00:00 I think at 1.30.
00:02 Okay, so we have a few more minutes.
00:04 Okay.
00:05 The same recording started, are we live?
00:07 It says we're live.
00:08 It says we're live.
00:10 Yeah.
00:10 All right, so it looks like we're live.
00:14 And again, we are here with infamous Sylvia
00:19 on the streets in Chile, Atlanta
00:22 at the courthouse covering the YSL RICO trial day one.
00:28 It's crazy out there.
00:30 Yeah, it's a hot mess, a hot mess.
00:32 So this morning you were there
00:35 at eight o'clock in the morning,
00:37 was it crowded?
00:38 Were there a lot of people out there queuing and waiting?
00:40 A lot of news for people was here
00:43 and a couple of, you know, bystanders,
00:47 well, bystanders I said, whatever you call those.
00:51 Court watchers?
00:53 I don't know.
00:54 Observers, yeah.
00:55 Observers.
00:56 And Kevin Lyles is here.
00:58 Kevin Lyles is there today.
01:00 Now, Kevin Lyles, he did testify
01:02 when they were originally charged
01:05 and they were kind of going through the initial proceedings
01:08 a few months back, he did testify.
01:10 We have some footage of him.
01:12 We'll probably bring it up later on this evening
01:14 for our six o'clock update.
01:15 So everyone, we're gonna be updating again at six
01:17 of him the first time.
01:19 And he shed a tear as he was testifying
01:22 on behalf of the character of Young Thug.
01:24 Today he's there in the courtroom.
01:26 He's just observing at this point.
01:28 Yeah, and he made a statement for us when he came in.
01:31 He basically said that if it was,
01:35 if they were country singers and rock stars, rock singers,
01:39 we wouldn't be here.
01:40 So he basically said it's basically
01:42 a racist type of situation here.
01:46 Yeah, and you know, that is absolutely something
01:48 that you said, it was brought up during the motions period
01:52 that this whole issue of rap lyrics on trial,
01:56 lyrics on trial is really rap lyrics on trial
01:58 because this has not been done with other genres of music.
02:01 And that was actually brought up by one of the attorneys
02:04 in during the motion period a few weeks back, right?
02:07 Yeah, well, that was Weinstein mentioned that
02:11 in his argument, his motion.
02:13 Well, you know, regardless of whether it's rap lyrics
02:16 on trial, every lyric will now have precedent set
02:19 from this case.
02:20 At the end of the day, this case will set a precedent
02:23 that will affect every artist in every industry
02:25 and every genre for years to come.
02:29 So people really need to be paying attention.
02:31 So it started off this morning.
02:32 Now you mentioned it was a hot mess
02:34 and that there were things not in place.
02:36 What's going on in there?
02:38 It's more of like rulings that the judge hadn't made.
02:42 And it seems like the judge is backpedaling
02:44 on some of the stuff he said.
02:46 For example, he asked for everyone to give the information
02:51 like the slides and anything that you're gonna do
02:54 and open an argument, right?
02:56 And so the prosecution side did not fulfill
03:01 the judge's order requirement.
03:04 And so it seems like the judge is still giving them
03:07 another chance to get it right.
03:09 So they started submitting slides and incorrect information,
03:14 not just errors, like spelling errors and things like that,
03:18 but they have like wrong, blatant wrong,
03:24 cases information, you know, like a charge,
03:28 being charged to somebody else and things like that.
03:31 So a lot of things that are not done right, correct.
03:33 So the prosecution's materials and their evidence
03:37 that they're supposed to be submitting is not prepared.
03:40 Absolutely not.
03:41 Even the witness stand still has some issues.
03:44 The witness list, not stand, witness list.
03:47 And at this point, you said there's over 200 witnesses.
03:49 It started off with about 700 that they were looking to call.
03:52 They forced them to whittle it down to under 200.
03:55 Is that the case?
03:56 No, I think it's 400, if I'm not mistaken,
03:58 from the last time I've heard someone talking about it
04:01 inside the court today.
04:02 I think it's about 400, but don't quote me.
04:05 Right, at this point, basically there's hundreds
04:07 of witnesses that are being called.
04:10 The judge has been trying to get the prosecution,
04:13 the state prosecution, to actually whittle
04:15 these witnesses down because it's just too many witnesses
04:18 for the purposes of this trial.
