00:00 Hey family, Pastor Darius here. This is...
00:03 Man, I'm excited about this message you're about to hear.
00:05 The message is called "I'm Bigger Than That."
00:08 You know, there are a lot of times where we're waiting on obstacles to get smaller.
00:13 And God's like, "What I want to do is I want to make you bigger."
00:16 This message is going to show you how.
00:19 I want you to enjoy it and share it with somebody if it has value to you.
00:22 Take care.
00:24 Well, today family is the series finale of our first series of the year called "It's Up."
00:31 And I want to go to the book of Exodus chapter number 23.
00:34 We're going to begin reading at verse number 27.
00:38 And I'm excited to share and unload this word that's on my heart for us today.
00:44 Verse 27 says this.
00:47 God says, "I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter."
00:54 "I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run."
01:00 "I will send the Hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites out of your way."
01:08 "But I will not drive them out in a single year."
01:12 "Because the land would become too desolate for you and the wild animals too numerous for you."
01:19 "Little by little."
01:23 "I will drive them out before you until you have increased enough to possess the land."
01:31 As we welcome in our New Jersey family, clap your hands everybody all over the...
01:36 I want to talk from this subject in our time together.
01:42 We're playing no games on the series finale.
01:47 Here's the topic of today's teaching.
01:49 I'm bigger than that.
01:51 Clap your hands every location if you receive it.
01:54 I'm bigger than that.
01:57 Family, we have dubbed, designated, and declared 2024 to be the year of the upgrade.
02:06 This is the year where we are anticipating us experiencing what we call spiritual quantum leaps.
02:16 We believe that the Scriptures are clear in communicating that God is a God that orders our steps.
02:22 But I want to tell you he is also a God that arranges our leaps.
02:27 The Bible says he makes my feet like Heinz feet.
02:31 And deers don't just step, they leap.
02:35 And you cover more ground with leaping than you do with stepping.
02:40 I just want to tell anybody and everybody who will receive it by faith, every year can be your leap year.
02:48 Am I talking to anybody that's going to do some leaping this year?
02:52 I said, am I talking to anyone that's going to do some leaping this year?
02:58 Yeah, we say this with confidence because we have the conviction that everything that God does doesn't have to be done incrementally.
03:06 God can do and will do some things exponentially.
03:10 In other words, just because God is doing it big doesn't mean God has to do it slow.
03:17 He can do some things big and fast.
03:21 And this is the year where we are believing for big and fast.
03:27 I want someone who has faith for this to release this faith confession and say it's about to get better.
03:36 I want you to put a praise on that if you believe that it's about to get better.
03:44 That this is more than just religious rhetoric.
03:46 It is more than just a church colloquialism.
03:49 It is a faith confession rooted in biblical truth.
03:52 We are believing for the manifestation of words prophesied by a prophet named Amos in Amos chapter 9 verse 13 where Amos says this.
04:03 Yes, indeed. It won't be long now.
04:08 Things are going to happen so fast.
04:13 Your head will swim. One thing fast on the heels of the other.
04:20 You won't be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once and everywhere you look.
04:29 Blessings. Blessings like wine pouring off the mountains on the hills.
04:36 And I want to know is there anybody here that's believing this is my year for that?
04:42 I want to be so blessed that I'm dizzy that every time I turn around, he keeps on blessing me.
04:52 I believe I'm talking to some people who have that conviction.
04:55 Some people who will say I'm not unhappy with where I am, but I'm hungry for where I'm going.
05:01 Some of us are saying I'm not even clear on where I'm going.
05:06 But what I am clear on is I can't stay here. Mandy Hale puts it this way.
05:14 She says growth is painful. Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong.
05:24 And some of us are in a season where we're looking at misery, mediocrity, and mundaneness and saying one thing I do know is I don't belong here.
05:34 I don't belong broken. I don't belong broke. I don't belong unhappy.
05:40 I don't belong unfulfilled. I don't belong confused because my God says that I am the head, not the tail.
05:49 I'm above only not beneath. I am the lender and not the borrower.
05:54 I want somebody that's sick and tired of being sick and tired to say I don't belong here.
06:07 Now, this is you. There's something I need to share with you.
