00:00 You said you wanted to be a hero.
00:02 Wish I hadn't.
00:07 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're remaking the past and diving deep into a fantasy that is anything
00:13 but final as we look at things you need to know about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
00:18 A full RPG.
00:26 Ready to fire, sir.
00:28 Welcome to the New World Order.
00:31 Fire!
00:35 Remaking one of the most beloved entries and one of the longest-running franchises in gaming is no easy task.
00:42 But Square mostly managed the impossible with the long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 remake in 2020.
00:48 Even though the title and its many changes to the familiar story and formula were well-received,
00:54 many were disappointed with the game's length as well as how much of the iconic story the game managed to cover.
01:00 With Rebirth, not only will the game cover much more of the story fans know and love, but the world itself has been
01:07 significantly open for players to explore, and the developers are estimating the game will take on average
01:12 anywhere between 30 to 100 hours to complete, depending on how much of the game's content they immerse themselves in.
01:20 You'll absolutely be getting your time and money's worth out of the second chapter of the remake saga.
01:25 Is it you, you, or is it the pooch?
01:28 I'm just messing with you. That bear is our man.
01:32 Getting around.
01:34 It's on the side. Need some choco-boes to cross the swamp.
01:37 I'm sorry, Pops, but you're out of luck.
01:40 Pops.
01:42 With remake mostly taking place within the Midgar city limits,
01:45 there wasn't really much need for transport around the various neighboring areas besides fast travel.
01:51 But with Rebirth featuring a massive open world to explore, Cloud and company are upgrading their modes of transport.
01:57 With Cloud venturing out into the open world, players will finally get to catch and ride their own choco-boe,
02:03 which can be called at any time during your explorations with the push of a button.
02:07 Different choco-boes also have different abilities, as some can fly, or at least follow a style,
02:13 while others are able to climb sheer cliffs to access out-of-reach areas.
02:18 We've also seen numerous other modes of transport, including Cloud rolling past the haters on a Segway,
02:24 and even a massive six-wheeled off-road vehicle.
02:27 [Squeal]
02:29 Aww, isn't he just the cutest?
02:31 Transmutations. In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, most things the players would collect would be either useful items, new materia, or equipment.
02:41 With Rebirth, not only will players be collecting much of the same as in Remake,
02:45 they'll also be collecting new crafting items, which can be used in the game's new item transmuter system,
02:51 where you can gain new items such as better armor, weapons, and accessories.
02:55 The more items you craft, the higher your craftsmanship rank increases, allowing you to create more powerful items and formulas.
03:02 While this new feature will most likely be entirely optional, if other entries such as Final Fantasy 16 are any indication,
03:09 crafting and transmuting new items will most likely lead to some of the most powerful weapons and armor in the game,
03:15 so your mileage may vary depending on how committed you are to the new systems.
03:20 Expanded Roster.
03:22 "Think you can find him?"
03:24 "Oh, Sephiroth, you say?"
03:28 Like most Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy 7 has quite the roster of memorable and playable characters,
03:35 but in Remake, this list was dwindled down to just four; Cloud, Barret, Aerith, and Tifa,
03:42 with Yuffie playable in a later released DLC.
03:45 With Rebirth, however, the roster has grown to include many fan favorites,
03:49 such as finally being able to take control of Red XIII, Kate Sith, Sephiroth, and surprisingly, Zac Faire.
03:57 While some characters have been featured in recent trailers, such as Cid and Vincent,
04:01 it's currently unknown if they will be playable in any capacity.
04:05 But creative director Tetsuya Nomura has promised that characters that appear in Rebirth but aren't playable
04:11 will be official party members in the trilogy's inevitable third entry.
04:16 "Aerith, is there anything I can do for you? I want to help."
04:20 Minigame Madness.
04:22 "Look! Look!"
04:25 The Final Fantasy series has had no shortage of minigames to distract the player from saving the world,
04:30 and while the options might not have been as numerous in Final Fantasy 7 Remake,
04:34 with Rebirth, players will find plenty to keep them busy.
04:38 Beyond the numerous games and attractions at the Gold Saucer,
04:42 players will be able to collect sheets of piano music and even get the chance to play for themselves.
04:47 There's a new strategic card game sweeping Midgar called Queen's Blood,
04:50 and even a game called Moogle Mischief that sees Cloud chasing down numerous Moogle kids.
04:56 This is in addition to games fans of the original have come to expect,
05:00 such as Chocobo excavation sites, combat challenges, and new Remna Wave towers
05:04 which will help clear some of the fog on the overworld map and allow for easier exploration.
05:10 Saving Gaia will have to wait just a little bit longer.
05:13 "When fate sets us a challenge, we must rise to meet it."
05:17 Part 2.
05:18 "The past is forever, but the future, even if it has been written, can be changed.