04:20 That's already gonna take, what are they saying,
04:21 four to five months, right?
04:23 Definitely.
04:24 Okay, so right now, it's day one.
04:27 People are still a little messy on the prosecution side.
04:30 How's the defense looking?
04:31 How is Thug?
04:32 Was he there?
04:34 How did he look?
04:35 How did the other co-defendants look?
04:37 He looked pretty well, but when the defense,
04:39 I mean, this prosecutor started,
04:41 'cause they referred them as a pack of wolves,
04:44 and Thug is the wolf leader of the pack.
04:48 So his face was really stone cold,
04:51 and he was like, you could tell he didn't appreciate
04:54 that comment about him being the leader of the wolf pack.
04:58 So this was in the opening statements that they made?
05:03 Yes.
05:03 They referred to Thug and the YSL,
05:06 his co-defendants, as a pack of wolves and a wolf pack.
05:09 Yeah, but in her opening opening,
05:12 she mentioned something about the jungle.
05:15 The jungle?
05:16 The jungle, yes.
05:18 It was kind of crazy.
05:19 I'm like, the jungle, what?
05:21 Sound a little racy, a little racist, I read.
05:24 Very racist, yes.
05:25 (laughs)
05:27 You know, this, it reminds me of the Central Park case,
05:30 if people remember back in the '90s or early '80s,
05:33 the '90s, '80s or whatever, Central Park case,
05:35 they referred to those young men as a pack of wolves.
05:38 As a matter of fact, Donald Trump, I think,
05:39 was the one that stated, that called them,
05:42 or was it, no, it was Hillary Clinton
05:44 who called them a wolf pack.
05:46 Yeah, wolf pack.
05:47 Uh-huh, uh-huh.
05:48 So, she got up, and this was the prosecution attorney,
05:52 what's her name?
05:54 Andrea Love.
05:56 Andrea Love, and she was the first one
05:58 to open up for the prosecution this morning?
06:01 Yeah, yeah, she's the one who's doing opening arguments
06:03 for the prosecution.
06:04 Okay, so she got up and pretty much stated the case,
06:07 and what was the general gist of what she was saying?
06:10 Basically, that a lot of the crimes
06:13 that was done in the community is basically
06:17 because the leader is the one that told them to do it,
06:21 type of thing, and also that,
06:24 she started putting on cases
06:28 that were not part of it right now,
06:31 'cause you know a lot, there was 28 defendants originally,
06:34 and it's only down to six, so she was referring
06:37 to some of the other cases that occurred,
06:41 so she mentions some of those that was gonna be proven
06:44 by the evidence that she's gonna produce.
06:47 Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, so there were 28 defendants,
06:50 it's down to six, let's talk about the six.
06:53 Of course, we have Jeffrey Williams, aka Young Thug.
06:57 He is the reason why everybody's paying attention
06:59 to this case, because he is the head of YSL,
07:03 the record label, he says, the prosecution is saying,
07:06 it's a gang enterprise, a criminal enterprise,
07:09 and that's what they're gonna be looking at.
07:12 They mentioned that it was originally called The Rock,
07:15 it was a rock group, it was rock residents of Cleveland,
07:20 something like that.
07:24 Cleveland Ave, something like that, okay.
07:27 Something like that.
07:28 Okay, so this question of whether it is YSL,
07:32 the record label, slash, you know,
07:34 collective versus YSL, the criminal enterprise,
07:39 was presented initially, and we have,
07:41 so we have Young Thug, and he's allegedly the leader of it,
07:45 and I know that they're looking to present
07:47 a lot of lyrical evidence to talk about him,
07:50 where he says that he's the head honcho,
07:52 where he's talking about being the leader,
07:54 and that those lyrics, we have some of those lyrics,
07:56 and we'll present them this evening,
07:58 some of those lyrics that they're looking to use
08:01 to incriminate him as the leader of this criminal enterprise.
08:04 Now, who else do we have?
08:05 We have Rod, Rodril, Ryan, I call him Rod, Ron,
08:12 'cause I can't say his full name,
08:13 Rodril, Ryan, he's the youngest of the crew.
08:17 He's 19 years old, and he's,
08:19 he, his case is being looked at in appeals court,
08:24 and they have a ruling where they're going to look over,
08:29 'cause it looks like his case is gonna be overturned,
08:31 because one of the witnesses came up and said
08:34 that he was not part of it,
08:35 he was inside the house, or something like that.
