doing real estate, which you've known for 20, 30 years, it's completely
07:57 different with OfferPad.
07:58 We want to make it super simple.
07:59 We want to put on the customer's timeline and just really change the way that real estate
08:03 operates forever.
08:04 Yeah.
08:05 All right, I got some questions here that are very important here because these are
08:07 some things that people have been asking about and you want to make sure you're clear of
08:11 them.
08:12 And one is, how do people request a cash offer?
08:14 Because we hear that a lot out there.
08:15 Yeah, so we're a true cash buyer.
08:18 So what that means is people come to OfferPad.com.
08:20 They take about five minutes with our request form.
08:23 Tell us about your house.
08:24 What's good about it?
08:25 What improvements does it need?
08:26 And then within 24 hours, we're actually going to give them a cash offer on their house.
08:29 And then from there, they get to select their closing date and have a whole bunch of other
08:33 benefits.
08:34 But really, one of the main things that I love is you don't have to have your house
08:36 show ready.
08:37 You don't have to have a whole bunch of strangers in and out of your house.
08:40 We're going to buy it directly from you.
08:42 I like that because that's what worries people.
08:43 It's like, OK, because, I mean, we say the good old days where I remember my parents
08:48 selling their house where we had to plan something to do.
08:50 We couldn't be in the house for like four or five hours.
08:52 Yeah, you're gone for the weekend.
08:53 You've got to put the dogs away.
08:54 You have to make sure it's spotless every day.
08:56 None of that.
08:57 Yeah, I like that.
08:58 OK, let's talk about, of course, real estate agents.
09:01 And do you help with the real estate agents, work with them?
09:04 Yeah, so we've worked with real estate agents since we started.
09:06 We're actually founded by a real estate agent.
09:08 So we're very agent friendly.
09:09 We want agents to reach out to us, and they can come to us on behalf of their client and
09:13 request that same cash offer within 24 hours.
09:16 So then they can go and they can sit down with their client and say, listen, we can
09:19 put your house on the market.
09:20 Here's what you may or may not get for it.
09:22 Here's how long that it may be on the market.
09:24 Or you can select OfferPad.
09:25 Here's their cash offer.
09:26 And then you get to select your closing date with us.
09:28 So we're really just a great tool for agents.
09:30 And we actually launched some new programs for agents.
09:33 So I encourage them to check out our website.
09:35 There's a couple different options of ways that they can work with us.
09:38 Yeah, and that's what's so important now, especially as we're just seeing more and more
09:42 things out there, tools and stuff that can confuse some people who are in the real estate
09:44 market.
09:45 And that's where you come in to help them out.
09:46 Yeah, so we want to be able to be there for a customer with or without an agent.
09:49 We want to be there for agents.
09:50 Yeah, just, you know, OfferPad.com and we'll be able to show them all their benefits.
09:54 OK, this one right here is very important.
09:56 You said about benefits.
09:57 What benefits are you referring to and what do you expect when they sell, you know, something
10:02 like that?
10:03 Yeah, so I mentioned that you can select your closing date, which is super beneficial because
10:06 that means that you actually don't have to move twice, right?
10:09 If your other house is going to be ready on a Saturday, you can select with us.
10:13 Do you want to move on Friday, Saturday or Sunday?
10:15 We'll let you stay in the house for up to three days.
10:17 So meaning you don't have to hurry up and pack all your stuff up.
10:20 My favorite benefit is that we actually provide a free local move.
10:23 So if you sell to OfferPad, we'll pay for the movers and get you packed up on your timeline.
10:28 Yeah, I'll tell you, this is great because, you know, there's people that are, I'm not
10:31 going to say afraid of real estate agents, but they kind of like, OK, don't know how
10:36 to work with them.
10:37 That's where OfferPad comes in because then you walk people through with the tools that
10:41 you have.
10:42 Yeah, so, you know, everybody has kind of different needs in a different situation.
