Meteorologist Tony Laubach will be riding out the blizzard in northern Illinois. He reports from Rockford, IL to talk about how dramatic things will change come tomorrow afternoon.
Transcript
00:00 Greetings, folks. For the third time in about two weeks, I'm going to find myself in the
00:04 midst of one of Mother Nature's winter temper tantrums, but this third storm for me is promising
00:10 to be the biggest doozy of them all.
00:12 You and I were just talking earlier, Tony. You're going to be headed toward, more toward
00:16 western Illinois, around Rockford, Illinois.
00:18 And that is exactly what I did after my live hits from Baton Port, Iowa this morning. I
00:23 loaded up the car, grabbed my hot beverage, and crossed the Mississippi River into Illinois
00:27 where I made the three-hour tour along Interstates 80 and 39, en route to where I'll be calling
00:33 home over the next few days in Rockford, Illinois.
00:36 The drive up here was absolutely gorgeous. Barely any wind, plenty of sunshine, and dry
00:42 highways surrounded by the snow that fell earlier this week. This scene will look vastly
00:47 different and perhaps even nightmarish come this time tomorrow.
00:53 Conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly as we head into Friday morning. By the time
00:57 you wake up, you're going to be looking at heavy snow falling. Travel by that point will
01:01 be very, very difficult, and that will start to turn into impossible as we get later into
01:05 the afternoon on Friday, especially Friday evening into Friday night when the winds really
01:10 start to pick up.
01:11 Combined with that heavy snow, we're going to be looking at blizzard conditions likely
01:14 lingering into early Saturday morning with the snow likely ending then, but that blowing
01:20 snow will continue to be an issue throughout the day on Saturday, so expecting hazardous
01:23 travel to linger probably into Sunday before things are really safe to before you can get
01:28 out and travel.
01:29 I will be live on the AccuWeather Network throughout the day on Friday, giving updates
01:33 in the middle of the storm from here in Rockford, Illinois. Reporting for AccuWeather, I'm meteorologist
01:38 Tony Laubach.