05:25 So focus on the future, not the past."
05:28 Final Fantasy VII Remake might have only covered the original game's story
05:32 up to the collapse of the Sector 7 plate and the group's eventual escape from Midgar,
05:36 but in Rebirth, the sequel will cover much more of the established narrative
05:41 leading up to the moment that still breaks gamers' hearts almost three decades on.
05:46 Given the changes to the well-known story of the original,
05:49 players can expect similar deviations from the established canon.
05:52 While the developer wants Rebirth to be welcoming to newcomers as well as returning fans,
05:57 they do still recommend playing through Remake first to fully appreciate the story,
06:02 although they will be including a "Story So Far" section for those taking their first steps into Midgar.
06:08 Sadly, those who have played through Remake won't be able to transfer their save,
06:12 although Tetsuya Nomura has promised specific rewards for those who have Remake save files.
06:18 "Do not be deceived. You know the truth. Trust in me."
06:24 Combat Upgrades.
06:26 [Music]
06:33 Final Fantasy VII Remake managed to perfectly blend elements of the traditional turn-based combat
06:39 the original entry was known for with the more modern, real-time, action-heavy gameplay
06:43 modern audiences are more familiar with.
06:46 And with Rebirth, although the core systems of active and classic battle modes remain relatively unchanged
06:52 (though Fixed One ain't broken), there have been smaller but meaningful tweaks.
06:56 The biggest new addition is Synergy Moves,
06:59 which ties into the narrative of the characters bonding and becoming more connected.
07:04 Synergy attacks act as a secondary limit break,
07:07 allowing two characters to build up a gauge that allows them to unleash a new joint special attack
07:12 that can deal massive damage.
07:14 The developers described this new system as a way to encourage players to constantly switch characters
07:19 to fill these gauges quicker and unlock more abilities for players to strategically use in battle.
07:25 "Take it from here."
07:28 "Ahh!"
07:32 Oh, the places you'll go.
07:34 "Down here, though, we know when to turn a blind eye."
07:40 "Consider our lips sealed."
07:43 Many fans were surprised that Final Fantasy VII Remake only covered the opening hours
07:47 of the Midgar section of the original game.
07:50 And while the developers did manage to expand these sections and flesh out the areas and characters,
07:55 there was very little room for true exploration.
07:58 However, that's all changing with Rebirth,
08:01 as not only will players have a large semi-open world to explore,
08:05 but they'll also be able to visit fan-favorite locations such as the Gold Saucer,
08:10 the Chocobo Farm, and Shinra Mansion.
08:13 In addition, major story areas have been expanded upon,
08:17 such as Cosmo Canyon, Nibelheim, and Junon.
08:20 Once forgettable locations such as Costa del Sol will also be getting a major facelift,
08:26 as we've seen Cloud in island attire puttering around on a Segway as the beach-loving locals look on.
08:32 "Wow! Just look at it all! It's so green!"
08:37 Zack's Resurrection.
08:39 "I'm feeling every single bullet."
08:42 Zack Fair was one of the most important characters players only briefly got to know in the original Final Fantasy VII,
08:49 and his backstory was further fleshed out in his own standalone game, Crisis Core.
08:54 But his ultimate fate has been drastically changed by the altered timeline of Remake.
08:59 Originally, Zack died in a brave last stand which led to Cloud inheriting his Buster Sword.
09:04 But after the defeat of the Whispers,
09:06 Zack survives this confrontation and is seen carrying a wounded Cloud into Midgard,
09:12 and eventually going to search for Aerith at the church.
09:15 How Zack's survival will play into the new timeline and what ramifications it will have remain to be seen,
09:21 but Square has promised Zack will have his own episode in Rebirth.
09:26 So hopefully, we will get to see much more of how Zack fits into this new version of Final Fantasy VII canon.
09:32 "Promise not to tell?"
09:35 "When she wakes up, a scary man is going to kill her!"
09:40 Whispers in Time and Space.
09:42 "Seven seconds till the end. Time enough for you, perhaps. But what will you do with it?"
09:53 It's safe to say Final Fantasy VII Remake wasn't quite the one-to-one remake fans were expecting,
09:59 with the story deviating wildly from the established canon numerous times throughout the game.
10:04 During these moments, creatures known as the Whispers were present to try to keep the narrative going in one direction
10:10 and maintain the characters' predetermined destinies.
10:13 Eventually, this leads to a wild confrontation with these Arbiters of Fate,
10:18 and their defeat leads to branching timelines, leaving the future uncertain even for diehard fans.
10:24 We already know almost for certain that the Whispers will return in Rebirth,
10:29 and although it was most likely their interference that led to the change of events in the first place,
10:34 they're unlikely to stand idly by and continue allowing our heroes to mess with time.
10:39 "Do you know that I killed her? So, who is she?"