06:11 I was reading Exodus 23 and I saw this and I said, I got to share this with the family.
06:19 I just need to know, do I have your permission to share this?
06:25 Okay, I don't think every location responds. I said, do I have your permission to share this?
06:32 Okay. Okay. Do you want me to share this with you? Do you want me to share this with you now?
06:43 Do you want me to share this with you right now? Okay, here it is.
06:47 Since you asked, here it is. I saw this in Exodus 23, something I affectionately entitled,
06:52 the law of spiritual acceleration. Here it is. How fast you go is determined by how much you grow.
07:02 Yeah, I got that response at the other service too. In other words, our size determines our speed.
07:10 If we get bigger, we go faster.
07:13 See, I know this is counterintuitive because naturally or physically, the bigger I get,
07:18 the slower I may get. But spiritually, the bigger I get, the faster I get.
07:25 Darius, where'd you get this? I got it from Exodus 23.
07:28 See, this story allows us to eavesdrop on a conversation that God is having with people
07:34 who are experiencing an upgrade. Somebody say, that's me.
07:38 That's me. Yeah, they are being upgraded because they are making an Exodus out of Egypt.
07:44 I'm gonna see, I'm gonna see who can catch this. The word Exodus means exit.
07:49 So, an exit can be an upgrade. Y'all missed it.
07:56 I said the word Exodus means exit. So, an exit can be an upgrade.
08:03 Watch this, because whenever God orchestrates an exit, it's actually an invitation to something better
08:10 than that you exited from. Y'all missed it. In other words, God said,
08:15 if I'm calling you out, I never call you out just to call you out.
08:20 I call you out because I'm getting ready to take you in. And you may not see it yet,
08:25 but you better come out. And it may not make sense to you,
08:28 but you better come out because when God brings you out of Egypt,
08:33 he's getting ready to take you into Canaan.
08:42 This book details how God orchestrates an exit for Israel out of their Egypt
08:48 and how he can orchestrate an exit for us out of our Egypt.
08:52 And somebody's watching right now at any location on the in the overflow change global.
08:57 They say, "P.D., what are you talking about? I've never been to Egypt."
09:02 Well, for them, it was Egypt literally. For us, it is Egypt metaphorically.
09:08 Pastor, what can Egypt represent? It can represent, watch this,
09:13 I hope y'all ready for this. It can represent a place, a person,
09:18 or a predicament that's either holding you back or holding you up.
09:25 Let me say that one more time. Egypt can represent a place, a person,
09:33 or a predicament that is holding you up or holding you back.
09:39 But I believe I'm talking to some people who will say the way my life is set up
09:45 and the season of life that I'm in, I refuse to be anywhere
09:51 or to be with anybody that is either holding me back or holding me up.
09:58 Did you hear what I just said? Yeah. If you are dealing with agitation because of my,
10:05 watch this, I don't know if y'all ready. If you are dealing with agitation because of my elevation,
10:10 that's an indication it needs to be some separation.
10:20 Why do I have to stay low for us to stay close?
10:25 Why do I have to stay dysfunctional for us to stay close?
10:29 Why do I have to stay unhappy for us to stay close?
10:33 Why do I have to like Egypt because you like it? It doesn't mean I don't like you.
10:39 It just means I don't like Egypt. I'm not mad at you for staying there
10:43 and don't get mad at me for leaving. I'm on my way out.
10:51 Somebody praise God like you're getting ready to step out.
11:07 So in this conversation in Exodus, God's telling them,
11:12 okay, I'm getting ready to take you out, but I'm also getting,
11:15 I'm getting ready to take you out and I'm getting ready to take you in.
11:17 But notice what he says to them. This is very interesting.
11:20 I want to summarize what he says to them in Exodus 23.
11:25 He says now listen, I'm going to bring you out.
11:30 But your size determines your speed.
11:37 Did you hear what I said? How long it takes is not just based on how big I am.
11:45 Did you hear what I just said? God is saying to them how long it takes me to get you to your promised land,
11:53 your promised life in this season. How long it takes is not just dependent on how big God is.
12:01 It's dependent on how big you are.
12:03 Darius, where did you see it? I see it in the text.
