Alexei Navalny, a prominent Russian opposition leader and critic of Vladimir Putin, has died while incarcerated. Navalny, aged 47, was serving a 19-year sentence in a prison near the Arctic Circle under harsh conditions. Navalny had vanished in early December from another prison where he was serving a 30-year term for charges he claimed were politically motivated. His political activities included exposing corruption and election fraud, particularly targeting Putin's inner circle. In 2020, he was treated in Germany after a suspected FSB-induced poisoning with novichok.
