Jim Shannon of the DUP seeks assurance that 'Ulster remains British'
Transcript
00:00 the Northern Ireland Assembly can debate and make provision for it.
00:03 >> Jim Shannon (Stoke-on-Trent North) (Lab) I thank the Secretary of State very much for
00:10 his statement and the hard work that he has done. I say this quite sincerely. Government actions up
00:16 until now have, I believe, undermined some of the trust of Unionist people. I believe there is a
00:21 clear need for messaging from Government that the concerns that Unionists have been expressing for
00:26 the last two years are being dealt with through secure legislative processes here and, unilaterally,
00:32 with the EU. My constituents in Strangfordshire, who are in the gallery today, are proud of their
00:40 Britishness. I am sure the Secretary of State will be able to confirm—I hope he can—that we
00:45 in Northern Ireland are as British as London, as Cardiff, as Manchester, as Newcastle and, indeed,
00:54 as Edinburgh and Scotland. >> Mr Speaker
00:59 I thank the hon. Gentleman for his question. I am very proud that he is as proud a Brit as I am.
01:13 Thank you.