12:07 Give me verse 30 on the screens media because they don't believe me.
12:14 Little by little, I will drive them out. Now watch this.
12:18 Somebody's probably thinking, wait a minute. That doesn't sound like a quantum leap.
12:23 That doesn't sound exponential. That sounds incremental.
12:29 Little by little, I will drive them out, but I can't stop reading.
12:37 I don't have time to bother this. Yes, I do. Here it is.
12:40 He says I'm going to drive them out before you.
12:45 Please hear me. He said before you. Before has two connotations.
12:52 It means I'm going to drive them out before you get there or I'm going to drive them out before you.
13:01 He prepares a table. Before me in the presence of my enemies.
13:10 God says there are some things I'm going to do behind the scenes,
13:14 but then there are other things I'm going to do for you right in front of your face.
13:19 I'm gonna let you watch me make a way. I'm gonna let you watch me open the door.
13:25 I'm gonna let you watch me split the red seat.
13:30 Watch yourself. He said I'm gonna drive him out before you.
13:43 Little by little. Watch this though. I want you to see the reasoning.
13:47 I want you to see the rationale. I want you to see the part they play.
13:50 Watch verse 30. It says I'm gonna drive them out before you until you.
14:00 Until you have increased enough.
14:08 Whenever you get big enough.
14:13 Whenever you get to the right size, then you can seize it.
14:18 He says but you asking me to bring you into something.
14:22 You don't have the size for. Good God Almighty.
14:28 And I know we live in a season where everybody's saying my bank account needs to get bigger
14:33 and my brand needs to get bigger and my following needs to get bigger
14:38 and my influence needs to get bigger and God's like with what I'm getting ready to take you into.
14:43 You need to get bigger. And if you get bigger the bank account will get bigger.
14:49 If you get bigger the brand will get bigger. If you get bigger than the influence will get bigger.
14:56 He says he says I got to I got to make sure you've increased enough
15:04 because the promised land is an opportunity, but there are ops inside the opportunity.
15:16 Did you hear what I just said? And there are many people who want the opportunity
15:21 but can't handle the ops and you're like God,
15:26 why are you holding up the opportunity and God's like I'm not holding up the opportunity
15:31 because you can't handle the opportunity. I'm holding up the opportunity
15:35 because you can't handle the ops. You can't handle the rumors.
15:39 You can't handle the criticism. You can't handle the jealousy.
15:43 You can't handle the insecurity. You can't handle how your intimidation
15:48 causes somebody else to deal with some agitation
15:51 because they're dissatisfied by their own transformation.
15:55 You want the opportunity, but you've got to be big enough to handle the ops.
16:02 And God says I want to upgrade you because the size that you need to be is tied to what I've called you to seize.
16:25 So don't be agitated by how big God's requiring you to become.
16:32 Be appreciative of how big God's requiring you to become
16:39 because how big he's requiring you to become is an indication of the size of what you getting ready to seize.
16:49 And I believe we're in a season where God is shifting
16:54 and he's saying I'm no longer giving big opportunities to people who have a little size.
17:03 Did you hear what I just said? Now watch this.
17:07 So this means guys this means something that there are enemies or obstacles
17:13 that we must be willing to address and overthrow if we're going to experience upgrades
17:19 and many people's problem is this they're waiting on the obstacles to get smaller.
17:27 What if I told you that maybe we should shift our prayers and stop praying for it to get smaller
17:43 and start praying for me to get bigger.
17:49 Did you hear what I just said? Is there anybody who's willing to say Lord just make me bigger?
17:55 Yeah, if you refuse to make it smaller make me bigger.
18:01 Wow because the promised land that God was bringing them into is a metaphor for the promised life.
18:08 He wants to bring us into the enemies that they had to overthrow in the Old Testament
18:12 or enemies or metaphors for enemies we need to overthrow in the New Testament.
18:17 So each group of enemies that's listed in the text can symbolize enemies
18:22 that we need to address and overthrow to experience an upgrade
18:26 and there are three people groups specifically mentioned in the text that I read.
18:31 The Hivites, the Canaanites and the Hittites.
18:37 Hivites, interesting enemy.
