00:00 You know, to have that winner mentality by any means almost.
00:04 What's up guys? I'm Playmaker Nyree and this is Beyond the Buzzer.
00:08 I'm here to show you what these athletes' lives look like when the clock hits zero.
00:11 Three, two, one.
00:13 [buzzer]
00:15 [knocking]
00:19 -Caden, what's up? -What's good?
00:21 Welcome to a day in my life here in Denver.
00:23 Thank you. Nice crib.
00:26 Yeah, something slight.
00:27 Caden Stearns is a third-year safety for the Denver Broncos out of Texas.
00:33 Nicknamed the Wolf by long-worn fans.
00:36 A season-ending injury kept QB safe this year,
00:39 but I got a chance to catch up with him on his recovery
00:42 to see how an NFL player enjoys Denver.
00:46 I'm excited to see what your day holds.
00:48 Yeah, it holds a lot.
00:50 What's the first thing we're doing?
00:52 We're finna get ready to go to the gym.
00:54 Go to the gym?
00:55 And do some recovery.
00:55 I'm about to work out like an NFL athlete today.
00:59 A little bit if I was healthy.
01:00 So we'll probably do just a little rehab
01:03 and maybe a little pump lift after that.
01:05 Okay.
01:06 So you have been injured this past season.
01:10 Yeah.
01:10 Right?
01:10 Talk about your injury a little bit.
01:12 What exactly happened?
01:13 So I tore my patella tendon.
01:15 As you can kind of see,
01:17 I don't have as much mobility in this knee right here.
01:19 So yeah, kind of happened on a kind of routine play.
01:25 And this is kind of my second year being hurt.
01:28 So I'm kind of back to the drawing board.
01:30 Right.
01:32 How have you been like mentally through the injury?
01:34 At first it was--
01:35 It's tough.
01:36 It was definitely tough, you know, again,
01:38 because I was hurt last year.
01:39 So mentally kind of up and down.
01:42 You had your days where it's not too good,
01:44 especially when you go into rehab
01:46 knowing that you're not going to be back this year
01:48 and you kind of have to see the bigger picture.
01:49 Right.
01:50 All right.
01:50 Well, you're making your way there.
01:52 So I say we head to the gym and start working it out.
01:56 Let's do it.
01:56 So growing up, you grew up in like a big sports family,
02:00 like your brothers are athletes.
02:02 How was the competitive nature growing up in that household?
02:05 It was a lot.
02:06 You know, we all competed with each other,
02:08 whether it be big or small, backyard football,
02:11 making anything a competition.
02:14 So honestly, it was really good for healthy competition as well.
02:17 We kind of push each other to be the best we can be.
02:19 So what have you learned from your brothers
02:21 growing up competing with them?
02:22 You know, again, really just tough love.
02:25 Yeah, tough love for sure.
02:26 And then obviously just, you know,
02:30 to have that winner mentality
02:32 and kind of by any means, almost as a game,
02:37 things kind of got a little hectic between us a lot.
02:39 So we kind of just competed way too much,
02:42 probably more than we should have.
02:44 But were you always winning?
02:46 No, it was definitely a lot of losing for sure.
02:49 A lot of losing.
02:50 You have to learn the hard way.
02:52 It's not straight to the top.
02:54 You got to learn the hard way for sure.
02:56 Um, I mean, I'm sure you being on the Broncos,
03:04 you've met, you know, obviously Russell Wilson.
03:07 He's on that team.
03:07 Talk about him as kind of like a leader and a teammate.
03:10 Yeah, but you can kind of like talk to him about anything.
03:13 You know, he's kind of been around.
03:15 He's 30-ish, around 30 plus.
03:18 He's kind of old.
03:19 But he's doing things the right way.
03:23 So very successful dude.
03:25 But, you know, he's kind of had to navigate through,
03:28 you know, getting blasted by the media as well from last year.
03:34 He's never paid attention to any of that
03:36 and just kind of stayed in his own world
03:38 and believed in himself.
03:39 So he seems like the kind of guy, like he'll get, you know, all this.
03:44 He's very criticized, highly criticized in the media.
03:46 Obviously, everyone that, you know, watches the game knows that.
03:49 He's the type of guy, though, you'll hear it the day before.
03:52 And then the next day, he's the happiest guy on the field.
03:54 And you can barely tell that anyone's saying anything.
03:56 Yeah, he will never, you will never notice that it bothers him.
03:59 And he kind of, he shows up the same every day.
04:02 Very positive, very, you know,
04:06 he's going to always have something positive to say.
04:09 And it's like crazy to me, because if it was me,
04:11 if it was me, you know, it definitely, you know,
04:16 as it would a lot of people kind of like bother them.
04:18 So, right.
04:19 Yeah, I have nothing but respect for him.
04:21 How about the Bronco Country? Let's ride.
04:26 Oh, that was hilarious.
04:27 Can you give me one of those?
04:28 Let's ride.
04:30 Well, I mean, I do it for fun and I kind of like mimic it.
04:33 But if you think about it, it's kind of smart.
04:35 He done made a lot of money.
04:36 It is, no, it's fire.
04:38 I just want, I want to see you do it.
