00:00 UMNO Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has questioned Bersatu's decision to stick
00:06 with party president Muhyiddin Yassin as its candidate for prime minister.
00:10 Puad said the decision proved the party was irresponsible because the former prime minister
00:16 had failed as the nation's leader during his time in office between March 2020 and
00:20 August 2021, citing governance violations, issues with the Janawi Bawa program, and his
00:26 son-in-law's continued disappearance abroad.
00:29 He added that Bersatu's decision proved that the party did not have anyone else was
00:33 capable.
00:35 On Thursday, Bersatu Secretary General Hamza Zainuddin said Muhyiddin is still qualified
00:40 as the party's candidate for prime minister.
00:43 He said the Pago MP hasn't committed any wrongdoings and his tenure was cut short only
00:47 because several Barisa National MPs decided to withdraw their support for him.
00:53 Muhyiddin took office on March 1, 2020, but was forced to resign on August 16, 2021, after
00:59 a revolt by UMNO MPs left him without a parliamentary majority.
01:03 His resignation came a few weeks after the end of an emergency that was declared in January
01:08 2021 and saw no parliament sitting taking place for seven months.