10:45 So there's some people that want more hand-holding.
10:47 They want to work with a real estate agent.
10:48 They want to work closer with OfferPad.
10:50 There's some people that just want to do everything online, right?
10:52 They just want to be able to come to us, tell me where to sign, when to sign, tell me what
10:56 day I want to select for my closing date.
10:59 They just want to be done with it.
11:00 They want to be able to move on.
11:02 No one's really looking to put extra money or effort into the house that they're currently
11:05 in.
11:06 They want to move in and they want to put all their focus on their new house.
11:09 Do you help people find new houses too?
11:10 Oh yeah, absolutely.
11:11 Yeah, so we buy the houses.
11:13 So OfferPad, ourselves, we have a whole bunch of houses that we sell.
11:17 But then, yeah, of course, we're a real estate company.
11:19 We have brokerage.
11:20 So we're able to help people really align.
11:23 We can help them find their next house.
11:24 They can sell their current house and then just align all the closing dates.
11:27 We also do mortgages.
11:28 So we're able to really provide it all for people.
11:31 And it's not just here in the Phoenix area, is it?
11:34 You guys are everywhere, right?
11:35 All over Arizona?
11:36 Right.
11:37 So we've been in Phoenix.
11:38 We started in Phoenix.
11:39 Like I mentioned, we're headquartered in Phoenix.
11:40 And then we're in markets.
11:41 We're in about 1,200, 1,300 cities across the US.
11:44 So we're able to help people too.
11:45 Like if you live here but you're going to be moving to Dallas.
11:49 We're able to help you in that situation too.
11:51 Wow, Courtney, that's awesome.
11:52 All right, where can people find out more about Offerpad?
11:54 Offerpad.com.
11:55 They'll request that free, no obligation cash offer at Offerpad.com.
11:59 There it is.
12:00 Thank you.
12:01 Thank you so much.
12:02 This is great.
12:03 All right.
12:04 So there you go.
12:05 When you sell a house, they got you.
12:06 Yeah.
12:07 All right, coming up, it is still Heart Health Month.
12:08 And Dignity Health is making sure you're keeping your ticker going strong when the next returns.
12:17 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored by Offerpad.
12:28 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by Dignity Health.
12:34 Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans yearly.
12:38 And even though February is Heart Month, we should be focusing on heart health every month.
12:43 And here to talk about how to prevent cardiovascular disease is cardiologist Dr. Suzanne Soroff.
12:49 Welcome, doctor.
12:50 Thank you for being here.
12:51 Thank you, Lexi, for having me today.
12:52 So I want to start by talking about heart disease and just kind of a general overview,
12:57 who it affects, how we know it's affecting us.
12:59 Just kind of give us some of those tips.
13:02 So heart disease affects all of us.
13:04 In fact, starting at age eight, we start developing atherosclerotic plaques.
13:10 But genetically, we're genetically coded to have disease if it's in our family.
13:16 So people who have things in their family like blood pressure and diabetes, valve disease,
13:21 arrhythmias, it's really important to know your own history that you're given by your
13:26 parents and grandparents and also what you bring to the table based on blood work or
13:32 testing that you've had.
13:34 Gotcha.
13:35 Okay, yeah, this was something that we were just kind of talking about before we started
13:38 here saying that there are some things that you can't help, your genetic history, just
13:43 the way that your body is made.
13:45 But there are some things that you can help, the things that you eat, how active you are.
13:49 So before we get into kind of some more of the tips and things that you would say to
13:55 prevent, tell me a little bit about who is the most at risk.
13:59 I know you said everybody.
14:00 Yeah.
14:01 But I know that women are slightly higher risk than men.
14:04 Right.
14:05 So if we go through menopause and perimenopause forward, we're really at high risk.
14:09 We're about 10 years after men start developing heart disease.
14:13 But really it's what genetically and what we have as part of our medical background.
