00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has passed two important laws that will give early benefits to senior citizens and strengthen the products and services of the Filipino people.
00:14 Alan Francisco will give you the details.
00:20 Grandma Corazon is now 82 years old and she is happy to hear that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed the law that will allow the Centenarian Act of 2016 under Republic Act No. 11982.
00:35 This means that if before, the grandparents could get P100,000 for a 100-year-old grandchild, now, when the law is being implemented, it will give early benefits to senior citizens starting from the age of 80.
00:50 When the age of 80 comes, a Filipino can receive P10,000, plus P10,000 when the age of 85 comes, and also when the age of 90 comes and 95 comes.
01:02 When the age of 100 comes, he will receive P100,000.
01:08 I am so lucky.
01:10 I will be able to buy food.
01:19 How do you feel now?
01:21 I am very happy.
01:23 I am very happy. Thank you.
01:25 Why?
01:27 Because I was able to receive such a big gift.
01:30 Of course, I have maintenance. I am the only one in the house.
01:37 Can you help?
01:39 I can help.
01:41 For food.
01:48 In President Marcos' speech in Malacanang, he said that the implementation of the Centenarian Act is to recognize the elderly Filipinos.
01:57 Under the new law, Filipinos, upon reaching the age of 80, shall receive a cash gift of P10,000 every five years thereafter, and upon reaching the age of 85, 90, and until 95.
02:12 President Marcos admitted that this cash assistance is not only deserved by senior citizens, but also by the government's other assistance to the general public.
02:22 There were already close to 10 million seniors two years ago.
02:28 There are many of us here who have already crossed that Rubicon line.
02:36 That's why we might be suspected of having passed this bill for ourselves in preparation for our dotage.
02:44 But as this demographic enlarges, the societal facilities that attend to them should be expanded as well.
02:54 Aside from the senior citizens, the Senators are also pleased with President Marcos' implementation of the law.
03:01 According to Senator Bong Revilla, many of our grandparents will benefit from this.
03:07 We know that our grandparents are the ones who are taking care of our workers. We owe a lot to them.
03:17 Senator Sherwin Gatchalian also appraised the expansion of the Centenarian Act because it will give more benefits to the contribution of our elderly Filipinos.
03:28 This will be a proof of the law in their support for the livelihood of our senior citizens.
03:35 Meanwhile, President Marcos also signed the Republic Act No. 11981 or the Tataak Pinoy Act.
03:42 Under this law, the government and private sector will strengthen their assistance in the management of Tataak Pinoy products and services around the world.
03:52 According to President Marcos, more than branding, Tataak Pinoy is an incentive for buying local products.
04:00 It is about creating products and services of the highest quality because Tataak Pinoy is also about excellence.
04:08 And as a seal of great workmanship, it must only be applied to those that meet this high standard.
04:16 And as such, we should give preference and priority to our products.
04:21 According to Senator Sani Angara, the principal author of the bill, this is a good move because Tataak Pinoy's goal is to strengthen the economy through stronger coordination of the government and private sector.