18:42 See when Israel crossed the Jordan River and began their conquest of Canaan
18:45 the nearby inhabitants including the Hivites were alarmed
18:49 and realized that Israel posed a threat to them.
18:51 So these people, people of Gideon, which was a Hivite city devised a plan to deceive the Israelites.
18:58 They disguised themselves as travelers from a foreign land.
19:01 So they wore old clothing.
19:03 They carried worn out provisions like molded bread and cracked wineskins
19:08 and they presented themselves to Joshua
19:11 and the leaders of Israel as emissaries seeking a peace treaty.
19:17 So instead of Joshua doing investigation,
19:20 he made an oath with people he thought he knew that he didn't.
19:27 Because they were presenting themselves one way.
19:33 Did you hear what I just said?
19:35 They were presenting themselves one way.
19:37 I don't have time to bother this.
19:39 Yes, I do. They were presenting themselves one way,
19:44 but they were another. But watch this.
19:46 They don't meet people like this when they were in Egypt.
19:56 They have these kind of problems in Egypt.
20:00 In Egypt, they knew who the Egyptians were.
20:07 They knew the Hebrew people and they knew the Egyptian people.
20:10 It was very clear. They didn't have to worry about people trying to exploit them in Egypt
20:16 because they had nothing to exploit.
20:22 Did you hear what I just said? The ops look like ops in Egypt.
20:27 Y'all not talking to me today.
20:29 Jesus said that you got to beware
20:33 because there are some people who come dressed in sheep's clothing,
20:38 but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
20:46 Are they attaching to me just to attach to me?
20:54 They didn't have these problems in Egypt.
20:58 And so every time you deal with a hard season,
21:04 I want you to remember you pray for this.
21:10 Good God Almighty, because there is no such thing as a problem-free life.
21:15 The only thing you do from one level to it to the next is exchange problems.
21:24 So here it is. Israel formed an oath impulsively.
21:32 So the, are y'all ready for this?
21:34 So the Havites family represent an enemy we must get bigger than.
21:40 That's the enemy of impulsiveness.
21:46 Proverbs 14 29 says, "He who is slow to wrath has great understanding,
21:51 but he who is impulsive exalts folly." Foolishness.
21:58 Impulsiveness makes a wise person do unwise things.
22:03 Let me see. Yeah, impulsiveness, come on, will cause, watch this,
22:11 a smart person to do silly things.
22:19 Impulsiveness, watch this, is the tendency to act quickly without sufficient thought
22:27 or consideration of the consequences. Am I making sense here? Impulsiveness.
22:35 Now I want you to catch this now. Are y'all ready for this?
22:38 I said are y'all ready? Can I teach the Bible?
22:42 All right, here it is. I don't know if y'all, here it is.
22:45 Impulsiveness has a parent. And the parent of impulsiveness is impatience.
22:56 Impatience is the womb that gives birth to the baby of impulsiveness.
23:02 I don't act impulsively unless I'm dealing with impatience.
23:11 And impatience, come on here, impatience is a disregard for the law of sowing and reaping.
23:19 Here's what the Bible says about that law.
23:21 As long as the earth remains, there is seed, there is time, and then there's harvest.
23:30 Impatience wants to go from seed to harvest.
23:36 Did you hear what I just said? Not realizing that there is seed, there is time, and there is harvest.
23:44 And when you try to skip steps, impatience and impulsiveness give birth to something else called Ishmael.
23:57 And Ishmael is the blessing you made and not the blessing God made for you.
24:04 Y'all missing it. There are two characters in the Old Testament named Abraham and Sarah.
24:10 They were old age and they were unable to conceive children.
24:14 So Sarah tells Abraham, we've got a maidservant named Hagar.
24:18 Why don't we use her as a surrogate? And Abraham said, if you insist.
24:24 And so here it is, they give birth to Ishmael. But they do it after they got a word.
24:35 Y'all missed it. So here they are.
24:38 They are trying to use human effort to bring a prophetic promise to pass.
24:47 And so Ishmael, Ishmael represents the fruit of their impatience.
24:58 It's the one they made instead of waiting on the one God made for them.
25:03 And I want to know, am I talking to anybody that will say, I want Isaac.