14:19 So if you have hypertension and diabetes and you've been tested for cholesterol and it's
14:24 elevated or you've smoked cigarettes, if you're not physically active, that's another risk
14:30 factor.
14:31 So all those things together cause vascular, heart disease, stroke.
14:37 You can have arrhythmias and all of these things affect us.
14:40 And as we go through our lives and after menopause especially, women are really predisposed.
14:46 And in fact, by tenfold, it's the number one killer that most women will die of heart disease
14:52 in way before the second most common, which would be breast cancer.
14:56 Wow.
14:57 Oh my goodness.
14:58 Those numbers are really staggering and kind of a little scary.
15:02 And I know we're not here to scare anybody.
15:03 We're just here to give the information.
15:05 So talk a little bit about screenings and things that we can do to be really aware and
15:10 know what's going on in our bodies.
15:12 So the most important thing is having a really good relationship with your physician.
15:15 You want to have someone that you trust that will actually ask you questions that could
15:20 be really important for what could be a diagnosis of hypertension, some symptomatology you may
15:28 be having, headaches, problems sleeping, things that you may need to see a cardiologist for.
15:35 And before we continue, I want to stop you really quickly because I did read in our notes
15:39 that the symptoms are different for women than for men.
15:41 That's right.
15:42 So for women, when we have heart attacks, most of the time we're going to have chest
15:47 pain or heaviness.
15:49 But sometimes in some people, it might just be feeling short of breath, feeling very weak,
15:55 fatigued, an impending sense of doom.
15:58 These are things that women will say that might point us that, hey, there might be something
16:03 wrong with your heart, your blood vessels, blood flows not getting to where it needs
16:07 to be.
16:08 Okay.
16:09 So for women out there, these are the things to be looking out for.
16:11 And having that relationship with your doctor is so, so imperative.
16:16 Imperative.
16:17 I love that word.
16:18 Imperative that you have a good relationship, get screened.
16:21 And if there's any question or you don't know, if you don't know your history, when we all
16:26 go for pap smears and mammograms, we start doing it routinely.
16:30 Heart disease also screening should be routine.
16:33 And it should be at least when we're in our 40s, especially when we're having family history
16:39 of heart disease.
16:40 100%.
16:41 And it's kind of like what you were saying earlier that this is something that affects
16:45 women way more than something like breast cancer.
16:48 So yeah, we do go in for our mammograms and that's great.
16:50 But this should be something that we take just as seriously.
16:54 Just as serious.
16:55 And it's actually more deadly.
16:56 Most of the hospitalizations are from heart, heart related, blood pressure, stroke, heart
17:01 attack, vascular disease.
17:03 This is what we see most often in the hospital.
17:05 My goodness.
17:06 All right, doctor.
17:07 Well, thank you for the information.
17:08 Very quickly, tell everybody where they can find more information and work with you.
17:10 I'm down at St. Joseph's Hospital at the Heart Vascular Clinic.
17:14 We have availability to be seen anytime.
17:16 If anyone has questions or concern, we're happy to help them.
17:19 All right, doctor.
17:20 Thank you so much for this.
17:21 This was some great information.
17:23 I hope you're watching.
17:24 I hope you take this very seriously.
17:26 Stick around because we have more of The Mix coming up after this.
17:32 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored by Dignity Health.
17:42 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
17:47 It's me.
17:49 Because everybody else in this room probably was not alive when I was having this.
17:57 Days of our lives.
17:58 We're talking soap operas.
17:59 Oh, Stu maybe would know.
18:00 Okay.
18:01 Okay.
18:02 He would know.
18:03 All right, this is the whole thing.
18:04 The reason why I know soap operas is that's how us guys would meet girls in college.
18:09 Because they would have a class.
18:10 Did you see the young and the restless yesterday?
18:13 And they're like, "We didn't."
18:14 And then we would because we were home.
18:15 All my children.
18:16 And we would give them an insight of what they missed.