04:40 A nice little impression.
04:44 Broncos Country, let's ride.
04:46 That's good. That's good.
04:47 Broncos Country, let's ride.
04:49 Broncos Country, let's ride.
04:52 Broncos Country, let's ride.
04:56 All right, what's next in the workout?
04:57 I want to get in it with you.
04:59 Oh, you want to get in it?
04:59 Like, I want to, you know.
05:01 All right, bet.
05:02 I'm ready to train like a, you know, a pro athlete.
05:05 Let's do it.
05:06 One minute later.
05:08 I actually can't do this no more.
05:09 You don't understand how much more.
05:13 This is the last set.
05:14 All you got to do is keep going.
05:15 So.
05:17 How does it look like you're not even like affected right now?
05:20 Well, I've been doing this.
05:22 I've been doing this for a couple of weeks now, so.
05:23 Chucks, when I first.
05:26 I can't move.
05:28 Yeah.
05:29 Like, I can't, I'm done.
05:31 I quit.
05:32 I would not last in the NFL.
05:35 Yeah, you done made it though, so that's all that matters.
05:37 While the Broncos are missing Kaden on the defensive side of the ball this year,
05:42 the Broncos are on a five game winning streak and holding the number two spot
05:47 in the division at the time of filming.
05:50 We know Broncos country awaits Kaden's return,
05:53 but you know, I had to ask his thoughts on the rest of the league as he sees it.
05:58 All right, so I know you've been saying like you're still, you know,
06:02 keeping up with what's happening in the NFL.
06:04 Yeah.
06:05 I want to ask you, do you have any predictions?
06:07 Super Bowl predictions?
06:08 And the Ravens look good and the Eagles look good.
06:12 But honestly, it's just about making it to the playoffs.
06:15 Yeah.
06:16 And I think it happened from there.
06:18 Yes, most definitely.
06:18 But I have to say right now,
06:21 the Ravens and the Eagles look pretty good right now.
06:26 So I think those may be the favorites.
06:28 Who's like a dream athlete to play with past or present?
06:33 Like it could be all time.
06:34 Past or present.
06:36 Someone that you've always wanted to be teammates with, play with.
06:40 Oh, I kind of grew up, which is weird.
06:43 I grew up like a Colt fan.
06:44 So I mean, I guess you play for the Broncos.
06:47 You know, Peyton Manning.
06:48 OK, no, that's I mean, that's a good answer.
06:50 You can't go wrong with that.
06:52 Other than that, I kind of like, you know, I respect athletes for, you know,
06:56 what they do on the field and stuff like that.
06:58 But as far as playing like and kind of idolizing them in that manner,
07:01 I don't really do that.
07:04 Yeah.
07:04 I definitely say Peyton Manning.
07:07 Thank you.
07:08 Oh, my God, this is beautiful.
07:10 Yeah, knowing that you have this like at your fingertips is crazy.
07:13 Yeah. Nice pool.
07:14 You see the mountains from here.
07:17 That's the best part.
07:18 It's crazy.
07:19 What do you like about Denver?
07:20 So what's your favorite thing about Denver so far?
07:22 I would have to say the mountains.
07:23 So about two hours away from Vail.
07:25 Once your knee gets better, you got to hit hiking up there.
07:29 Hike, ski.
07:30 Yeah, maybe.
07:32 I'm allowed to.
07:33 Terrify the maybe.
07:35 Yeah, but I'd say the mountains.
07:36 Also, there's a lot of good food here too.
07:39 What's your favorite kind of food?
07:40 Right now, I'm into Mexican food.
07:42 Mexican food.
07:43 What's your go to order?
07:44 It depends.
07:46 It really depends.
07:46 You like spicy food?
07:48 I like street.
07:48 Oh, yes, most definitely.
07:49 But I'm a little bit of a hot sauce.
07:52 They have like little hole in the walls here,
07:55 but they have like a brunch spot called My Neighbor Felix, which is pretty good.
07:59 The Texas kid is having no problem adjusting to the mile high city.
08:04 But you know, I can't travel to a new place without sampling some local flavors.
08:10 Cheers, guys.
08:10 Let's start here.
08:11 Cheers, guys.
08:12 Yeah, so it's been a long day.
08:16 It has.
08:16 Very productive day.
08:17 My arms are so much.
08:19 You get used to it.
08:20 Starts to be, it's a good source.
08:23 You need to put some work in, but I'm not one.
08:26 Mike McDaniel hit me up.
08:27 Time to unwind and time to put in some work on the video game.
08:33 Oh, gamer boy over here.
08:36 I just want to say thank you for letting me hang out with you all day.
08:39 It was nice to see like the actual behind the scenes of, you know, what your life looks like,
08:43 especially during your recovery and everything.
08:45 I appreciate you guys for having some time with me.
08:48 Right. Have fun on the game.
08:49 Yes, ma'am. Thank you so much for coming.
08:52 After a long day of city views and lifting weights, it's time for Kaden to wind down.
08:57 Shout out to Kaden for letting us see what a day in his life looks like during his recovery process.
09:04 We can't wait to see him get back on the field.
09:07 Stay locked in to see who we spend the day with next.
