#KwentongPTV | Former Program Host of PTV Pinky Aseron at Current Voice Over Talent of PTV Braggy Braganza
Transcript
00:00 And because the 50th anniversary of People's Television Network is starting,
00:04 we invited people who have been part of the growth and success of PTV.
00:10 They are the voices behind the promotional videos and other VTRs here in People's Television Network.
00:18 This morning, they will be sharing their #KwentongPTV.
00:23 Let's not delay it any longer.
00:25 Live here in the studio is the former voice-over talent and program host of PTV,
00:30 Ma'am Pinky Aceron, and also the current voice-over talent of PTV,
00:34 Sir Braggie Braganza.
00:36 Good morning and it's an honor for me to have you here today.
00:40 Good morning, Ma'am.
00:41 Good morning, Braggie.
00:42 Even your "bake" is beautiful.
00:45 Thank you.
00:46 Thank you so much.
00:47 Yes, good morning.
00:48 Happy 50th anniversary.
00:49 To us, to PTV.
00:52 Even if we look back, tell us about your journey here at PTV.
00:57 Ma'am Pinky.
00:58 Okay, actually, it goes as far back as when I just graduated from college.
01:05 No, actually, no. I'm still in college.
01:07 Oh, okay.
01:08 I did my practicum here under the administration,
01:12 when the station was still under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.
01:18 Okay.
01:19 So I was an intern, and then after graduation,
01:23 I was invited by Boss Bong Serra of the sports division to work as a PA.
01:31 Okay.
01:32 We were doing the rounds of the national sports,
01:37 and the one with Michael Keon,
01:42 we would cover the sports activities sponsored by Mr. Keon.
01:50 And I did that for a while, I was a PA,
01:54 until I got a job as a newscaster and news writer for a pop station, 99.5 RT.
02:02 So I was kind of lost.
02:03 Yes.
02:04 Then I came back during the FVR, Fidel V. Ramos.
02:11 I was invited by, well, actually, I was invited by Ms. Chit Gatan
02:16 to audition for the role of continuity announcer.
02:20 Okay.
02:21 Then, I was chosen, I was doing voiceovers,
02:26 I was voicing the merchandise plugs of the station.
02:31 But my biggest break came when I was,
02:36 when the late Press Secretary Serge Raimonde got me to co-anchor
02:42 a news and public affairs talk show with veteran broadcast journalist Mario Garcia.
02:48 And that was Tinig ng Bayan.
02:51 And that went on for about three years.
02:54 Tapos, huminto, and then nung nagkaroon ng pagkahanda para sa Hatol ng Bayan
03:01 under the administration naman of President Noy-Noy,
03:05 Aquino.
03:07 I was also invited to, I was invited once again to co-anchor the talk show,
03:13 the interview talk show.
03:14 Katulad ng ginagawa mo.
03:16 Oo, oo.
03:16 So, sa madaling sabi, I served PTV in different capacities under four different administrations.
03:26 Wow.
03:26 Okay.
03:42 Sa telepono yung pang the number you have dialed.
03:46 Ano?
03:47 Is kung globe ang telepono ninyo, ako yung naririnig nyo.
03:51 Pasample nga po.
03:53 This subscriber cannot be reached.
03:55 Please try again later.
03:56 Ah, yun.
03:56 Yan, oo.
04:11 Arriving at North Avenue Station.
04:24 Okay, so sa PTV, nung nag-start naman ako, I was with another network.
04:29 And then I said, "I wanted to do other things."
04:31 So, nag-apply ako sa Sports Radio.
04:34 And then, ang daming applicants.
04:35 And then, I think they got me already that time.
04:38 And I said, "Someday, I'm going to work in that building."
04:41 Tito sa PTV.
04:43 Tinutulong ako from the other side.
04:44 Dahil sa PBS, kabila lang naman.
04:46 And then, I met si Ed Finland.
04:49 He called si Miss Nitz, who is the head of merchandising that time.
04:53 And he said, "Nitz, you come over to my office."
04:56 "Bakit?"
04:57 "God just answered your prayers."
04:59 Biglang gumano.
05:00 Sabi ko, "What does that mean?"
05:02 So, I think they were looking for a voice-over announcer that time for the network.
05:07 And then, they were looking at me.
05:09 So, yung application ko, napasa yata sa kanila.
05:12 And sabi ni Miss Nitz, "Can you do Tagalog?"
05:15 Sabi ko, "Yeah, sure."
05:16 So, they gave me a bunch of scripts, ng mga existing merchandising plugs, ng mga line-up ng scripts.
05:21 They asked me to record it.
05:23 And then, sinabi nila, "You come back tomorrow, and then we'll try to listen to your voice."
05:27 And voice-over for the existing mga plugs na.