18:18 Which ones did you watch?
18:19 Did you watch all of them?
18:20 We watched Days of our Lives, Young and the Restless, and General Hospital.
18:25 General Hospital.
18:26 You didn't watch all my children?
18:27 That was not mine.
18:28 That was actually my friend Randy's job.
18:31 I watched all my children because my mom watched it.
18:33 And it had Susan Lucci, the queen of soap operas.
18:37 Yeah, that's what we do.
18:38 Watch them.
18:39 So.
18:40 Anyway, welcome back to the Arizona Daily Mix, everybody.
18:41 No, it's not Days of our Lives.
18:42 But it's a soap opera.
18:43 But it feels like it sometimes.
18:46 Anyway, still to come on this show, the Scottish Games are in town and we are getting a look
18:53 at what you can expect out there.
18:54 Yeah.
18:55 That's awesome.
18:56 We're dancing, kilts, all kinds of fun stuff.
18:57 So, it's really cool.
18:58 Very cool.
18:59 Also, Bobbo is giving back in a big way.
19:04 Find out how you can snag some cool baseball items and help a cause.
19:08 And so we're going to talk with them in just a little bit.
19:10 And grab some delicious food.
19:11 Yeah, same time.
19:12 They do it all.
19:13 Hey, here at the CW7, we have an amazing lineup for you.
19:17 And I want to tell you all about it.
19:18 So, starting this afternoon, we have two hours of your favorite funny man.
19:23 That's Steve Harvey with Family Feud.
19:25 That starts at four.
19:26 We follow that up with the Big Bang Theory, which brings on the laughs at six and six
19:29 thirty.
19:30 Then, we have our new CW primetime lineup.
19:35 The brand new Wild Card.
19:36 That starts at seven.
19:37 We follow that up with Family Law at eight.
19:39 You've got to check those out.
19:41 And it's your favorite funny man again at nine.
19:43 And hang in there for the craziest sitcom on TV, which is Mom.
19:47 That starts at ten.
19:48 It is all about the smiles here at CW7.
19:51 As we like to say, it's all good.
19:53 Ah, there it is.
19:55 Also, it's pretty good.
19:56 And that is going to a spring training baseball game.
19:59 Absolutely.
20:00 Because we are excited.
20:01 CW7 and Spinalto's Pizzeria and Family Kitchen are teaming up to send you out to the ballpark.
20:05 All you have to do is simply head over to aztv.com/win.
20:08 And enter for your chance to score four.
20:11 Yes, it's four tickets to a game.
20:13 There's nothing better than a day at the ballpark with the family and thanks to Spinalto's for
20:20 making it all happen.
20:21 That's right.
20:22 You can go with the whole fam.
20:23 Because you got one, two, three, four tickets, ladies and gentlemen.
20:26 Four.
20:27 Well, we should give them seven.
20:28 In case you got a big family.
20:29 Seven.
20:30 Yeah, I saw it.
20:31 Seven.
20:32 I said seven.
20:33 Seven.
20:34 Yeah, seven.
20:35 Because I started to realize seven would be an odd number, so we'll give them six.
20:36 All right.
20:37 Hey, if you are an avid reader like I am, then you might have heard of the book Chicken
20:42 Soup for the Soul.
20:43 And if you haven't, we're about to introduce you to the author behind that classic.
20:48 Yes, Pat sat down with Mark Victor Hansen and his wife, Crystal, to discuss their latest
20:52 book that's flying off the shelves.
20:55 When you do interviews with authors, the publishing companies call, and I've never gotten a call
21:08 about the author of the Bible or any of them.
21:12 But the one that comes closest to the numbers of books sold seems to be Chicken Soup for
21:19 the Soul.
21:20 And everybody's saying, "Are they there?"
21:23 Yes, they are.
21:25 Mr. and Mrs. Chicken Soup.