25:11 Ishmael is the blessing I try to make. Isaac is the blessing he's made for me.
25:18 And if you wait on Isaac, I want to tell you, Isaac will be worth the wait.
25:24 They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
25:28 They'll mount upon wings as eagles. They'll run and get not get weary.
25:33 They'll walk and not faint. Impulsiveness. You're too smart for that.
25:45 And you've come this far with that. But in this season, you got to get bigger than that.
25:53 Did you hear what I just said? I wonder, I always wonder,
25:57 why did what are some of the reasons like it took David so long between the time he was anointed
26:03 and the time he actually occupied the throne?
26:08 I'm like, man, it took a while. And then I realized David was a bit temperamental.
26:17 A man after God's own heart, but it did not eradicate the impulsiveness.
26:24 So God said, I got to give you a little time because you go into the palace.
26:28 But watch this. A person you looked up to is going to turn into an op.
26:33 Because ops don't always start off being ops. The same man that promoted you, Saul,
26:45 is going to become the same man that throws spears at you.
26:49 And David, the way you set up right now, you love me, but you will throw it back.
26:54 So I got to give you a little more time for me to work that out of you.
26:59 Because throwing spears back when you're not the king has one set of implications.
27:04 But throwing spears back when you are the king has another set of implications.
27:09 So I need to make sure I work this out of you before you get to a season
27:14 where this damages you in a way it hadn't damaged you.
27:19 I feel this prophetic unction and warning. You can't keep doing that.
27:25 Whatever that that is, you can't keep doing that in this season.
27:35 Impulsiveness. It'll make us say something in a second that'll follow us for a season.
27:44 Every decision is pregnant with the potential to produce a season.
27:48 I can do it in a second. I got to deal with it for a season.
27:55 Impulsiveness is sowing seed for a harvest I don't want in the future.
28:06 Am I making sense?
28:10 There are some people that are upset with reputations that they sowed seed for.
28:21 Did you hear what I just said?
28:25 So in this season, I got to arrest them.
28:28 See, you can't keep revisiting what you can't revise.
28:33 So you can't at this point, you can't control if it could be said of you.
28:39 You can control if it can be said of you now.
28:46 Impulsiveness. You got to be bigger than that.
28:50 In this season, one wrong move, one wrong tweet.
28:55 Y'all not talking to me.
29:00 I got to be bigger than the high tides.
29:02 Number two, I got to be bigger. Y'all ready for this?
29:04 Than the Canaanites. The Canaanites represent the enemy of improper priorities.
29:12 There were certain sects of the Canaanites that will literally take their babies
29:17 and they will sacrifice their babies on a hot burning altar to a God called Melek.
29:24 It's like you putting the wrong thing on the altar.
29:29 And you can't experience an upgrade.
29:31 We can't go from Egypt to Canaan if you keep sacrificing the wrong thing.
29:39 Now can pastor ask you something? Come on.
29:41 Do you give me permission to ask you something?
29:45 When are you going to get around to you?
29:51 You keep getting around to everybody else.
29:58 And some of that's going to require some religious undoing
30:01 because some of us incorrectly assume that getting around to me is selfishness
30:06 when it's actually good stewardship.
30:10 Here's what the Bible says, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
30:13 And when the word it uses for love, there's talking about agape
30:16 because it's saying you can't show agape to someone else if you don't.
30:21 Now, you can have Eros for somebody else and not love yourself.
30:30 Right? That's how people can stay in relationships where they aren't loved back well
30:37 because they don't love themselves right.
30:41 But they are in love with what's killing them softly.
30:49 Because I can Eros without loving myself.
30:53 I can phileo, brotherly love without love, but I can't show agape
30:57 which is an unconquerable benevolence.
30:58 It is my willingness to seek the highest good for you no matter what you do to me.
31:05 It means I love you more than the relationship.
31:10 So it means that I won't let you, I won't sit silently while you sabotage you just to keep you.
31:19 It means I love you enough that I hurt your feelings to spare your future.
31:25 Speak the truth in agape.
31:30 And sometimes people say, you know, well, I didn't say that because I'm trying to spare them.
31:34 Really? Or were you really trying to spare yourself from discomfort?
31:42 But it's easier to say, I'm trying to spare them.
