00:16 The movie, called The Story of Tarsians, weaves fiction and history together as it follows
00:22 the tale of three Perakians journeying into the then-Tar College.
00:27 The 90-minute film, directed by award-winning director Mark Lee Sittek, will also document
00:33 the history of the college and how it developed as one of the first institutions of higher
00:37 learning in the country.
00:39 It will explore the beginning of the establishment of the institution by going in-depth into
00:44 the emotions as well as the challenges and obstacles faced by its founders and stakeholders
00:49 who were involved in its early days.
00:52 Our UMT Alumni Council Chairman and Board of Governors member Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy said
00:58 a lot of old Tarsians, especially graduates of the 1970s and 1980s, had come back to share
01:03 their stories for the movie.
01:05 "So we have a lot of stories to tell, good stories, a lot of success stories, not only
01:15 in the development of education but also the participation of Tarsians in nation-building,
01:24 racial harmony in the campus, and all the hard work from all walks of life from Malaysians."
01:32 At the lensing ceremony to begin principal photography for the film on Monday, Tar-UMT,
01:39 President Professor Dr. Lee Sieway said pre-production for the movie began last July.
01:44 He said they hope to finish filming by the middle of the year, with the movie set to
01:48 premiere at the end of this year.
01:50 "There will be some fictional aspects, but at the same time, historical facts are going
01:56 to be fully maintained and we follow the historical line.