21:27 Mark Victor Hansen, Crystal Dwyer Hansen.
21:32 I want to make sure that we have the entire formal introduction done.
21:38 And I have no idea what the numbers are, but I wonder if you do when it comes to the phenomenon
21:44 of Chicken Soup for the Soul.
21:46 You and your co-author.
21:48 Jack Canfield, have over 500 million and 264 different iterations in 54 languages and
21:55 done 2 billion at retail, a billion at licensing and not stopping.
21:59 One of the Bible guys is out there saying, "What did we go wrong?
22:03 Why did we do this?"
22:05 That's not true because I did Chicken Soup for the Soul Bible.
22:08 I went to our publisher and said, "Will you let me do it?"
22:10 And he said, "Nobody will buy it."
22:12 So I said, "Good.
22:13 Write a note."
22:14 And I took it to Thomas Nelson and he took it and it sold 70,000 a week at Walmart because
22:19 I made it non-intimidating with a purple cover and a gray interior.
22:23 So we're here not to sell even more Chicken Soup for the Soul copies because you don't
22:28 need help with that.
22:29 You don't really need help with the books that we're going to be talking about.
22:34 But I've always wanted to ask, pardon me, Crystal, because we're going to get around
22:38 to you for the whole rest of the interview.
22:40 Please.
22:41 When was the first time that you ever heard the phrase or said the phrase, "Let's do Chicken
22:48 Soup for the Soul?"
22:50 Jack called me in 1989 when we'd worked on a book for three years together and it was
22:55 2.58 in the morning.
22:56 I woke up my whole house because my daughter was becoming a veterinarian.
22:59 We had 88 animals on an acre and said, "Chicken Soup for the Soul."
23:02 We had it.
23:03 We got goose bumps and 144 publishers said, "Hit the road, Jack."
23:07 And I said, "I'm a nice guy.
23:08 You'll let us do this."
23:09 What a great title for a song.
23:10 Yeah.
23:11 "Hit the Road, Jack."
23:12 And by the way, I hope you got your version of that kind of response when you found out
23:23 the results of Ask, The Bridge from Your Dreams to Your Destiny by Mark Victor Hanson and
23:30 Crystal Dwyer Hanson.
23:33 Talk to us, everybody, about what it is that you're asking for in the book.
23:38 Well, Ask, The Bridge from Your Dreams to Your Destiny is all about learning the art
23:43 and science of asking.
23:44 And you know, Pat, it's funny because that little word seems so benign, but it will deliver
23:49 seismic results in your life.
23:52 Because we really don't get what we deserve in life.
23:55 We get what we ask for.
23:56 And most people are really afraid to ask or they don't know how to ask.
24:01 And Mark and I are so privileged to travel across the world, meet so many people.
24:06 And what we started to notice is those people who are masterful at life also happen to be
24:12 masterful askers.
24:15 And we knew we were on to something because we started examining our own life.
24:18 Like how can we help people do better?
24:20 And we realized that at every juncture, when we were stuck, when we were lost, confused,
24:25 when we had a huge trial or tribulation, it was asking our way forward that delivered
24:32 a new solution, a new plan, a new direction to us.
24:38 And that if you don't learn to ask, you get stuck in a downward cycle.
24:43 It's really brilliant what just learning to ask will do.
24:48 Mark not long ago introduced me, in fact, to the book that has now been introduced to
24:54 -- how successful is this book?
24:57 I mean, for crying out loud, Crystal, there's no room in your home for humility, including
25:01 you.
25:02 Well, it's doing amazingly well.
25:05 We've sold -- I mean, we literally have businesses, business leaders who read the book and say,
25:11 you know, send me cases of this book.
25:13 It's a bestseller.
25:14 Oh, it's a bestseller.
25:15 It was a bestseller right away.
25:16 Yeah, it was absolutely a bestseller.
25:17 Even during COVID.
25:18 Yeah, yeah, even during COVID.
