00:00 The government has no money to help those farmers who are suffering from oversupply,

00:06 according to the Department of Agriculture.

00:08 But they will help in another way.

00:13 The cold is chilling, but farmers in Atok, Benguet are still farming.

00:21 It's better to do something than to destroy the 15 tons of cabbage.

00:27 If you don't harvest it, it will be destroyed.

00:31 So you have to harvest it, even if the vegetables are low.

00:34 They don't want to be like that, the Chinese cabbage that was not harvested.

00:38 It was not harvested last week because the buying price dropped to 3 to 4 pesos per kilo.

00:44 It was destroyed because it was over-ripe and there was no rain.

00:50 Why didn't the farmers harvest it right away?

00:52 Because the price is low, it's not for sale.

00:56 If they harvest it, it will be sold to the hawling.

01:01 According to the DA Cordillera, farmers are helping to sell vegetables quickly

01:06 and they are not being harassed by the trader.

01:09 We are still harvesting cabbages, including Chinese cabbages.

01:14 It's not an oversupply.

01:17 According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chulaurel,

01:20 30% or 3 in every 10 kilos of agricultural produce in the country is wasted.

01:27 Ayuda has no money left for farmers who are suffering from oversupply, according to the DA.

01:32 At the moment, our team at the DA is trying to figure out what we can give them.

01:38 As far as cash Ayuda is concerned, I'm actually not a believer in that.

01:44 I'd rather give farm implements like seeds, fertilizer, something else.

01:53 Among the plans to build, four cold storage facilities in FTI Taguig and other parts of Luzon.

02:00 It will be funded by 1 billion pesos and the target is to finish it by the middle of 2025

02:06 when it comes to the supply of rice and corn.

02:08 At the moment, almost half a million tons,

02:11 equivalent to more than 10 billion pesos, are wasted in post-harvest losses.

02:15 If this is reduced, it will also result in a 5% reduction in the price.

02:20 However, it is still far from 20 pesos per kilo.

02:24 It's an aspiration. It's a target.

02:26 Still, given the current realities?

02:29 We'll try our best.

02:34 It's better to have a goal so that everybody tries to achieve it as hard as possible.