05:29 And then, yeah, they got me already.
05:31 So, I was doing both sports radio sa PBS and dito sa PTV.
05:36 So, that's how I got in.
05:37 And the rest was history.
05:51 Nako, napakalaki.
05:53 Kasi, back then kasi, wala pang ibang platforms or venues for our voices to be used.
06:04 It was basically for broadcast and advertising.
06:08 So, we were basically doing voice-overs for commercials for radio and television.
06:14 And, continuity announcing.
06:17 Doing voice-overs for merchandise plugs for TV networks.
06:20 And then, technology happened.
06:23 So, nagkaroon ng iba't-ibang platforms.
06:27 And of course, nagkaroon ng technology to make all of that possible.
06:34 Actually, I would have to say that the pandemic sort of did that.
06:40 So, it's something that, it's one good thing that the pandemic brought about.
06:44 We learned to adapt to the situation.
06:48 So, and of course, since meron ng technology to our disposal,
06:57 we can do just about anything, everywhere, anywhere we are.
07:02 Kasi, before the pandemic, we were so used to going to the studios to record.
07:08 And we had technicians to record our voices and edit the voice files.
07:15 Nung nangyari yung pandemia, sa bahay pwede na, napilitan kami mag-work from home.
07:21 Kasi kung hindi, wala. Gutong mang aabutin mo.
07:25 And of course, at that point, there was so much competition already.
07:33 The voice-over industry was already thriving.
07:36 And there have become more venues for voice talents to practice their craft.
07:45 It's not just for commercials. It's not just for AVPs, for documentaries.
07:51 Now, you have gaming. Oo, no? Voice-overs for games.
07:55 And then, oo. And of course, yung mga dubbers, the usual.
07:59 Yung mga for teleseries. And you also have, well, nandyan pa rin yung mga voice actors, of course.
08:07 For the dramas and the teleseries.
08:10 Marami ako mga former students sa UP na nag-voice-overs.
08:15 Or they act as dubbers now for movies that are featured on Netflix.
08:23 Na may Filipino dubbing, Filipino subtitles. Ganon.
08:29 So, in other words, a lot has happened since nung panahon namin.
08:37 Old school. I just aged myself.
08:40 A lot has happened since then because of technology.
08:43 There have become more platforms.
08:47 And of course, because of the pandemic, we've had to learn to adapt to the situation.
08:53 In a way, it's a good thing.
08:56 Yan ang sabi niyo nga isang magandang naidulot nitong pandemya nito.
09:00 Pero I wanna know, ano po yung hindi ninyo malilimutan na karanasan dito sa PTV?
09:04 Let's start with you, Sir Bradley.
09:05 Naku, karanasan. Alright.
09:07 So, yung mga hindi ko malilimutan, I guess siguro, flashback muna to way back.
09:18 They really want me to be here on time.
09:20 So may mga time na wala akong car noon, walang grab, walang taxi, walang jeep available.
09:24 It's so traffic, ang hirap sumakay. Bagyo, nagbabaha sa Kamias.
09:28 Going here, Kalayaan to PTV, Mindanao.
So datating pa rin ako.
09:51 And then we would still do the voiceover, sunod-sunod na yung mga script.
09:54 And then fast forward, like sinabi ni Ms. Miki, during the pandemic,
09:57 nag-iba yung trend na we used to come here and then that time,
10:05 So anytime they would deliver the script, begay nila ng gabi, ng noon time, or what,
10:09 pwede nang ma-voiceover.
10:11 And it was very quick because of the technology nga naman.
10:13 Send mo na sa email and then check nila if you missed some words,
10:16 if you pronounced it right or wrong,
10:18 and then pwede mo na i-revise, may revision, and then you can send it right away.
10:22 So very tight din ang mga, ang daming scripts.
10:25 Pumasok yung mga about the pandemic, mga pastat sama-sama, kaya natin 'to, yung mga plugs.
10:32 And it aired all over the TV stations in Metro Manila that was produced by PTV and Malacanang combined.
10:38 So very massive din yung paggawa namin ng mga scripts.
10:43 Even though walang pasok and nagkaroon ng lockdown,
10:48 but yung pag-produce natin ng scripts for PTV and the government, tuloy-tuloy ang paggawa.
10:53 And masipag yung mga tao nakasama natin sa merchandising.
10:56 We made it all happen.
11:23 That shouldn't be the primary driving force in your decision to get into it.
11:30 Kasi it'll come eventually, but you have to start somewhere.
11:34 You have to start from scratch, you have to start from square one.
11:38 Kami ni Braggie, we've been through a lot.
11:42 And of course, our work may look glamorous, but it's a lot of hard work.
11:50 Tsaka kailangan talaga matsyaga ka.