25:20 And we almost stopped the book because COVID hit.
25:23 We were ready to launch it.
25:24 And we talked to our publisher and he said, you know what, if you guys are good, let's
25:27 go for this.
25:28 And as it turned out, people needed this book right then because all of us were lost and
25:34 confused.
25:35 We were locked at home and no one had any answers.
25:38 There's chicken soup for the soul in every possible form.
25:43 Ask relatively new, but still out long enough that it has become a massive success.
25:50 And what else is in the world of Hanson Publishing?
25:53 Well, first of all, we teach you get to ask in three channels.
25:56 Ask yourself, ask others, and then ask God.
26:00 And you've got to do it and not necessarily in that order.
26:03 And then number two is that what she's too humble to say is that we wrote the book together,
26:07 but she started writing this wonderful fable that your wife Duffy fell in love with called
26:11 The Fable of Michaela.
26:13 And our agent calls up and said, look, the people that want to buy your movie is 10 minutes
26:17 from your house.
26:18 I said, look, you know, I'm world's bestselling author and you and I are great friends.
26:22 But I said, I know everybody here, but I didn't know Pure Flix had just made God's Not Dead.
26:27 So he said, they want you to come over.
26:29 We went over there on my sonny a firm.
26:30 They said, we're going to do it.
26:31 And then COVID hit, of course, and now they're ready to do it again tomorrow.
26:34 We finalized starting in Malta, which is our dream.
26:38 We're in Malta and it's a place of kings and queens.
26:40 Everybody who reads this story gets goose bumps, God bumps, chili bumps.
26:44 And that's why it's going to usurp or transition or eclipse chicken soup for the soul.
26:49 Everyone needs to know how to ask so you can go from here to there, from your dreams, your
26:53 destiny.
26:54 And I'm not here to sell books.
26:55 I'm here to introduce you to people.
26:57 And you may be interested in picking up a well, chicken soup for the soul.
27:01 You can't even find because they're sold.
27:04 But ask and anything else under the Hanson label.
27:09 And I'm asking you in particular with this book, read the first few pages.
27:15 And I dare you to put it down.
27:17 I'm Patrick Mahan.
27:18 [MUSIC]
27:28 >> Babo Italian Petery is in the swing of giving back to the community with their third
27:38 annual Baseball for Babo Day of Giving event.
27:41 And joining us here on the mix is Taylor to tell us how you can win some cool baseball
27:46 and help fight cancer and enjoy some great food too.
27:50 So Lexi's been there.
27:52 I've not been there.
27:53 And for those people out there, tell us a little about Babo.
27:55 >> Yeah, we've been in the valley for over 20 years.
27:58 We've eight locations.
28:00 We're in every neck of the neighborhood.
28:02 We've got one centrally located in Phoenix, the East Valley, Goodyear, Surprise, Cave
28:09 Creek.
28:10 So there's one in every corner.
28:11 >> I like that.
28:12 And with this give back, all of them are doing something, right?
28:15 >> Yep.
28:16 >> To help out.
28:17 >> Yes.
28:18 >> Which is important here.
28:19 And it's about memorabilia and also food that we have going on.
28:21 So let's first talk about the memorabilia because that's what we have out here.
28:23 Because this is like true memorabilia here.
28:25 We're talking Mickey Mantle baseballs.
28:28 We're talking Hank Aaron.
28:29 We're talking Babe Ruth.
28:30 We're talking a lot of stuff out here that you have going on.
28:33 >> Yes.
28:34 Yeah.
28:35 So we're doing our Day of Giving to help fund pancreatic cancer research.
28:39 One of the things that we're doing is a raffle and silent auction for this baseball memorabilia.
28:44 So we have some really cool items.
28:46 We have signed Mickey Mantle baseball, Mickey Mantle photo, Hank Aaron signed bat, and just
28:51 some really, really cool items for collectors.