08:37 So, on February 2025, that case,
08:41 most likely it's probably gonna be overturned.
08:44 - Okay, so whatever it's ruled for now,
08:46 whatever the ruling is from this case,
08:48 he's got something separately going on
08:50 that's saying that he wasn't even there,
08:52 and that's gonna be argued in February 2025.
08:55 - Yeah, but the thing is,
08:57 this case includes that conviction.
09:00 - Uh-huh, okay, so this, what happens here
09:03 will impact that 2025 case, okay, okay.
09:07 So we got Rod, Ryan, who else do we have?
09:10 - We got Shannon Stilwell.
09:15 - Shannon Stilwell.
09:16 And what's his story?
09:19 - He's charged with murders.
09:22 I think it was two murders.
09:24 - Okay, so they've got him,
09:26 looking to charge him with murders,
09:28 and he's allegedly also a member of YSL,
09:33 the street gang, et cetera.
09:34 - Supposedly, he's like a top commander type of person
09:40 in the YSL.
09:41 And then the other one is Mr. Nickel.
09:46 I forgot his first name, Quadavious.
09:50 It's hard to say some of the people's names,
09:52 but I think it's--
09:53 - Quantavious, is that Quantavious?
09:55 - Nickels.
09:56 - Yes.
09:57 - And he's charged with murder as well.
10:01 He and Shannon was in the car together,
10:04 and they have some witnesses saying
10:07 that he was part of the actual shooting
10:10 or something like that.
10:11 I don't know the facts on that one.
10:13 - Okay, so we've got both Shannon and Quantavious together
10:17 in some sort of incident in a car
10:19 where there was a shooting,
10:20 and that's why they're here,
10:21 and being charged with murder.
10:23 - They have Mr. Huey.
10:26 You have Mr. Huey.
10:27 And he's charged with a lot of thefts
10:31 and a lot of criminal activity.
10:36 - Okay.
10:38 So they have Huey, and he's charged with criminal theft
10:41 and no murder though.
10:44 - No, I don't think he has murder.
10:47 - What about--
10:48 - And then you have Mr. Kendricks.
10:50 - Kendricks.
10:51 - Yeah, Gotti.
10:51 Gotti basically has a case that he was serving
10:57 sentence for, and that was brought back in there too.
11:01 I think his has a murder as well.
11:04 - Okay.
11:05 - Three murders they're speaking about.
11:08 - Uh-huh.
11:09 So we did Shannon, Quantavious, Huey, Kendricks,
11:12 Rod and Ryan.
11:14 Okay, and then of course Thug.
11:16 And what is he charged with?
11:17 He's charged with running the whole thing.
11:19 - Yes.
11:20 He is not charged with any murder,
11:21 but he's the head of the racketeering group, the RICO.
11:26 - Racketeering, okay, got it.
11:30 All right.
11:31 So they're all sitting there.
11:33 Are they wearing their orange?
11:34 Everybody's wearing orange jumpsuits.
11:36 What are they?
11:37 - No, no, no.
11:38 They're just in regular clothing, outside clothing, suit.
11:41 Jeffrey's wearing a black suit with a white shirt.
11:46 And the others, I didn't get a chance.
11:48 Most of them have on black.
11:50 - Okay, okay.
11:52 And so Jeffrey's got how many attorneys?
11:55 - He has a total of, well, two attorneys,
11:59 but you got other, you got the, like an observer attorney,
12:04 and then another young lady.
12:05 So they have four at his table.
12:07 - Okay.
12:08 And all of them had their attorneys with them.
12:10 So all of these six gentlemen are sitting
12:12 with their attorneys with them,
12:13 and they're gonna be tried together.
12:16 - Yeah, everyone has more than one attorney
12:19 with the exception of Little Rod.
12:21 He has only one attorney, that's Miss D. William.
12:25 - Now I'm told that in the,
12:27 that besides Kevin Liles being there,
12:29 that Mariah the scientist is also there,
12:31 his young Thug girlfriend?
12:33 - Mariah, yes, she's here, she's here.
12:36 - Okay.
12:37 Who else is, did you spot?
12:39 - The family members, his dad.
12:41 I mean, Jeffrey's whole family is upstairs.
12:44 They only allow one person to be in there.
