Alligator suspended in frozen pond

An alligator at The Swamp Park in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, is in 'brumation' mode due to freezing temperatures on Jan. 21.

00:00 And we have enough of a freeze here in eastern North Carolina and we've got

00:05 alligators here that we take care of in the sanctuary. These are all rescues and

00:10 their pond that they live in has frozen. They are in full brumation right now.

00:18 Alligators do not hibernate, they brumate and you can see they even have their

00:22 their eyelids closed as a means of protection. This one's really really good

00:28 to see on how they suspend themselves.

00:33 Just a really fantastic way for them to be able to survive. So you can see just

00:44 the nostrils sticking out of the water.