31:47 Are you trying to spare their feelings? Are you trying to spare the way you feel when they don't have good feelings?
31:56 It's improper priorities. We put in the wrong thing on the altar.
32:01 Some of you put we put in our health on the altar.
32:04 Improper priorities, our physical health on the altar, our mental health on the altar.
32:11 What does it profit a man or woman to gain the whole world?
32:22 But lose your soul. How much is peace worth for you?
32:30 Darius, how much are you going to do? As much as I can do without putting the wrong thing on the altar.
32:36 When I have to put the wrong thing on the altar, that's as much as I'm doing.
32:41 Because if you don't have a standard, you're for sale.
32:52 Being for sale, living just about money could be about opportunity.
32:55 It can be about access. It could be about relationship.
32:58 We have to have standards. We say I don't put this on the altar.
33:04 I'm not going to sacrifice my relationship with God.
33:10 In the book of Malachi chapter number one, the Bible addresses this.
33:13 Malachi says a son honors a father, a slave his master.
33:17 If I'm a father, where's the honor due to me? If I'm a master, where's the respect due to me?
33:21 Says the Lord Almighty. It's you priests who show contempt for my name,
33:24 but you ask how have we shown contempt for your name?
33:26 He says by offering defiled food on my altar.
33:29 But you ask how have we defiled you? By saying that the Lord's table is contemptible.
33:33 When you offer blind animals as a sacrifice, is that not wrong?
33:38 When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong?
33:41 If you really believe that's okay, try offering that to your governor.
33:44 Would he be pleased with you? God is using Malachi to speak to priests
33:50 and to people and to say to them, we don't feel the same way about our relationship.
33:56 Our relationship's uncensored this past weekend. In Jersey, we come into you Friday night.
34:03 I told a story about when my pastor first met my wife and I
34:07 and he asked us to rank our marriage one to ten. Ten being great, one being struggling.
34:11 I gave an eight. Pastor Mika gave a three.
34:15 So we're in the same relationship, but we don't feel the same way.
34:19 And God uses Malachi to say, hey, y'all think we had an eight.
34:23 I'm at a three. Because you got me in your life, but I'm not first.
34:36 And because I'm not desperate, I don't share.
34:42 Your heart is a throne, not a couch.
34:47 And if you got somebody else sitting there, I won't.
34:56 So my question is not, is just God in my life, but is he first?
35:00 And he's trying to help these people see that their actions are showing them who's first.
35:07 See, this is what they were doing. When it came time for giving,
35:10 they would go out in the backyard and they would get the sheep that was limping
35:14 and had three legs. They get the sheep that was blind running in the other sheep
35:21 and they would bring that and sacrifice that and then they take the best sheep to the market
35:25 so they could get the most money for it. And so and they okay with it.
35:31 They come in the church each week, shout. And God's like, really?
35:39 He says, if you really believe that's okay, do it to the government.
35:45 He said, well, help me preach then. I'm done.
35:59 And here it is, Matthew 6, 33, seek the kingdom first and all these things will be added.
36:04 God's like, when I'm not first, what you're living in is mercy and grace
36:09 and you're calling it blessing. And if mercy and grace is this good,
36:18 can you imagine what blessing is like? The final enemy is the Canaanites,
36:24 which represent, I mean, the Hittites, which represent the enemy of infections.
36:30 These were very jaded people. They were hurt. They were hostile.
36:37 They were under frequent attack. And so they projected that suspicion on Israel.
36:43 So they were hurting. Am I making sense? Because they were hurt people.
36:47 They were people that hurt others. This is the equivalent of being bit by a snake.
36:54 That's the injury. But you don't die from snake bite. You die from poison.
37:02 And all of us have dealt with some injuries in the past. The question is,
37:09 even though I couldn't prevent the injury, am I willing to handle my infection?
37:16 To say I can't keep letting what got in me in that season follow me in every season.
37:24 I gotta be bigger than that. And this is a season where God's saying,
37:31 I need you to get bigger. Lord, make me bigger.
37:41 So that it can be said of me as it was said of the early church,
37:43 these are they that have turned the world upside down.
37:48 Clap your hands if you received this word.
