The formation of a “Force of the Future”, specialising on non-traditional threats such as cyber attacks will be among the strategic considerations when deliberating on the Defence White Paper mid-term review, says Datuk Seri Dr Khaled Nordin.

The Defence Minister said this during his speech at the Defence White Paper Mid-term Review Launch on Tuesday (Feb 13) that the preparation and development of the force must be the major objective with the Defence White Paper as the foundation alongside policies and strategic plans that support it.

Khaled said Malaysia will also continue to position itself as a nation with soft defence power that is outstanding and effective.

06:17 a group of soldiers who are really great and skilled, and are capable of becoming hackers.
06:25 Outside we can see, that there are many communities of young people who are involved in extreme sports.
06:33 All of this is, ultimately, relevant for us to look into.
06:43 It means that, in the war, we will only look at the system, but from afar, we can shoot.
06:51 So, we have to study these things so that we are not left behind.
06:59 Because other countries, especially the ones closest to us, like Singapore, have made this as the fourth pillar in their military system.
07:10 They have their uniforms, their troops, and so on.
07:16 So, we can believe that other countries have also started, and we need to give consideration to see that we are also in our own country.
07:29 We are neighbors to many countries, and we have to see the drones that enter the country.
07:41 Sometimes we have to make sure how to jam them.
07:47 And especially now, we understand that the infiltrators use drones.
07:54 They want to know where we are, and where our members are.
08:02 So, they will know, and they will tell us, so they won't land in that area.
08:07 Because they call it a "taekwondo". They use drones.
08:12 That's why sometimes they can infiltrate.
08:15 Because they know where the military members are, so they will avoid going there.
08:21 They use drones.
08:22 So, how do we jam the drones so that we are more effective than them?
08:27 So, this is what we cannot ignore, and it happens in our waters.
08:34 So, we can't say that drones are from foreign countries.
08:39 But can you expect how soon this will happen?
08:44 I believe that today we are grateful, thank you.
08:47 First, the government understands the need.
08:50 Second, the people don't complain when the military has a lot of supporters.
08:54 I hope the people understand and support.
08:56 I'm telling the truth.
08:59 I hope so.
09:01 They always say that this is a time without war, because the operation is going on all the time.
09:07 Thank you.
