A 34-year-old Singaporean man has been detained by the Immigration Department here for overstaying in Malaysia for more than 13 years.

Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir said the suspect was one of five people detained here at around 9.30pm on Sunday (Feb 25).

00:24 construction of a shop on reserve land in Jalan Wadi Hana in Johor Bahru.
00:30 Among them detained were a Singaporean man who has overstayed since 2011.
00:35 Also detained was a Bangladeshi man for violating his social visit pass.
00:39 Meanwhile, in a separate raid, 16 men from Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Egypt, Bangladesh
00:45 and a woman from the Philippines were detained at a popular Middle Eastern restaurant in
00:49 Taman Tasek.
00:51 The suspects, aged 21 to 55, did not have permits or passes enabling them to work in
00:57 the country.
00:58 All those detained will be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying.
