Well folks, there it is. Suzuki's 2024 GSX-8R middleweight sport bike. This is an
00:06
all-new sport bike entry from Suzuki out of Hamamatsu, Japan to its US lineup for
00:12
2024. This motorcycle is placed adjacently to the GSX-R line of sport
00:17
bikes. Although this is a new sport bike, it's not a competition bike. Of course,
00:22
yes, you can race on it. Yes, you can do track days, but this bike is designed to
00:27
go up against street-friendly bikes like Yamaha's YZF-R7 and Aprilia's RS660.
00:34
Let's begin with the engine. This is an all-new engine for Suzuki. It's 7.7-6 cc
00:40
parallel twin engine. This engine is really neat because it's super compact
00:44
in terms of front to back and in terms of its width. It also has some really
00:49
neat engineering designs in it. The intake right here is horizontal, so the
00:54
airbox is actually right in here. That gave Suzuki a lot more freedom of
00:59
movement in terms of where it could put its powertrain. You have to remember, the
01:03
sister model to this bike is the GSX-8S naked bike, and then we also have
01:08
Suzuki's V-Strom 800, which are motorcycles that have different
01:12
ergonomics, different requirements for different type of terrain. So that's why
01:16
Suzuki wanted such a flexible engine configuration. Now another cool feature
01:21
about this engine is it has twin counterbalancers. So each of the two
01:25
pistons have a counterbalancer, and that really reduces unwanted engine
01:29
vibration. This engine is just so silky smooth, yet it has just the right amount
01:35
of vibration where you literally think this engine is a V-twin. This is the best
01:41
parallel twin that feels like a V-twin experience out of any parallel twin
01:46
engine that we have ridden recently. It is really good. This engine is good for
01:50
right around 75 horsepower at the business end of that 180 series rear
01:55
tire. The engine's hung in this steel, twin-spar steel type frame with a nice
02:01
alloy swing arm hanging off the back. There is the shock absorber. It mounts
02:06
with a linkage to the swing arm and the frame. There is no adjustment aside from
02:12
spring preload. Look at this thing. Up front we have an inverted Showa fork
02:18
where the GSX-8S has KYB suspension. This has Showa suspension. There is no
02:23
adjustment, but we were really impressed with the damping calibration of the OE
02:29
suspenders. This motorcycle doesn't even need adjustment because the damping
02:33
response is calibrated so well for street riding and truck riding. This was
02:38
a very, very capable motorcycle to ride over bumpy surface streets and at the
02:42
racing track. Look at that front end. I love this stacked LED headlight. It looks
02:48
so tasty. We have this nice 5-inch color TFT display right there. There's also
02:55
three-position traction control. Of course, we disabled it and Suzuki's tried
03:00
and true SDMS, adjustable engine power mode. A is the most power, B is a little
03:05
bit less, and C is a little bit less than that. Really sharp. We love setting up the
03:10
instrument display with a black background and white fonts just like our
03:14
iOS equipped smartphone. Here's the cockpit. 3.7 gallon fuel tank powers this
03:21
motorcycle. There's a rider seat. There is the passenger seat. Suzuki also makes a
03:25
number of really great accessories if you want to make your bike a little more
03:29
racy with a nicely designed seat cover on this. Now we were riding here
03:34
today at the track on Dunlop Sportmax Q5S, which is a high-performance
03:38
street bike tire, but this tire, this bike rolls on Suzuki's Road Smartmax Road
03:45
Sport 2. That is OE configuration, but Suzuki wanted to put a little bit
03:49
grippier tire for us to have some fun with at the track. Well folks, that's a
03:54
quick rundown of Suzuki's 2024 GSX-8R Sportbike. This thing rings in for $9,349
04:05
here in the United States. It comes with a one-year warranty, and it's made in
04:10
Hamamatsu, Japan. If you're looking for a cool, easy riding sport bike, this GSX-8R
04:18
checks a lot of boxes. It's very comfortable. It's very fun to ride. It's
04:23
not as racy feeling as a GSX-R Sportbike, but considering the high level of
04:29
comfort you can have on this bike, its versatility for riding on the street and
04:34
track while still delivering good comfort and having track control, having
04:39
a really slick electronic quick shifter, this bike is pretty awesome. Well folks,
04:44
as always, make sure to surf on over to MotorcyclistOnline.com. That's where all
04:48
of our written content comes to life. Give this video a thumbs up if you liked
04:51
it, thumbs it down if you didn't, because we'd love to hear from the naysayers out
04:55
there. Everyone's opinion counts here at Motorcyclist Magazine, and we'll see in
04:58
the next episode. Thanks for riding with us.
