00:00 Terrifying. I've never been so aware of what I look like.
00:04 Because I have opposite body dysmorphia, I think I'm far more handsome than I see myself in the mirror.
00:10 And I'm like, "God damn." So yeah, it's annoying to see them render it so accurately.
00:15 Detective, I was wondering when you were going to show up.
00:19 Pardon me, excuse me. My name is Edward Carnby, private investigator.
00:26 I know they did, and they shouldn't. They should just use the template of Brad Pitt's face and then we're good to go.
00:33 But they had to get it right.
00:35 I'd just finished a movie which was based on a video game.
00:40 And I had this kind of newfound appreciation for video games, having not played a lot of them in my own life.
00:47 And just really kind of getting an insight into how big the gaming world is and the level of craftsmanship that goes into creating these games.
00:57 Wait, what?
00:59 So when the offer came through to be in Alone in the Dark, I said yes immediately.
01:03 Excuse me? Do you know where I can find Jeremy Hartwood?
01:08 What I'm most drawn to is the different characters.
01:11 Because they are all so, so different, so fully fleshed out. And I'm always just so fascinated about their dialogue.
01:18 What are you doing? I told you not to lose sight of the girl.
01:22 Don't you worry, Mags. I'll find that little rascal.
01:25 Who are you people?
01:27 You really do feel like when Emily meets a new character, the world is completely changed.
01:33 Ruth. Ruth Talon.
01:35 Nice to meet you.
01:40 I mean, he's kind of a gruff detective and he's like searching for something.
01:45 You know, he's hard-boiled but he's got some humor to him and stuff like that.
01:50 He's a bit of a trope or a type.
01:53 And I like that. And I like the world and how he's exploring this insanity amidst all this horror and stuff.
02:01 I like all those aspects.
02:03 Oh, she is just peachy, detective.
02:06 You want to be able to ride a balanced line of being able to play a character a certain way.
02:11 But also that it doesn't have too many specifics so that someone will distance themselves from that character.
02:17 You want them to be able to invest in this person.
02:20 Well, I guess it's also trying to make sure that there isn't one tone throughout.
02:25 Like, yeah, you know it's a horror, but then you don't want her to be one level throughout the whole game.
02:32 You know, like, yes, there is the kind of scary element, but then she still has to go on a journey and discover different things.
02:38 And there should still be room to breathe and have a funny moment or a sarcastic moment or a moment of discovery.
02:46 So it's just trying to really kind of keep all those other beats alive amongst the kind of darkness of it all, I guess, is how I felt anyway.
03:00 And she is kind of, you know, there's a lot of fear within her and a lot of speculation and curiosity and I guess dread, intrigue.
03:10 Like, there's a lot about her that is kind of on edge.
03:14 Detective, I really need you to get yourself together. I can't do this alone.
03:19 Yeah, I'll definitely play it. I'll probably play it as Emily.
03:24 The cinematics will probably be better, but it'll be those moments in the gameplay where, you know, you're running around trying to solve something.
03:30 And as I say, I'm pretty terrible at it. And then you just hear, "I can't do that. I can't do that. I can't do that."
03:35 Then I'll be very annoyed with my own voice.
03:38 I can't leave. I got a job to do. I can't leave. I got a job to do. I can't leave. I got a job to do.
03:47 It's really, really cool. I mean, like, never, ever would I think that I would have the opportunity to do something like this, you know.
03:53 It's so incredible to be able to kind of step out of what you usually do and explore something new and kind of challenge yourself in a new way.
04:04 So it's been amazing.
