Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert Share Pressure with Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers' recent hiring of Jim Harbaugh as their new coach will put pressure on both him and quarterback Justin Herbert.

00:14 Now the pressure shifts a little bit because he's going to have the expectations to get

00:18 it done.

00:19 And he's going to have the expectations to get it done with the quarterback and Justin

00:23 Herbert.

00:24 Who do you think has more pressure on them Harbaugh or Herbert?

00:27 I think Herbert, I think because Harbaugh just won a national championship, he'll get

00:31 a bit of a grace period.

00:33 But I think with Herbert, he's already been seen as a very talented, prototypical style

00:39 quarterback.

00:40 And you just been waiting for him to take the next step and have postseason success.

00:44 So for me, now you got Jim Harbaugh, if you don't have Brandon Staley to be the, well,

00:48 it's his fault as to why the Chargers aren't successful.

00:51 So to me, it's definitely Herbert.

00:53 Well, look, in Harbaugh's case, I think you can make the argument he has more pressure

00:58 because everyone said the Chargers was a great job because of Herbert.

01:02 If let's say sanctions do come down on Michigan and we find out more about what they were

01:07 up to and he does not succeed at the NFL level simultaneously, there's going to be a lot

01:13 of attention on him more so than probably any head coach in the NFL outside of perhaps

01:19 Bill Belichick, depending on where he lands.

01:21 So I could see if Herbert statistically performs, but the team continues to fall short that

01:28 the finger of blame goes Harbaugh's way.

01:33 The one thing that they also have, well, I would say that Harbaugh has in his back pocket

01:38 is the fact that that's still the Chiefs division.

01:40 So it's just like, what is technically success for him?

01:44 If it's a winning record, then I would say, yeah, that's a pretty good season.

01:47 But chances are you're not going to win that division.

01:49 The Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes has been a champion game every year since he's been a starter.

01:53 So I feel like his expectations of what that team could do would be somewhat tempered.

01:58 But for Herbert, oh, no, bro, it's down.

02:01 Well, I think both Harbaugh and Herbert need to get to the playoffs at the very least.