28:54 And you can buy tickets right now or bid for the silent auction at our website.
28:59 >> Yeah.
29:00 So you're saying right now.
29:01 I can go on.
29:02 >> Yes.
29:03 It's live today.
29:04 Yep.
29:05 You can do it.
29:06 And through tomorrow, which is our Day of Giving, where you can come into the restaurant,
29:08 eat, and all of the profits are going to be donated to pancreatic cancer research.
29:12 >> I love that.
29:13 So you're going to have all meals or you have a special meal that people can order?
29:16 >> No, anything.
29:17 So you can come dine in.
29:19 You can get takeout, buy a gift card, whatever.
29:23 Everything is going to be donated, all of the profits from tomorrow.
29:26 >> And that's starting for lunch or for dinner?
29:28 When's it starting?
29:29 >> All day long.
29:30 >> All day long.
29:31 I love it.
29:32 All right.
29:33 So you're saying if I come and get some lasagna, proceeds go to it.
29:34 >> Yep.
29:35 >> If I come in and get some spaghetti and meatballs, proceeds are going to it.
29:39 >> Yep.
29:40 >> If I just come get the meatballs, proceeds go to it.
29:42 >> Yep.
29:43 >> If you come get takeout, if you come buy a gift card, T-shirt, whatever.
29:46 >> All the proceeds.
29:47 >> All going to be, yep.
29:48 >> I like that.
29:49 And then will this be anywhere?
29:50 Is this mostly online that you're going to take a look at?
29:51 >> This is all online.
29:52 So if you want to see what items we have, I would head over to our website and you can
29:57 buy raffle tickets or bid now for the silent auction items.
30:00 >> And as we said, this is just a little bit of what you have on there, right?
30:02 >> Yeah.
30:03 Yep.
30:04 >> So it's a lot, which is so important.
30:05 And I love that you guys are doing it, especially during spring training.
30:06 >> Yeah.
30:07 >> It's going to be nice because we know that a lot of baseball players come in there to
30:09 get fueled up and hang out there.
30:10 >> Definitely.
30:11 Yep.
30:12 Absolutely.
30:13 >> I like this.
30:14 So, okay, let me ask you a little bit about food now.
30:15 So we know lasagna, we know spaghetti meatballs.
30:18 What else there?
30:19 What about for the kids?
30:20 Is there any favorite dishes for the kids there?
30:21 >> Oh, my gosh.
30:22 Well, we have awesome pizza, which I feel like hits, you know, everybody in the family
30:27 loves pizza.
30:28 >> Yeah.
30:29 >> We also, I mean, for the kids, there's mac and cheese, spaghetti.
30:33 But we have really something for everybody.
30:34 We have a lot of traditional Italian dishes, like you mentioned, the spaghetti and lasagna.
30:38 We also have some healthier options.
30:40 We have really good protein bowls, salads, some like entree protein dishes.
30:46 And we also, we're definitely more of a modern take on Italian cuisine.
30:51 So you can come in and get like a chicken chipotle pasta.
30:54 >> Ooh, nice.
30:55 >> So there's definitely something for everyone.
30:57 >> I like it because our Polish director, Michael Petri, has been to Italy and he knows,
31:02 you know, about eating pasta and everything like that.
31:04 >> Yes.
31:05 Yes.
31:06 Yeah.
31:07 >> And he's been to Italy and all that.
31:08 >> Yeah.
31:09 >> Some very, you know, fancy Italian words I don't know.
31:12 But that's awesome.
31:13 What about desserts?
31:15 >> Our tiramisu is my personal favorite.
31:19 And we're really, you know, we make everything from scratch.
31:23 Everything's made to order.
31:24 So everything just tastes really fresh and it's good.
31:26 >> Yeah, I like that.
31:28 So all right.
31:29 Well, again, it is the big giving day going on tomorrow.
31:33 But right now, they can go to the website, which is?
31:36 >> Babloitalian.com.
