00:00 A year after the earthquake, praying continues.
00:06 Sunday Mass is a busy event in the Turkish port city of Iskenderun.
00:11 This Orthodox Christian community has lost eight of its members in the earthquake, but
00:15 attracted many new ones, as displaced Christians from other cities have flocked to this church.
00:22 Many of them don't know each other, but they share the same fate, the same grief.
00:28 Just like their priest, Father Dimitri, who was himself displaced from Antakya, one of
00:33 the city's worst hit by the quakes.
00:36 We are not afraid for the future of the community, but the process is very painful.
00:41 We don't know when we will return to our city.
00:44 It's been a year already and we're still waiting without knowing anything.
00:47 How many years will this take?
00:49 Three years?
00:50 Five years?
00:51 Seven years?
00:52 Ten years?
00:53 We can't know.
00:54 Much of Antakya still lies in ruins.
00:57 It is hard to see a future here, so many people cling on to their memories.
01:02 One of them is Misa Uyar, whose organization Nehna has created an online map to which people
01:08 can upload photographs and stories of the Antakya they remember.
01:14 Even the buildings we used to use as a reference to move around the city were destroyed.
01:18 There's nothing left.
01:19 The city was almost flattened.
01:21 And it's not just the buildings that collapsed.
01:23 The people's memories also disappeared and we don't want them to go.
01:26 That's why we established this website.
01:27 To prevent these memories from disappearing, we hope it will make a small contribution.
01:34 But life must go on.
01:36 Dost Genç has rebuilt his bar Rosinanta exactly how it used to be.
01:41 He doesn't just serve cocktails, he says.
01:44 He serves a bit of hope.
01:48 As a result of this earthquake, of this destruction, people's memories of how the city was began
01:53 to disappear.
01:54 With Rosinanta, we're trying to refresh people's memories and give them hope.
01:58 And we see this has an impact on people.
02:00 We're trying to make this place one reason why people should be hopeful and stay in this
02:05 city.
02:06 The party begins.
02:11 There is a DJ and there's music.
02:14 Some seem to struggle at first.
02:15 But as the night moves on, so do the people of Antakya, not just preserving their memories,
02:22 Keep making New Hope.
