New Lambton Football Club, Secretary, Megan Payne, has won the Good Sports Award, NSW Volunteer of the Year.

00:00 Hi, I'm Megan Payne, I'm Secretary of New Lempton Football Club.

00:02 It's the Good Sports Award, so Good Sports are an organisation that encourage healthy

00:07 behaviours in clubs around drugs and alcohol and mental health.

00:11 And I've won their NSW Volunteer of the Year Award for my role as Secretary of the Club.

00:15 And how long have you been involved with the club for?

00:17 About 10 years, ever since I joined this club I've had various roles.

00:20 I've done some of the event coordination and then I was the Girls and Women's Coordinator

00:24 and I've been the Secretary for about 6 years now.

00:26 It's been one of my passions to encourage girls and particularly at community level

00:30 to participate, not necessarily to be a Matilda but to participate at all those levels.

00:34 So yeah, I'm really proud of the achievement, we've had about a 30% female participation,

00:38 which is one of the highest in the region and our under 6 girls, we have 50/50 split

00:43 girls and boys this year, so that's been one of our goals to aim for, getting a 50/50 split.