11:54 And you have to learn to do other things other than voicing a script.
12:00 Right now, you have to also learn how to edit your own voice file.
12:12 So kailangan, marunong kang gumawa.
12:14 All around ka na, ano?
12:16 Napilitan ako talagang pag-aralan yan.
12:19 Kasi marami ding competition na mas bata.
12:25 So you just have to learn the ropes and be as competitive as you possibly can.
12:35 And of course, learn to take rejection graciously.
12:45 You will get rejected at some point.
12:47 And when that happens, don't feel bad.
12:49 Because it's not about you.
12:59 But eventually, there will be a project that is definitely meant for you.
13:05 So basta, just persevere.
13:10 And of course, learn to take rejection graciously.
13:14 And don't let that discourage you.
13:16 Because there will always be, it's a long journey.
13:19 And it's a continuous learning process.
13:21 And there will always be opportunities for you to shine.
13:30 Thank you very much.
13:31 Which gives me an insight on how to give my example.
13:34 Okay, so mga voiceover.
13:38 And then I said, "I'm gonna get this. Bagay ito sa voice ko."
13:41 And then sabi niya, "Sir, dalawa po yung pinagpipilian."
13:44 Kayo tsaka isang itong tao na 'to.
13:49 "He sounds so old."
13:51 But he also matches the script.
13:52 Nakakaroon ng image ng identity and all that, yung brand.
13:57 E sabi nila, "Wala silang budget."
13:58 E mas mura ako, dun mas bata ako.
14:00 Mas may edad siya, mas matanda yung voice.
14:02 And I assumed that his TF is higher.
14:04 So I said, "Okay, baka nagmatch lang talaga it's not my voice, it's his."
14:08 And then whatever the TF is, let's just accept kung mababa or mataas.
14:12 You can work on the budget anyhow.
14:14 So anyway, bottom line dito,
14:16 dun sa mga gusto pumasok dito sa career, it's not an easy craft.
14:20 They think that hosting, voiceover, and all this and that is an easy thing.
14:24 Boses lang daw.
14:25 But you have to learn new things.
14:26 Iba-iba yung mga delivery, iba-iba yung modulation, iba-iba yung style.
14:31 So I think what I can say is that it's a never-ending learning process.
14:36 So you need to adapt to different kinds of scripts,
14:39 different kind of approach and style.
14:49 and other things that they need to do in terms of having us as voiceover.
14:54 So relax lang tayo and we should learn some more and adapt to new things.
15:04 meron mga hosting, and all this and that.
15:06 So ang dami-dami!
15:07 So we can learn all of these things one by one
15:10 and you can find yourself siguro being able to see yourself doing that particular thing.
15:17 Kunyari, journalism ka. You can be good at journalism.
15:20 You can do a voiceover and/or hosting and newscasting.
15:24 Ang dami pwede gawin but you can always find the perfect one for you.
15:28 Minsan hindi mo pwede gawin lahat.
15:30 If I may just add something to what Braggie said.
15:33 Ang mga kliyente kasi, they choose to work with people who don't give them a hard time.
15:52 you will be first on their minds.
15:55 Top of mind ka sa mga kliyente.
15:57 Kasi I remember a client telling me that she loves working with me
16:01 because I make her job easier.
16:04 And that's music to your ears, 'di ba?
16:07 Parang nakakatabana puso.
16:16 Kasi 'yon nga, you're very professional and at the same time, madali kang katrabaho.
16:21 Before we let you go, of course, gusto namin ng sample sa mga voiceover niya dito sa PTV.
16:28 Alright, Sir Braggie?
16:30 Sample? Okay, so for Rise and Shine Pilipinas.
16:33 Okay, so sama-sama tayo Monday to Friday.
16:36 Kasama natin si Diane Carrere, Phoebe Fee, De Los Santos and Audrey Coriceta.
16:41 Dito lang sa Rise and Shine Pilipinas sa PTV.
16:45 Ang ganda sa boss.
16:47 Ma'am Pinky, baka may maalala kayo na voice niya before.
16:50 Ang tagal na nun. Ano ba 'yon?
Ha?
16:58 ASEAN!
17:00 Ano 'yon?
17:01 ASEAN. Oh my God.
17:02 Bilang ASEAN 'yon?
17:03 No, kasi 'yung mga bino-voices ko for ASEAN are basically documentaries.
17:08 So, medyo mahaba siya and of course, iba 'yung delivery nun.
17:23 Because of the quality of my voice.
17:26 Well, happy 50 years po sa ate.
17:28 Happy 50 years.
17:29 Happy anniversary and more power to PTV.
17:31 More power, yeah.
17:42 Thank you very much.
17:43 Thank you po sa inyong.
