Richard E. Grant has been in some incredible films, including Emerald Fennell's much-talked about Saltburn. Richard said that Emerald didn't have a silver spoon when trying to make it in directing and also reflected in THOSE cheeky Barry Keoghan scenes. Report by Jonesl. 00:00 Wow, what a film. Did you ever expect the world to react to Saltburn like they have?
00:03 No. I think that Emeril Fonaire had a genius thing where she said that every family should
00:09 sit down together before Christmas, grandmothers and grandchildren, and watch Saltburn. And
00:14 people took her at her word.
00:17 Tell me about the talent of Emeril. What was she like to work with?
00:21 She's unbelievably hard working. I've known her since she was 13 and she's been writing
00:25 prodigiously ever since. Nobody works harder than she does. So all the stuff about her
00:31 having a silver spoon and a tattered privilege, she's no overnight success. She's been doing
00:35 it a long, long, long time.
00:37 And in regards to Barry, what a talent he is. Was it fascinating to see him doing the
00:41 improv on set?
00:44 I wasn't there for his nude scene. Is that what you're talking about?
00:47 Well, if you wish you were.
00:48 Oh, where he's s*** the grave. No, I wasn't there for that either. I only saw it when
00:53 you saw it.
00:54 Do you think he's the next... Well, he already is the big thing, but can you really see him
00:58 going bigger and better?
00:59 Yeah, because he's a one-off. There's nobody else. There's nobody who looks like him or
01:03 is like him. He's an absolutely extraordinary actor.
01:06 And when it comes to you deciding what you do next, are you quite picky with the things
01:10 that you choose or do you get lots of scripts in front of you?
01:12 No, I'm a complete prostitute. I do everything that I'm offered because I'm so old and grateful
01:15 to be working. I'm working at the moment. I'm doing a Lena Dunham series, a series that
01:20 Mandy Zizist produced, and I'm doing a film with Russell Crowe in Budapest straight after
01:26 that, so I'm busy.
01:27 Is this what you wanted to do when you first started?
01:29 Yeah, you never want to be unemployed.
01:31 Yeah, yeah. And is it the stage or the film for you? What do you prefer?
01:34 No, films are better because you get paid properly. The theatre there's none.
