00:00 Very, very sad news. I was really shocked.
00:02 You know, I heard about it this afternoon,
00:04 and I couldn't believe it.
00:06 Steve and I were great friends, and he was a one-off,
00:09 and we just got on so well together.
00:12 In fact, every Sunday, you know, up until recently,
00:16 we used to meet up, and we used to talk complete rubbish together
00:20 and make one another laugh, and he made me very happy.
00:22 I used to love him on the radio.
00:24 I thought he was great, one of my favourite DJs of all time,
00:27 and he'll be sadly missed by all of us at Radio 2,
00:31 particularly myself, because as I said, we were...
00:34 You know, we just got on so well,
00:36 and I just can't believe I'm not going to see him anymore.
00:39 He was just fun. On the radio, he was brilliant.
00:42 He was what I call a real DJ.
00:45 I mean, his style was tremendous.
00:48 Rather like, you know, I mean, I always loved Kenny Everett,
00:51 and I put Steve in that bracket,
00:53 because he was a real proper DJ,
00:57 and his programmes were so sharp,
00:59 and not only, you know, he played music,
01:01 but he also did great interviews as well.
01:03 I quite often guest on his programme, and it was always fun.
01:06 And so he was... I think he was very special,
01:09 and he made me very happy when I used to listen to him on the radio.
