00:00 I'd always dreamed of travelling and moving to Australia. I'd been saving on and off what
00:09 I could for the last 7 years but as I got older and my 30s were fast approaching I didn't
00:14 actually think it would ever happen. One year ago I was living in London, working in a senior
00:18 corporate position in the tech industry and was ignoring all signs of burnout. This is
00:23 a video of me baking banana bread at 11pm after just finishing and prepping for a presentation
00:27 the next day. I never got to finish that presentation. I lost my speech and sight during it and then
00:31 spent the next 3 days in hospital. When I returned to work after being signed off for
00:35 a month I really struggled. Even though I had my dream job on paper something always
00:39 felt missing. I kept chasing the next promotion, pay rise project but for what? After many
00:43 tears I convinced myself that surely there was more to life than the cycle I was in.
00:48 We handed on notice in our jobs and then had 3 months to add to as much of our savings
00:51 as possible. We were in a really fortunate position to be able to move back in with my
00:54 parents up north for one month which really helped add to our savings. We commuted to
00:58 London from Liverpool most weeks which was expensive but it was nothing compared to the
01:01 £2,500 a month we were paying in rent and bills. We had the best leaving parties in
01:06 London and at home and I was feeling so so grateful to be surrounded by people who were
01:10 cheering us on. And now exactly one year since I was in hospital we have just finished the
01:14 most amazing 7 months travel in South East Asia and Australia. We've signed a 12 month
01:18 lease for a new flat in Melbourne, we've both got good jobs and a good salary working in
01:22 hospitality. I'm able to switch off after a shift for the first time in my 20s and rent
01:26 over here is half compared to what we were paying in London so we're able to actually
01:29 save more money in this amazing country. So if you are approaching 30 and feeling a little
01:33 lost I promise it is not too late.
01:35 Peace.
