Chanel West Coast caught up with Billboard's Rania Aniftos at Billboard’s No. 1 GRAMMYs Party 2024.

00:02 I gotta say, I was just on TikTok and I saw your cover of Teddy Swim's "Lose Control."

00:07 Wow, you killed it.

00:09 Thank you. I really appreciate that.

00:11 I'm like, I'm very happy you saw it.

00:14 I was like, I didn't know it was gonna go viral,

00:15 but I guess Grammy weekend was the right weekend to drop a cover song.

00:18 100%. 100%.

00:19 How do you like go about picking a song that you feel like fits your voice?

00:23 Man, that's hard, you know.

00:25 So it's funny because I've been a rapper for a long time

00:27 and I've been experimenting with music and trying to dive into other genres a little bit.

00:32 And, you know, I'm really learning how to write those type of songs now.

00:35 So that's what's interesting is trying to find like what type of song really shows off my voice, you know.

00:40 I've always been a singer, but I never really knew how to write those songs.

00:43 So that's why I wanted to just start covering songs like that

00:46 so people could see like what I'm capable of, you know.

00:48 100%. And is there other artists that you kind of look to for inspiration

00:52 that maybe have made that transition from rap to more singer-songwriter vibes?

00:56 So somebody who I've looked up to my whole life is Gwen Stefani.

00:59 And that's because, I mean, she was in a rock band, went to doing like hip-hop, pop music,

01:04 and then she came out with country songs.

01:06 She's literally done it all.

01:08 Yes, so she's like my biggest influence.

01:10 And she's a California girl, you know what I'm saying?

01:12 So Gwen Stefani's definitely somebody I really look up to.

01:14 I love that, and speaking along the same vein, clearly you're in the works.

01:18 You've got projects going on.

01:19 What can you tease for us?

01:21 So I have a new TV show coming out on MTV.

01:24 It's My Crazy Life.

01:26 I keep joking. I'm like, "Oh, I get why the Kardashians get paid the big bucks,"

01:29 because it's very invasive.

01:31 But you're going to get to see everything I'm working on.

01:33 My new album, my swimwear line.

01:35 I'm a mom now, so you get to see me with my little crazy baby.

01:38 And yeah.

01:39 Intimate side of you.

01:40 Yes. You know, people know my laugh.

01:42 They know, you know, the comedic side, but they don't know a deeper side to me, you know?

01:46 And you're going to get to really know me on a whole new level.