12:46 Mariah is the one that's downstairs with the rest of us.
12:49 His sister, his, I mean, all his whole family's there.
12:53 - Okay.
12:54 - And Mr. Kendrick, his mother's here.
12:59 I think she's the only one here representing him.
13:02 I haven't been upstairs,
13:03 so I don't know if anyone else is here.
13:05 Little Rod has, I think his father and his girlfriend
13:10 is here, and let's see, Huey,
13:14 I haven't seen anybody for Mr. Huey,
13:16 and Mr. Stilwell has his girlfriend,
13:21 but she cannot be in the courtroom
13:25 because she is called as a witness.
13:28 - Okay.
13:29 - You know, from the state side,
13:30 so she was in the courtroom,
13:31 but they have asked her to leave the courtroom.
13:35 Her and then someone else, they had them to leave
13:38 because they cannot be there during the opening argument
13:42 and some of the other, you know,
13:44 witnesses and things like that.
13:45 - Okay, what are we expecting to see this afternoon?
13:47 So this morning, it was the opening statement
13:50 from the attorney for the prosecution.
13:54 Tell me her name again, I'm sorry.
13:55 What did you say her name was again?
13:57 - Adrienne Love.
13:58 - Adrienne Love.
13:59 - Here's what's happening.
14:00 She was doing opening argument
14:02 and there is a motion submitted by Mr. Steele
14:05 and a motion basically for a mistrial
14:09 because some things that the judge ordered
14:11 has not been fulfilled.
14:12 So therefore, he asked for a mistrial,
14:14 but then the judge shot that down,
14:16 basically that he wants the trial to continue.
14:21 - Okay, so basically-
14:22 - But then that's, huh?
14:23 - And that's, okay, go ahead, what were you saying?
14:25 - And then that's when the other attorney
14:28 started seeing some things that were incorrect
14:32 in the footage that she was submitted to her presentation.
14:36 So they put motions in for that too.
14:38 So the judge had to rule and then came to a point
14:41 where it got so messy that the judge took a break
14:46 for her to send information over to them
14:49 because they claimed that she has not sent
14:51 the documents over to them.
14:54 - To the defense attorneys so that they can review them.
14:58 - Yes, and they didn't have a chance to review them.
15:01 They said they only got four pictures from her,
15:03 but in fact, she had at least 20 something slides.
15:08 No, she had more than 20 because they mentioned up to 50,
15:11 55, 58 or something like that.
15:14 So it's a really big mess.
15:17 - So really no progress on the actual opening statements,
15:20 really just a whole lot of, you know,
15:22 she started talking and then it was,
15:24 oh wait, that, you know, her stuff is not prepared.
15:27 We didn't get this.
15:28 This is wrong.
15:29 And then a whole lot of motions to mistrial
15:32 and saying that this is not ready.
15:34 - Basically that's what happened.
15:35 And then also you gotta remember each attorney
15:39 is going to get an hour to do opening arguments.
15:42 That's six hours that we're gonna need for them.
15:45 So most likely the opening argument
15:48 probably will continue to tomorrow
15:50 unless the judge go overtime.
15:52 - And her opening arguments,
15:53 was she allowed to finish them or was she interrupted?
15:55 Are we gonna see-
15:56 - She interrupted and then they're gonna come back
15:58 and finish hers.
15:59 And then he said, if she has things that are not correct,
16:02 he is gonna exclude her opening argument.
16:05 - Wow, okay.
16:07 All right, well,
16:07 hopefully we'll get a little bit more progress on this.
16:09 This is gonna be long and drawn out
16:11 because we got six defendants
16:15 with six different attorneys and six different stories
16:19 along with over 200 or maybe 400 witnesses in this case.
16:23 So we're in for a long trial.
16:26 - Long trial, long, long, long trial.
16:28 - I know you gotta go and maybe get a break
16:30 before you go back in the courtroom.
16:31 So we'll let you go.
16:32 - Yeah, I gotta go get something to eat.
16:34 But I wanna give the updates for-
16:37 - Okay, so we'll be back around six just right
16:39 after you get out for another quick update
16:41 and we'll go from there.
16:43 - Okay.
16:44 - All right, thanks Sylvia live from Atlanta, Georgia.
16:47 (Sylvia laughs)
16:48 - You're welcome, have a good one, bye.
16:50 - Bye.