31:37 >> There you go.
31:38 All eight locations are doing this.
31:40 And again, all the proceeds are going to help fight and cure cancer, which is very important
31:44 to us in this community and to the people at Bablo.
31:47 >> Yeah.
31:48 >> Bablo.
31:49 There you go.
31:50 Bablo.
31:51 >> Yeah.
31:52 >> Bablo.
31:53 I know Bablo.
31:54 I know Bablo.
31:55 >> No, I know.
31:56 It's a tongue twister.
31:57 >> It is.
31:58 It's fine.
31:59 Thank you, Taylor.
32:00 >> Yeah, thank you.
32:01 >> Don't forget, also, information is on AZTV.com for what we talked about.
32:02 All right.
32:03 Stick around.
32:04 We have more of The Mix coming up after this.
32:04 >> The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by Scottsdale Bullion & Coin.
32:30 >> Anytime we have questions about your options when it comes to investing in finance, we
32:33 talk to Eric from SBC.
32:35 Thanks for doing this.
32:36 >> Well, thanks for having me once again.
32:37 >> There is a term that more and more people are becoming familiar with, and it's the petrodollar
32:41 because of what China is doing in other countries.
32:44 Can you explain what this is and what's going on?
32:46 >> Okay.
32:47 So to kind of summarize it, the petrodollar was what we used to replace the gold standard
32:54 when we went off of the gold standard in '71.
32:57 By '73, we shook hands with Saudi Arabia and the petronations to make sure that they would
33:03 use only U.S. dollars in trade internationally for that of petro.
33:07 So this gave us a stronghold all over the world when it came to our currency dominance
33:13 because they would have to go through us to get to them.
33:17 >> And that was honestly, that was a handshake deal.
33:19 You're not being facetious.
33:20 It really was just a handshake.
33:22 >> Absolutely.
33:23 Not only was it a handshake, but it was something that has given us dominance, you know, since
33:29 the '70s.
33:30 And here we are, you know, in 2023, and for the first time ever, that's being jeopardized
33:36 because China right now sees an opportunity.
33:40 The current administration's very anti-petro, if you would.
33:44 And then we saw China go to Saudi Arabia and then do a diplomatic approach when they brought
33:49 Iran and Saudi Arabia to the table together in peace negotiations.
33:55 And then also immediately following that, we saw for the first time the yuan being exchanged
34:01 for petro out of Saudi Arabia.
34:04 So I mean, this is a huge game changer, and it's something that everybody is going to
34:10 feel eventually.
34:12 >> Isn't India a little involved in this in a way, too, with the petrodollar?
34:15 Aren't they trying to advance in that area?
34:17 >> Not only India, but I mean, there are many nations around the Middle East.
34:22 The more you look into this, the more you're going to find that it is a rabbit hole that
34:27 you're going to tumble down, and the likely outcome here is that we are no longer going
34:31 to reserve our currency as the petro standard, and that is going to possibly jeopardize -- not
34:37 possibly, but it will jeopardize our currency as the reserve currency of the world.
34:43 And the big problem with that is we've got so much debt, what keeps us afloat is the
34:48 fact that we're number one.
34:50 But what if we weren't number one?
34:51 I mean, Mike, I'm sure you probably would have concerns about that.
34:55 >> Right.
34:56 Yeah, and so if that's happening, if the dollar is weakening around the world, which it appears
34:59 like it is, how is gold, or what do you recommend, what is a way to protect yourself?
35:05 >> Well, the reason why gold -- in uncertain times, the only certain thing is gold.
35:11 And the reason why is because you go back as far as you want, gold has always been a
35:14 standard of money worldwide, not just in our country.
35:19 But there's no way that we're going to find in our lifetimes or the next gold not being
35:25 a standard of money.
35:26 And therefore, if you retreat and put money into something like gold, you know it's going
35:32 to be there no matter what happens to the currency that your country provides to your
