A timeline of the BT Tower as iconic landmark set to become hotel

00:13 The tower began construction in 1961 and was finished by 1964. Originally called the Post

00:20 Office Tower, it was an exciting new addition to the capital, but within a few months it

00:24 was the centre of a tragic tale after a man fell from the top of the building after not

00:29 being stopped by security. Used as an antenna to over 160,000 stations when it first opened,

00:36 it was then available for the public to enter from 1966. Fast forward to 1984 and Noel Edmonds

00:44 presents a 20 year anniversary breakfast show on Christmas day from the top of the tower,

00:50 which has now been bought by BT. Over the last 20 years, it's become famous for its

00:55 ring like LED screens displaying iconic messages including the countdown to the London Olympics

01:01 before 2012 and the late Queen Elizabeth's first ever tweet. Now though, it is set to

01:07 become a hotel. A statement from BT confirmed that the BT Group had agreed the sale of the
